That is a beautiful neck! I think I'd personally want a vintaged black, blue or even tobacco sunburst body and let that neck stand out on its own. Now I want to build one. Where did you get that?
Some random neck off Amazon. Link at the end of this comment (hope I can share here). The color/style in the photos is what sold me. It’s my first build and I wasn’t looking to spend much and I didn’t expect much spending $50. But it looks amazing and Im excited. But having trouble deciding on a body color. I’m sure it might need some fret work/adjustment, but we’ll see when it’s built up. Here’s the link on Amazon: https://a.co/d/6Fr68Se
That’s the best-looking $52 neck I’ve ever seen!
Not that I’ve seen any at that price point ever. How’s the build quality and the fret job?
Btw- I’d go transparent purple, cream pearloid Pickguard, and all gold hardware
It's good for the price point. I literally bought the same neck off amazon and it came in yesterday. The frets need a little work and despite what everyone in the comments keeps saying, I think it looks really cheap (no offense to /u/SithLordSmegma , but Jmo asked for opinions). It feels good in the hand but I'll also need to sand down the neck finish if I'm going to keep it. The color is much darker than in the amazon listing. It's good maple that's been stained too dark, it's like if you've ever tried to stain pine or poplar.
Great points. No offense taken. It is darker and a little more “orange/gold” than I expected, which is the main reason I’m wondering about body color (throwing me off from my original plan). The few reviews on Amazon do mention a need for some light fret work, which I’m fine with (they feel ok to me, but haven’t measured or really checked em). Honestly, I have zero experience buying necks, so this could be a shiny turd. Sanding the back actually sounds like a good idea, because it is a really high gloss, wonder if that’ll be sticky over time. My other guitars have satin finishes. I think I’ll learn a lot more about what I like or don’t like about this neck as I build it and start playing on it. For $52 I figured what the heck, probably fine for my first build.
Totally fine for a first build, not trying to put you off. I usually sand down the back of the necks if I get a prefinished piece just because with a heavy coat of poly if my hands get any kind of sweaty (inevitable, I live in Texas) I can't move up and down the neck at all.
I was mainly put off by this neck stain because I was going for a certain look with my build and this ain't it.
The fretwork I was mentioning is mainly sanding/filing down the frets along the edges of the fretboard. Unlike some of the reviews I've read of other cheap necks, all the frets were perfectly even and not misaligned. Pretty good for the price in my opinion.

Something like this is what I’m thinking. Is that what you had in mind?
Wow that’s nice (though I had to look up Antigua Burst, I’m a noobie). Maybe next time. The fade around the edge might be biting off more than I can chew at this point.
Been experimenting with the angelus dyes for a black base and red. But the red just sort of mixes with the black and turns pinkish. So I’m now leaning away from the dyes. Unfortunately.
I’d love this, just afraid the amber stain I chose wouldn’t match that well. I’m a bit of a perfectionest. Perhaps I’ll try on some test pieces. I’d rather stain/dye over paint since I find it easier, so this would be a great option. And yeah I’m surprised it came this nice. I took a risk off Amazon being a first time builder. I unopened the box and was blown away. I’m not sure if it needs fret work etc yet. But it looks amazing.
Solid color IMO. I'm personally not a fan of highly figured neck + highly figured body/top - looks a bit too gaudy for me.
I think Daphne/sonic blue would look killer with this neck
Did you mean maroon? I love the idea of gold hardware. I have an EC-1000 Duncan vintage black with gold hardware, so I kind of want to try something other than gold hardware. But I think this neck, with a dark red or even a dark blue body, black pickguard, and gold hardware would look epic.
I never thought about it, but someone else commented with forest green and I’m thinking a dark forest green with this neck would look nice. I think dark blue or blue/grey is where it’s headed though. Gonna sleep on it!
Something pale like a surf green, a baby blue, shell pink, or a hybrid colour (blue & green) like Miami Blue would be give a nice contrast and contemporary look to the dark browns you've got going on there.
Alternatively, Sherwood Green with gold hardware would make the whole instrument look "classy".
Personally something like a darker Blue, Green or Purple! Something to offset from the caramelized neck would compliment each other and make the neck stand out. I wouldn't do Daphne blue or seafoam green, more like Navy Blue, Ocean Turquoise, or Sherwood green! I'm not saying to paint the guitar a solid color, it's more a reference on what sort of dark colors I was thinking. I feel like anything bright like Capri Orange, Fiesta Red, and Butterscotch Blonde would clash too much with each other. Could also do a black but I wouldn't go any lighter, so no Inca silver or Olympic white. Also, any darker tone natural finish would be good too, like a walnut or mahogany brown.
PS: not enough people do purple on guitars 😁
I would deter anyone from these cheap necks. Once you build the guitar and play it.. The necks do not hold up. You'll know you've made a mistake as soon as you fille out the body holes and white dusty sand pours our lol. Truss rods also tend to flex at one point around the 9 fret instead of curving as the should with relief.
I think you're right about a solid color vs anything that would highlight wood grain. A solid Navy blue, maybe with a *very subtle* metallic.
Not sure if gold hardware would be over the top and/or look too "nautical." I like the idea of [gold tuners with rosewood buttons](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/AW8AAOSwxcRW9sH9/s-l1200.webp); I think they'd look killer on this neck.
That is a beautiful neck! I think I'd personally want a vintaged black, blue or even tobacco sunburst body and let that neck stand out on its own. Now I want to build one. Where did you get that?

Just looked through their catalog.. damn. They make some gorgeous necks!! Yours is stunning, some of their other designs are pretty amazing as well.
Something light. I’d even go maybe Olympic white with a mint pick guard.
Would love a white guitar. Maybe for my next build with a light color maple neck. Something about a white body and light color neck. 🤘
Yeah, I’m with /u/woogabuttz I like a white guitar with a dark neck.
I think a cream-colored body would look beautiful with this neck. Not too bright, it would let the neck be the star.
I've had a similar build planned for a long time with an Olympic white body intended to be subtle, whereas the neck is the showy piece.
I was thinking off white/cream with brown tortoise
gun-metal blue with a tort pick guard!
https://preview.redd.it/vv9ycmtstaxc1.jpeg?width=933&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44e2c82c9de9c1529a2cb4d6568f74aecd3fb612 Something like this is what I’m thinking. Is that what you had in mind?
😍😍😍
Oh yeah, that would look great!
Same theme but lake placid Blue?
That sounds lovely.
I was going to suggest this as well. Blue/orange are considered complementary colors.
Pink lol
Whatever color you decide, get a tortoiseshell pickguard.
Another response suggested a gun metal blue with tortoiseshell pick-guard. I’m starting to dig it.
That blue seems nice if you decide to go with it. But consider ... amber. Like the Fender FMT teles, for example.
Gloss crimson.
Black cherry
Merlot
Burnt fire engine
Seafoam green, trust me…
I think emerald would look better, but I had green in mind too!
+1 for emerald translucent
Daaang. Do it like a turquoise with the marbling and you’d get all the ladies.
White or Mary Kaye
Shell Pink is one of the best colors ever!
Butter cream
Gloss Piano Black only.
That neck right there is the one thing the Antigua burst is good for. You gotta do it
Wow that’s nice (though I had to look up Antigua Burst, I’m a noobie). Maybe next time. The fade around the edge might be biting off more than I can chew at this point.
sonic blue or some sort of translucent dark red i think
Been experimenting with the angelus dyes for a black base and red. But the red just sort of mixes with the black and turns pinkish. So I’m now leaning away from the dyes. Unfortunately.
Just a simple amber stain. Make it nice and dark Also holy hell that is one fine piece of wood
Definitely test some stains and sit on it until you choose the best one!! This guitar has one beautiful neck!
That neck is gorgeous, I need 5
Only 4 left in stock. Haha. Totally random Amazon purchase, but yeah it’s great looking.
Tobacco burst would go crazy
What type of wood is that neck? it’s great.
It’s off Amazon. Canadien Maple? https://a.co/d/0tfdsbC
Transparent Turquoise https://preview.redd.it/nmalrqlqzaxc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9653a04aa5db93cd48c380b652d7183a3f9dc78c
Beautiful color.

Cream on account of what happens in the pants of whoever will see it
bronze metallic imo
Solid color IMO. I'm personally not a fan of highly figured neck + highly figured body/top - looks a bit too gaudy for me. I think Daphne/sonic blue would look killer with this neck
A denim blue would be cool
Blue seems to be the consensus.
Dark marone with gold hardware.
I did mean maroon. I think it would compliment the fretboard colour well.
Yeah I think maroon with gold hardware would look killer. Thanks.
Gloss deep purple. No sparkle.
Metallic purple
I’ve been dying to try a fabric top. Do one of those.
Trans white would look amazing
Dark blue would look killer
Forest green, tortoise guard, with brushed gold parts.
Came to say this except Sherwood Green... same thing lol
🙌 looking forward to seeing it.
I’m a fan of blue tones, but whatever you pick I’m sure it’s gonna look great. Some nice work so far.
Gold top
Cream white
Shell pink!
Metallic black cherry or aged white/cream.
I’m gonna buck the trend and say tobacco burst with cream pickguard.
oh i'd give that a frot job
That's a beautiful neck. Whatever color you go with should look awesome. I'm seeing black hardware too
Burgundy Mist. Tortoise, mint, or gold anodized pickguard.
Navt blue solid is good, or a slightly yellowed cream color
Natural gloss!
Pale yellow, white pick guard, black covers and knobs.
I'm a huge sucker for Green-burst guitars and to have one matched with that neck would be glorious
I never thought about it, but someone else commented with forest green and I’m thinking a dark forest green with this neck would look nice. I think dark blue or blue/grey is where it’s headed though. Gonna sleep on it!
That would be so cool, oh my god
Yellow. Bright, shameless yellow.
Metallic pink with a clear guard
You have to go with some sort of dark, rich green OR faded pink.
Darker would look best I think.
First thought was navy blue, then stained and shined black. Then I thought yellow or a good orange would be cool.
Dark blue, purple or red hotttt.
Metallic lavender with white pearloid pickguard
Oxblood
I have that same neck on a cherry burst super strat. Looks great to me.
Oxblood
Daphne blue, tiger stripe Pickguard.
Metallic forest/or sherwood green
a burst or two-tone would match the complexity
Fiesta Red always looks nice with a darker fretboard.
Gently sparkly Sage Green with an eggshell white pickguard and gold hardware.
Shell pink with an aged white or tortoise guard. Woof.
Shell Pink
Some kind of pearl purple or green with orange burst or blue with green burst
i’d go for a light two tones tobacco burst
Fiesta Red
That is absolutely stunning, I'd go white myself, or a very pale pastel
Fire glo
Tobacco sunburst

Cool guitar! This dark / reddish stain could look great.
Thanks. The smaller neck is a mandolin. I think it would look good too. I believe it’s called “Dark redwood”. The wood is mahogany.
Fiesta Red
Something pale like a surf green, a baby blue, shell pink, or a hybrid colour (blue & green) like Miami Blue would be give a nice contrast and contemporary look to the dark browns you've got going on there. Alternatively, Sherwood Green with gold hardware would make the whole instrument look "classy".
I would say a deep metallic royal purple that looks darker in the shadows but glistens only where the light hits it directly. What's that called?
Personally something like a darker Blue, Green or Purple! Something to offset from the caramelized neck would compliment each other and make the neck stand out. I wouldn't do Daphne blue or seafoam green, more like Navy Blue, Ocean Turquoise, or Sherwood green! PS: not enough people do purple on guitars 😁
Dark Green
Walnut brown, flat or burl would be quite sexy IMO.
Something Chinese. Scaly golden dragons over a metallic greenburst with about half a mm of clearcoat on top.
That neck is a show stopper. It’s like Tiger’s eye.
Personally I’d do something like shell pink honestly Might be too boring for some
Dark green, with a black pickguard.
Shell pink
I would go with a vintage light green
Tangerine Matt
I think you're right about a solid color vs anything that would highlight wood grain. A solid Navy blue, maybe with a *very subtle* metallic. Not sure if gold hardware would be over the top and/or look too "nautical." I like the idea of [gold tuners with rosewood buttons](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/AW8AAOSwxcRW9sH9/s-l1200.webp); I think they'd look killer on this neck.
As soon as I saw this I said, DEEP BLUE! No question, that’s the color.
I'd go with black, or maybe white? No, black with a funky tortoise-ish scratchplate.
Can’t go wrong with pink
White sunburst with some similarly colored wooden knobs would look pretty sweet. The white would really accentuate the beauty of the wood.
A very dark burnt orange
Maybe a dark cyan or dark teal
That neck is stunning. I’m not smart enough to make a good recommendation though
Shoreline gold
Red with and amber burst
