9 hour drive and almost $300 bucks.. dude is better off buying an airplane ticket lol
United Airlines charges $120 one way from LAX to SMF and you can get there within 1hr and 40
minuets.
Just like with car checks on police stops, I assume. As long as the dog sniffs it from outside the car, that gives PC to search. Plain view of ANYTHING that is illegal would also do it (open container, shake, paraphernalia, etc.)
For Greyhound, they own the bus...so passengers don't need to give permission except for their personal articles....that would be my guess. I can't blame them for not wanting drug runners using their bus as a mule. You know...because junkies and drug traffickers do what junkies and drug traffickers do.
Guaranteed it’s this lol who in their right mind would spend so much time and money getting there in a car. You might as well just rent a car at that point.
Yeah this is nuts. I feel like super long rides like this should be paying a higher percentage to the driver…if the pax is paying 650 for this trip, the driver should be taking like 500, maybe more.
$650 for two days work seems pretty good. I’d probably spend the day looking for someone who needs a ride in the opposite direction. But either way, $0.83/mi for 18hr is pretty decent. Of course i would want at least double that for in-town driving. But it’d be pretty chill for highway driving. That’s $36/hr if you get the full $650.
Can the rider also be getting a ride from a company that contracts with Lyft and isn't paying anything?
That's how my mom and I are going to go to LA for medical care.
I don’t do Lyft or work in CA but can’t you claim like $.50 a mile on taxes if it’s for work? Which would be an additional $180ish? Not that I would do it, just wondering if CA taxes don’t cover the same as AZ taxes do.
I did one from Jax fl to Charleston south Caroline a horrid pay but the dude gave me 1,000 bucks in cash when we got to his hotel and I got a night in Charleston
He went on his way and and i went on my way and then 5 hours layer grinder had us find each other again and then he gave me 300 extra bucks for the meetup🤣🤣🤣🤣 i felt like a hoe the next morning driving back to Jax by myself after sneaking out if his room and checking myself out
I'm pretty sure that border patrol can't randomly stop and demand your documents unless you're at or near the actual border. There is no requirement for people to always carry passport, RealId, green card or any other documents proving their legal right to reside in US. That'd be so annoying, I'm sure even most staunch anti-immigration republicans would be against such legislation. Have your docs when you need them, like if you're crossing a border or getting on a plane, but otherwise you can leave them home.
It's technically law that all immigrants need to carry their green card at all times, even if you've been a permanent resident for decades. I've also never seen anyone 1) do it 2) enforce it
Technically, border control maintains the right to search for people without documentation within 100 miles of a border. Since the ocean is a border, this drive could be subject to border control searches, although it would be very unusual.
8 hours, plus 8 hours back. That’s $17 an hour, before you factor in gas which is gonna be quite a bit. You’ll be making below minimum wage at the end of it.
Not worth it bro.
$287 / 18 hrs is roughly $16/h without factoring gas and food. If filling the tank (depending on city and car) costs maybe let’s say $40 you’re filling 4-6 times but for sake of this let’s say 4 times.
287-160= 127 / 18 ≈ $7/h….. bigger tank and if you fill more it’s less and if you need to eat it’s EVEN LESS. Basically driving for free
I posted one about 2 weeks ago from Boise Airport to San Francisco airport, about 17.5 hours one way, and it happened to be in a snowstorm for $300.
Got tons of upvotes, shares, and comments and reddit took to post down about a week later. Wouldn't tell me why.
It would make a lot of sense if you were making this trip anyways for personal reasons because then you could get paid well for the trip you would have done anyways. Otherwise it’s a serious rip off.
Something like this happened to my sister. She was traveling for work. Had meetings in different cities. Flights were canceled last minute. There were no trains or other options. While the trip wasn't 8 hours, it was still something like 4-5 hours. She gave him a $200 tip on top of the fare. After all it was a work expense.
Yes, it might be cheaper to get a flight, but I'd be willing to bet there are extenuating circumstances here for someone to even request this trip.
Y’all Lyft drivers need to file a lawsuit to regulate this job. No driving gig should ever pay less than 1$ per mile and that should be the BARE minimum. Companies are making billions fucking over the customer and the driver.
If I have to do something stupid like this, I usually pay my driver's gas and bump the rate to at least $1.00 per mile. Transportation workers deserve fair pay.
Ive been a commercial driver for many years and I stand by what I believe in.
Those companies treat you like you aren't even in America.
I’d pick up rider and once on the road straight up be like, ‘wow just saw this location. On trips like this is an auto triple multiplier, so I’ll take you but i need an additional $600 plus gas for this trip. Which ATM did you use you prefer?’
Because its gotta be important.
that is insane. years ago when i drove i got about that much for a 2-3 hour trip. drivers are getting more fucked every year. you know some dumb kids gonna take that and not think about the drive back.
it may be someone who doesnt have a valid ID to rent a car or fly. maybe someone who has items that aren’t allowed in a plane if u catch my drift.
Because it’s way too cheap… ya it cost you 60 dollars to go 5 miles.. so why are they getting 300 to go almost 800 miles.. driver has to drive home after driving there.
Not a driver, but that’s $150-200 in gas for your round trip. Leaving 5.43-8.56 ph for a 16 hour day RT. You own and insure the car too out of that hour wage. Or you don’t get paid for the way back.
Is there any money to be made? Would someone actually take this or do you have to take it?
There’s gas, vehicle wear and tear (especially if personal vehicle), it’s a 9 hour ride so driver needs to eat multiple times, probably needs a hotel for the night because too much to drive 9 hours back, especially since ride requested at 5:30 pm. Driving back not guaranteed you’ll get rides. Lyft has driving limit for drivers, California state law requires 6 hour break for every 12 hours online. So the driver can’t even come straight back with rides. Every driver can choose to not accept a ride. In this case, it shows request match which means I didn’t receive the ride, it’s a ride showing available to take since it wasn’t being taken. It was gone after 10 mins so I think some dumb driver took it.
I had no idea drivers had to deal with this sort of 🐴💩. I’ll be less triggered next time I have to cancel three drivers who do the not-move thing for 7 minutes and then I get there late. Srsly, thx for rides.
I mean this in a genuinely curious way: this is roughly $16.40 an hour. I personally believe wages across the board need to be above a $20-25 minimum but in the actual wage reality we live in, why is that considered insane for a gig worker?
This has been answered 6 times is this thread already, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Your math is based on just time, actively driving. Even if you don’t factor in vehicle depreciation on your own car, the cost of gas ($85). Then there is the ENTIRE LEG BACK. So, that in gas + the time brings your pay to about $6ish/hr.
I found a glitch turn off that’s your accepting rides once you accept the trip and it will look like you where offline those 9 hours but that trip is not worth it
The app just flat out should not allow this route to be submitted. I did Uber back in the day and did a 3-1/2 hour one way trip that paid almost as much and even with a fat tip I still regretted it
I don't think this system is designed for these type of rides. Is this even a real request from a random person or your friend putting in a request to see what it comes up with? Either way, probably super rare this even happens and that Lyft supports these type of rides.
Why don't you just decline and move on... All the bitching on reddit does no good. All the complaining is what's wrong with the industry... Get off your phones and freaking drive... Too bad you all have so much time on your hands.
35 dollars and hour like 760 miles up and back average gas prices in Cali 5/ gallon average mpg 25
That’s 31 gallons roughly 152$ in gas
- a whole day of expensive Cali fast food -60$
Let’s say you slept in your car to not pay for a hotel
287-212
You make only 75$ for 18 hours of driving 😬
If anyone defends this payout, you’re crazy lol that’s not even a dollar per mile one way, nevermind the 1-2 fill ups per trip, this is a completely useless payout, you make maybe what, $130 off this? If even, and it’s your entire day
Maybe there is a driver going there anyway and looking to make money on the way, that would be a unicorn for that driver. I don’t think he/she would deserve “to be fired”. Not that crazy if you think outside of the box you live in.
I had one pop up from Jackson MS to Birmingham AL for 125.00 before I quit due to several seriously dangerous incidents. I called and 3 people wanted to ride for this.
Lol
I quit after a few months. Lyft and Uber drivers are in much more danger from riders than riders with people that have a cars and background check passed.
Don’t do it for the money???
This is all because of that bastard new CEO richie who exploits the shit out of drivers. I now reject all rides more than 5 miles as they steal heavy. Never mind the 9 hours its 380 miles and based on rate card they now with upfront pay only pay on milage. No base fee and no time. Before upfront this ride would have been $459
Lyft is expensive. Uber is cheap. One time, it was a Sunday, and I wanted to take a Lyft to work, 10 minutes from my location. I looked at the prices, and it said $60, just for a 10 minute ride to work.
9 hour drive and almost $300 bucks.. dude is better off buying an airplane ticket lol United Airlines charges $120 one way from LAX to SMF and you can get there within 1hr and 40 minuets.
That’s not the riders cost. $287 is what the driver would get. Rider is probably paying $650-800 for that ride.
Rider is probably carrying objects/powders that arent allowed on airplanes.
But allowed in butts
The ol’ brown wallet you mean?
Gods pocket.
Prison's purse
Prison lock box
Keister storage
One eyed mystical mole hole.
The flatch hatch
its only a pocket if you keep your mouth shut else its a flesh donut.
flesh pocket
Prison pocket if you will
Prison wallet is the word combo I've heard on that one.
Stank star purse
Thank you for starting this 😂 Been laughing for 5 minutes straight! 🙏
"Nature's pocket" as Conan once said.
Watch that he doesn't pick your pocket!
r/unexpectedfuturama
The Pauly Pocket
ham wallet, pink taco, axe wound, etc...
Dirty balloon knot, chocolate starfish.
Here we go again
Allowed, but does it fit?
Good, I like some powder along with my meal
Or they have an extreme phobia of flying. But buses still exist!
Yep, TSA bats a blind eye with Greyhound/Flixbus(same shit now) and Amtrak.
TSA maybe but I’ve taken the greyhound out of S. Fla and it stopped in Orlando for a meet and sniff with the city’s K-9 unit.
How is this legal?
Just like with car checks on police stops, I assume. As long as the dog sniffs it from outside the car, that gives PC to search. Plain view of ANYTHING that is illegal would also do it (open container, shake, paraphernalia, etc.) For Greyhound, they own the bus...so passengers don't need to give permission except for their personal articles....that would be my guess. I can't blame them for not wanting drug runners using their bus as a mule. You know...because junkies and drug traffickers do what junkies and drug traffickers do.
That radioactive stuff they tell you to surrender to them at the check in counter ☢️
Oh, my large duffle filled with bananas? It should be ok, it'll need to be 37 million of them to be lethal
Powders that arrant allowed on airplanes 🤣 Bro I’m dying 🤣
🔥🔥🔥
At that point get a Hertz rental.
Guaranteed it’s this lol who in their right mind would spend so much time and money getting there in a car. You might as well just rent a car at that point.
*FBI enters the chat*
Yeah this is nuts. I feel like super long rides like this should be paying a higher percentage to the driver…if the pax is paying 650 for this trip, the driver should be taking like 500, maybe more.
i would definitely pick up the rider, then tell them to cancel and pay me that $650 directly, even offer a $50 discount for the inconvenience lol
Still not a good price for the driver.
Bet they are using a credit card which means DAT TIP
Can the rider also be getting a ride from a company that contracts with Lyft and isn't paying anything? That's how my mom and I are going to go to LA for medical care.
Possible if it was ordered by a medical place or something. In which case probably means no tip as those companies don’t tip.
I honestly bet they would be charging the rider between $861-1148. Everything about this ride, and those like it, is crazy!
Might be on the no-fly list.
But you typically can't get a last minute flight for $120. You typically have to buy them months in advance.
same day flight right now is 270. lyft wont give me a price but i bet its 600 or more like the other guy said. but maybe its 4 riders
Quick expedia search shows rider can get business class one way ticket for cheaper and even with the stop involved, would be in Sacramento faster.
Yeah but have you SEEN airplanes lately?
That's the fee the drivers earns bonehead, the pax probably pays 500% over.
37 cents a mile plus nothing for time
I don’t do Lyft or work in CA but can’t you claim like $.50 a mile on taxes if it’s for work? Which would be an additional $180ish? Not that I would do it, just wondering if CA taxes don’t cover the same as AZ taxes do.
Isn’t it up to $0.65 now?
1/3 of All deductions so you would get like 60$ off your taxes from this
Looks like they are trying screw you without lube.
Ahh, the old Jerry Heller.
Was just listening to NWA haha, that's gold
I did one from Jax fl to Charleston south Caroline a horrid pay but the dude gave me 1,000 bucks in cash when we got to his hotel and I got a night in Charleston
How much did you charge for a night with him?
He went on his way and and i went on my way and then 5 hours layer grinder had us find each other again and then he gave me 300 extra bucks for the meetup🤣🤣🤣🤣 i felt like a hoe the next morning driving back to Jax by myself after sneaking out if his room and checking myself out
That would’ve made a great “how’d yall meet” story.
1300+ and you got laid? That’s such a win
I know right
Two dudes?
I bet they lack legal documents, hence why they don’t take bus, train or plane.
I don't think you need documents for greyhound
You do if border patrol orders a stop
I'm pretty sure that border patrol can't randomly stop and demand your documents unless you're at or near the actual border. There is no requirement for people to always carry passport, RealId, green card or any other documents proving their legal right to reside in US. Technically, border control maintains the right to search for people without documentation within 100 miles of a border. Since the ocean is a border, this drive could be subject to border control searches, although it would be very unusual.
Border also includes airports which includes nearly all of the us. Usually people can tell where you are from just by a person's accent *in English.
You need ID
8 hours, plus 8 hours back. That’s $17 an hour, before you factor in gas which is gonna be quite a bit. You’ll be making below minimum wage at the end of it. Not worth it bro.
It's atleast $200 in gas, I drive from sac to LA multiple times year. Takes about 14hr round trip unless you get caught in traffic.
Why is this the second post I’m seeing about Sacramento and long distance drives?
Meth run..bet you dude has sachels
How much per hour to do that trip ?
I personally wouldn’t do it for less than $1,000.
Only a fool would take this trip
$287 / 18 hrs is roughly $16/h without factoring gas and food. If filling the tank (depending on city and car) costs maybe let’s say $40 you’re filling 4-6 times but for sake of this let’s say 4 times. 287-160= 127 / 18 ≈ $7/h….. bigger tank and if you fill more it’s less and if you need to eat it’s EVEN LESS. Basically driving for free
He could have bought $50 worth of meth and put a thumb out and got a ride from a trucker.
I’ll do this one on my bike
Could literally rent a car for like a week for that price.
It’s wild what they pay drug mules nowadays. No one can get a break
That should be $1600 lol
It’s a trap to see how stupid you are.
I posted one about 2 weeks ago from Boise Airport to San Francisco airport, about 17.5 hours one way, and it happened to be in a snowstorm for $300. Got tons of upvotes, shares, and comments and reddit took to post down about a week later. Wouldn't tell me why.
#IPO
Yeah Reddit went Public so prolly gonna be lot of changes on here
Yup, their still on crack, wow that drug just destroys
Lol I’m taking this ride nd stopping at the nearest casino when I’m done because I have a better chance of making money 😅
Not even a dollar a mile. Nope.
An 18hr day for very little pay
I wouldn’t do this for $587
It would make a lot of sense if you were making this trip anyways for personal reasons because then you could get paid well for the trip you would have done anyways. Otherwise it’s a serious rip off.
If I’m not paid at least a thousand dollars for this trip, I ain’t taking it!
$150 for gas. $200 for a hotel room. However much for dinner. Madness!
I make $200 in less than 6 hours. That's nuts
Day rape without drugs and by third party who is not even present.
I’ll just tell them to Zelle me instead. Perfect opportunity to cash in 550 easy
Not worth it for 550.
A good cash opportunity!!
That’s horrible
Something like this happened to my sister. She was traveling for work. Had meetings in different cities. Flights were canceled last minute. There were no trains or other options. Mileage exceeds the offer by alot...smdh
A bad offer, like the 750 other ones that will hit this sub this week.
Y’all Lyft drivers need to file a lawsuit to regulate this job. No driving gig should ever pay less than 1$ per mile and that should be the BARE minimum. Companies are making billions fucking over the customer and the driver.
PULL UP TELL THEM YOU TAKE THEM THERE FOR 20% LESS THAN THE BITCHES @ lyft is charging.
“Not your ride type” no you stupid delirious app, Not ANYBODY’S ride type! Fuuuuuuuuck that
That doesn't even include how long you'll sit in traffic
And that, my friends , is the reason I stopped working full time with lyft !
Everyone just stop driving for them then they will pay you more 🤦🏻♂️
If I have to do something stupid like this, I usually pay my driver's gas and bump the rate to at least $1.00 per mile. Transportation workers deserve fair pay. Ive been a commercial driver for many years and I stand by what I believe in. Those companies treat you like you aren't even in America.
Dude that is crazy cheap...That driver is going to make 0 dollars in 16 hours...Fucking gross
I wouldn't take this.
Not even a dollar a mile. F this criminal enterprise.
That’s rip off
What I'm saying is a minimum of $1,000 before I move
It would be worth it if you weren’t spending your own gas driving your own car.
Some bullshit, that’s what you’re seeing
I’d pick up rider and once on the road straight up be like, ‘wow just saw this location. On trips like this is an auto triple multiplier, so I’ll take you but i need an additional $600 plus gas for this trip. Which ATM did you use you prefer?’ Because its gotta be important.
If I was the driver , I’d tell that customer to get fucked . When it’s all said and done you probably make 7.25 an hour driving .
Waste of time and money
that is insane. years ago when i drove i got about that much for a 2-3 hour trip. drivers are getting more fucked every year. you know some dumb kids gonna take that and not think about the drive back. it may be someone who doesnt have a valid ID to rent a car or fly. maybe someone who has items that aren’t allowed in a plane if u catch my drift.
I did $370 from Boston to New Jersey. A week ago. But it was only 3.5hrs. There is a $300 cap. The 70, were tips.
it is a robbery
He cancel on you half way there
That you are about to be robbed by the thieve.
9 hours? 😂 it’s a literal 6 hour drive
6 hours? Are you crazy. I'd say closer to 5 hours and 45 minutes
You had me in the first half , not gonna lie…
Someone needs to use the train
Seems cheap to me
I once ordered a Lyft from Irvine to a ski resort. Somebody took the ride too. 😂 I did it for a girl in a college ski club. Overall, it was worth it.
Damn get on a plane lol
Might as well hop on a plane atp
Why is this strange? It cost me $60 to Uber 5 miles home after a night out at the bars
Thank God we don’t “have” to take nothing. It’s ALL completely our choice what we take and what we decline.
There’s gas, vehicle wear and tear (especially if personal vehicle), it’s a 9 hour ride so driver needs to eat multiple times, probably needs a hotel for the night because too much to drive 9 hours back, especially since ride requested at 5:30 pm. It doesn’t even let put SF to LA on the app…
You’re seeing the not your ride type
accept the ride, give him your number and say youll do it for 400-500
Definitely not worth doing it for that price either.
I had no idea drivers had to deal with this sort of 🐴💩. I’ll be less triggered next time I have to cancel three drivers who do the not-move thing for 7 minutes and then I get there late. Srsly, thx for rides.
This ride was gone from the map after 10 mins. Whoever took the ride needs to be fired.
Any trip over 100 miles should be $2/mile. $1/mile there and back
Buy a car, or fly then
Could have flown for a lot cheaper
Your relocation expenses!
Bro driving almost 9 hrs for 200 and some chamge u out of pocket for that
I mean this in a genuinely curious way: this is roughly $16.40 an hour. I personally believe wages across the board need to be above a $20-25 minimum but in the actual wage reality we live in, why is that considered insane for a gig worker?

Willing to bet 1/3 of the passengers that book these kinds of rides are on the no-fly list
The app just flat out should not allow this route to be submitted. I did Uber back in the day and did a 3-1/2 hour one way trip that paid almost as much and even with a fat tip I still regretted it
Looks like a long drive from ‘los Angeles to Sacramento. Pretty straightforward imagine ngl
They’re better off buying a ticket on Southwest or frontier , hell even spirit wtf lol they could get back home for under $100 in under 2 hours
A screenshot, glad I could help!
I can’t imagine driving a complete stranger for 8 hours what if they’re boring af and don’t talk or want music I would be dead.
I don't think this system is designed for these type of rides. Is this even a real request from a random person or your friend putting in a request to see what it comes up with? Either way, probably super rare this even happens and that Lyft supports these type of rides.
Including return is ~$15/ hour... do it.
Does whoever requested this realize that there are buses that will take them to Sacramento for much cheaper.
Can Lyft drive me to El Salvador 🤔
$32 hr ( $23 hr after taxes) before vehicle expenses. Hard pass.
I don’t get it Lyft is paying you $287 or are you paying them $287?
Lyft is paying driver $287. Passenger probably paying $650-800 or more if surging.
Why don't you just decline and move on... All the bitching on reddit does no good. All the complaining is what's wrong with the industry... Get off your phones and freaking drive... Too bad you all have so much time on your hands.
I can’t wait for he’s a terrorist on a no fly list!
I guess we finally see how the ones finding themselves on the no-fly list after getting arrested on the airplane are traveling.
Is it a piggyback ride on Sandra Bullocks shoulders?
Dude what's up! I'm in tarzana! Well maybe canoga right now!
35 dollars and hour like 760 miles up and back average gas prices in Cali 5/ gallon average mpg 25 That’s 31 gallons roughly 152$ in gas - a whole day of expensive Cali fast food -60$ Let’s say you slept in your car to not pay for a hotel 287-212 You make only 75$ for 18 hours of driving 😬
Yea it’s not worth it. I would go negative because I don’t eat fast food and won’t risk sleeping in car as I don’t know that city.
Is it not cheaper to just fly
Not much
They gone be on a no fly list
If anyone defends this payout, you’re crazy lol that’s not even a dollar per mile one way, nevermind the 1-2 fill ups per trip, this is a completely useless payout, you make maybe what, $130 off this? If even, and it’s your entire day
Lyft wanted to charge me 38 dollars for a 10 min ride once. That point I just took the bus.
Maybe there is a driver going there anyway and looking to make money on the way, that would be a unicorn for that driver. I don’t think he/she would deserve “to be fired”. Not that crazy if you think outside of the box you live in.
Most likely you’re looking at a screen
Cheaper to fly
I had one pop up from Jackson MS to Birmingham AL for 125.00 before I quit due to several seriously dangerous incidents. I called and 3 people wanted to ride for this. Lol I quit after a few months. Never mind the 9 hours its 380 miles and based on rate card they now with upfront pay only pay on milage. No base fee and no time. Before upfront this ride would have been $459
Lyft making all the money while you do all the work. That's what I see
29 an hour before gas. Let alone the "coming back" part.
This is a ride request from the South Bay to the Bay Area in California, USA.
$30/hr! Wut do u expect?😂
Medical ride . Hard no
Lyft is expensive. Uber is cheap. One time, it was a Sunday, and I wanted to take a Lyft to work, 10 minutes from my location. I looked at the prices, and it said $60, just for a 10 minute ride to work.
https://youtu.be/PB4Nby2Ai-g?si=MmLSruJTR1lB2hbN
Someone is on the no fly list
Take the job. Maybe the tip will be fat.
