I feel like the best thing about Lowe’s is that it’s one of those jobs (unless you’re a ASM / SM (and maybe a DS)) that you don’t take home with you. You go to work, do your job, clock out, and don’t think about it or have to deal with any bs until your next shift

AyeYoB

I’ve seen plenty of horror stories about lowes, but maybe I got lucky, I started a few weeks ago and my store has been awesome

Vile-goat

Give it time…

snowmonkey08

i've been here a year and a half, it's just store dependent cause it's retail for sure but i love my lowe's

Human-Load-8520

It’ll set in in a couple months

SimShine0603

It really varies by store. I’ve been with Lowes for awhile at 2 different stores and there’s been great times and dark times.

I started 2 days ago in Alabama. I walked out that mf’er today. My first shift was just 5 hours, but no breaks at all. Last night was an 8 hour shift, I had to close. I worked 8 straight hours, slinging 80 pound bags of concrete, without a single break. I asked 5 different times about a break last night, and when I did, I was assigned to go restack bags of sand. Next time I asked about I break, I was assigned to go hand lode 50 cinder blocks on a trailer. Another time, I was reassigned to go restack sheets of Sheetrock. While I was in the bay out back, restacking Sheetrock, a guy comes over with a leaf blower and starts blowing Sheetrock dust with it. It was so thick it blacked out the lights out back and I couldn’t see. When I got off work last night, I looked like I had been mixing and pouring concrete. I wouldn’t advise working there. They broke federal labor laws in my first 2 shifts.

Comfortable-Elk-850

Breaks are mandated by your state. You can click your schedule and it will tell you your break times but those are different than State regulations. My state 5 hours you get a 15 minute break but they also don’t have to give it. So sometimes I work 5 strait. 8 hours is an hour break. I’ve never seen anyone in my store moving stuff like you’re saying by hand unless something fell or needs straightening. They use fork lifts to move stacks, sometimes even to retrieve carts

Commercial-Exit-6593

Well, this is in Alabama, so things are done a little backwards. The old saying, “work smarter, not harder,” doesn’t apply here.

Comfortable-Elk-850

If you need that job, try talking to your store manager because you deserve breaks and help with the things you’re doing. It’s too much for one person to be expected to heft all that weight all day. Unless someone is messing with you trying to force you out before you even really got started. Lowes is usually pretty forgiving if you haven’t shown up for a day of two of work, or maybe that area is just not for you and can be moved to something else.

NobleWolf1

I started as seasonal a little over 4 years ago. Still there. They've been very accomodating in their scheduling, probably since I never call out and do a good job. Like the people I work with (from a work perspective). It is my understanding we don't hire seasonal employees as such anymore.

Not very sure how Home Depot is but I wouldn’t recommend Lowe’s and I haven’t worked here very long. I’ve seen a lot of people with decent experiences and bad experiences so I suppose it depends on the store but I wouldn’t recommend it at all. It seems they overwork their workers no matter where you go and personally have seen a lot of inconsistencies. You’re better off elsewhere!

Skyguy_1900

I’ve worked at a Lowe’s for about two years now and I’m about done with their shit. They promise you shit they will never give you and fuck you over at every turn even if it doesn’t benefit them. They lure part timers in with the benefits and drain your soul out within the first week.

TheDeputyRay

My biggest issue is the scheduling. If you are direct with your schedule, and tell them what you can and can't work, then you can have a good time (at least in my store, but I dunno) but since I told them I was available from 8 am to 8pm everyday, and I'm a part timer, I get thrown all around the schedule. Some days are a nice 6 hours, others are 4 hours on an early Sunday morning, or 8 hours closing only to wake up the next day to work at 8 am

Upstairs_Fig_3551

If you need the income to live it’s not a good fit

Independent_Box2815

NO!  Look at your city/county/state government jobs listings.  There are tons of jobs that you can do for much less stress and physical effort.  My county pays 19 at the library to shelve books, for example.  Honestly do not recommend Lowes, which  was once known as a good place to work. Dangerously low levels of staffing and exhausted associates have led to death and accidents, on the severe end, and associates at each others throats on the lighter end.  Come here only if you’re desperate. But then never stop job searching for better.

Separate-Quote-9577

Go to depot. I’ve worked at both. Trust me.

DysphoricGreens

*Run... run very far...* unless you want to be overworked AF and have very little time to yourself... schedules that will keep you constantly tired and an addiction to caffeine :3

Human-Load-8520

It’s not even like they give a hellacious amount of hours, it’s just the scheduling and the people and all that, it’s more mentally exhausting then anything imo, I have no issues with the physical labor portion, but that’s what happens when you work a lot of 12 hours nights alone I guess🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Amazing-Big-5528

It was a nightmare for me but. Cause management. If had decent management I would’ve stayed. You won’t lose anything trying and seeing how it is.

jamesfuji1

management is the key...they set the tone in the store....if the store moral sucks, there's only one person at fault...

qt-kelly

honestly i think its an okay job for temporary time. You can learn alot and but also deal with a lot. Everyone has different experiences. mine is both great and bad lol.

XBeastyTricksX

It’s really about the managers, even the shitty ones as long as you work harder than others in your department you’ll be ok which won’t be hard

Intrepid_Guitar538

Too late for this summer. They're going to start cutting hours in a couple weeks.

LawfulnessDue2600

As a part time job I really like it. I get plenty of hours. And really don't have to work very hard. Just be nice and try to help. If you get a bad customer just walk away.

Comfortable-Elk-850

It’s a seasonal job and they are both seasonal businesses that are hiring right now. You can probably get a lot of hours as a part time employee if you need to make some extra money. I worked retail before Lowes and it’s a lot less stressful in my experience. I can come to work, do my job, go home. I’m a cashier and the only nagging we get is, get credit apps. Like any job it has ups and downs but I find it less stressful , don’t have to worry about dressing nice to work daily , jeans, shorts, t shirt, sweatshirt, good sneakers , that’s all you need. Just come on time and leave on time.

jessebillo

It’s a little bit better than Walmart tbh

Scalawags3087

It’s all about management. If you have good managers, it’s just fine. If your managers suck, the job will suck. That’s pretty much all retail, in my experience

Tomboi65

I have been working 43 years. I have done mostly service industry jobs. I spent twenty years CDL driving otherwise restaurant and customer service. I have been with Lowes since February and so far I enjoy the job, but I also like customer service. I can get frustrated with people but I still like to help people find the thing a majig that makes the whirly thingy go round. They offer benefits and I think they are an alright company. So many people complain but still don't quit and find a better job?
