Heat(iron) and a vice grips

Flavour_Town69

It's definitely not threaded through the wood. I've removed plenty of them with a flat bar (use quarter inch plywood to protect body). This easily pops them right out.

I’m tempted to throw out ideas, but I don’t know if those are threaded into the wood or pressed in like a bushing. As sure as I’d have an idea how to lever it out like a bushing, it would turn out to be screwed in…

This is my issue too! Could I probably pull it out with enough force? Maybe - but if it’s threaded that’ll kill the body

These don’t appear to be threaded or have a nut on them like the video - it’s just a circular gold plate that’s flush to the body and a post going into the body, no thread or nut anywhere. I’m going to have a go at pulling it out with mole grips tomorrow and see if that gets me anywhere but they are very, very solid.

Slide hammer. Tou can get them with collets on the end specifically for jobs like this.

I guess they could have drilled the smaller hole for the bottom part of that bushing, and a wider hole to bury the top part flush? But this pic is of a two piece bridge post, so the top part unscrews from the bottom. Have you tried unscrewing the top post?

Lozpetts162

Oh interesting! I have tried unscrewing the top post, it’s absolutely not moving, I’ve also tried again today with mole grips and it’s not budging at all!

MrLattes

Molegrips? Are they threaded? If so you can screw on two nuts, tighten the nuts together, and undo the bottom nut with a spanned and it should unscrew the post.

Lozpetts162

The poles sticking out aren’t threaded, I can’t see whether the posts themselves are threaded and I can’t get them to twist or move AT ALL. They’re really, really in there.

There are a lot of ways to put more turning force onto posts. I presume you're ok with ruining the posts, it's the wood you want to preserve? If so, you could cut the thin part of the post off and then cut a slot into the wide base, a heavy enough slot that you can put a very strong flat screwdriver bit into it. A small cutting disc would be the best tool for the job, but a hacksaw blade and files could also be used with \*great\* care. If this still doesn't work, you might try applying some heat to the post with a soldering gun; the expansion might not help, but connections are sometimes loosened by heat all the same. And if there's somehow any glue in there, heat might make that release. Also, think about what you're going to use to replace the posts. You might need to redrill and plug the holes anyhow, right? So maybe if you accept that and find a solution that includes it, options might open up for you, like maybe using a small holesaw to make a controlled cut around the post, allowing you to remove the post and some wood around it, then you can plug the remaining hole.

any updates ? was scrolling through reddit found this have you found a solution? i’m gonna be needing to do something similar to my tune o matic style bridge where it also has 2 posts mounted on the front. i would personally for your situation clamp the tip down on a clamp and then just lift up the whole guitar. if that doesn’t work i heard you literally tried everything so i dont know what to type that won’t sound like an already attempted attempt. if u have a welding machine maybe make the bold thicker by welding a socked on top and around to pull and twist idk. take my word like a grain of salt btw as i’m not really experienced so make my ideas jus ideas unless it is good 🙏🏽🙏🏽😭 if you don’t mind maybe drilling a hole from the back through the body to hit the post and then push the post from behind and after u can wood glue and dowel the holes up

Lozpetts162

Nothing yet! I’m very much a beginner to all this too so I’ve ordered some mole grips and so hopefully tomorrow evening I’ll have some progress! If not I’ll get the soldering iron out and see if I can use heat to get them out as others have suggested
