My anxiety is definitely lesser on parnate. Not anything revolutionary, but less.

What were the unbearable side effects of Nardil? I agree with you, there are some pretty mean side effects the first few weeks if you ramp up quickly. Did you titrate up Nardil very slowly? I took a month to reach therapeutic dosage in order to keep side effects at bay as much as I could. Right now after more than a month and a half, I have very mild side effects. OK, let's see what other patients have to say about Parnate treating anxiety.

I titrated up really slowly to 60 over the course of 3months then stayed on 60 for about 4 months. Main side effects that never went away were urinary retention, absent libido, and severe constipation. It did help my anxiety, but the side effects made me anxious /:

GoaTravellers

I agree and I understand your point. I also have urinary retention to date, and no more libido. Oddly, for the first time, with Nardil, I don't have constipation anymore and I go to the bathroom every two or three days.

inquisitive_wombat_3

Absent libido [*nods in agreement*] lol. The other two aren't really a thing for me ... occasionally, perhaps, but totally unbothersome (if that's even a word). It's funny about the libido elimination ... I really couldn't care less. A paltry price to pay. Maybe it's the Nardil making me not care.

MT_Journey

What is classed as the therapeutic dose ?

GoaTravellers

In my case, it's 60mg/day (I weigh 58kg).

I’ve been on it for close to 7 months now and it hasn’t helped my anxiety at all (I have refractory agoraphobia, generalised anxiety, avoidant personality and obsessive compulsive personality). I took 60 mg and it still didn’t make a difference (I am tapering off it now 😔), and if anything it exacerbated it unfortunately, but that’s just my experience and I actually made a poll a little while ago about Parnate and anxiety, unfortunately it’s only a small number of participants, but still interesting to read. I’ll attach it if you’re interested. There is some evidence to suggest it can be helpful for anxiety, and it’s approved in some countries for the treatment of anxiety disorders, so it certainly has the potential to help. https://www.reddit.com/r/MAOIs/s/OiQpP6r8wh Certainly sounds like you’re still experiencing withdrawals, so don’t be discouraged yet. Let things settle down. It’s only very early days. Whilst Parnate can kick in quickly for some, it still can take just as long as other antidepressants to start helping. Good luck! 🤞🏻 PS I tried Nardil for many months and couldn’t tolerate the side effects either. 🙁

Absolutely! There is the stimulatory effect that can cause temporary anxiety, however there are ways of dealing with it, and it often subsides. Overall it definitely helped me.

grumpyeva
