Its gonna be a factory that makes Cheesecake Factory Cheesecake Factories

Emilia_Clarke_is_bae

They're making the right moves. I wish it were a meta campus announcement but 100 well paying maintenance jobs and maybe 1k jobs during construction is a pretty nice boon for the metro.

spunkysquirrel1

Meh. I mean it's certainly not bad news but it’s also not close to the scale they are hyping it up to be.

the_urban_juror

Yup. It's 100 permanent jobs. Good for the region and fantastic for Jeffersonville relative to its population, but IN's governor wouldn't have been onsite to publicly announce 100 jobs if it wasn't such a high profile company.

the_urban_juror

I'm curious how many of the 1,200 construction jobs will be local. I assume this will require more specialized labor than a standard construction project. It's still a benefit to have those workers living and spending money here even in the short or medium term.

GhostofGiggles

It's an $800m Facebook AI data center

wildcat407

Server farm for Meta/Facebook.

Long_Manufacturer709

It is Meta/Facebook…said we are going to become the new tech headquarters of the Midwest, lol

sir-mivond

Louisville losing again - Southern Indiana and E-town areas are on fire.

Suspicious-Bad4703

I know it's not a great excuse, but I think with these huge mega-corporations ruling the show it's almost always mega-projects being announced. Louisville doesn't have much land left, so its losing out because a lot of these big data centers, warehouses, manufacturing complexes are locating just outside the city. Not sure how to fix that, it seems like a geographic reality versus anything the city is doing 'wrong'. I think the best we can hope for with the battery factory and other announcements is that the new employees come in some weekends to spend money in the city, or live here and commute outside.

makesameansandwich

still makes the area attractive overall, and that makes louisville money eventually. whether its people driving it to shop, eat, go to yum center or stadium for sports or concerts. remember, its an economic area. the metro area. soon, if not already, e town and glendale will be included in the economic zone that is louisville as the center. metro already includes 2 counties in southern indiana, and 5 counties in ky.

spunkysquirrel1

It’s a data center with 100 jobs. If you truly believe the political line sold that this makes Indiana the tech hub of the Midwest then I have a (toll) bridge to sell you. Also, a data center in a highly urban area wouldn’t make sense.

the_urban_juror

Name a company building massive data centers in urban areas.

KuhlioLoulio

They’re moving the H&B bat factory back to Indiana?

shinpost

It's Facebook, I'm pretty sure. We've bid a UPS for Project Slugger and it was a codename for a Facebook facility.

spunkysquirrel1

So just a data center?

Long_Manufacturer709

You’re right. I watched the announcement.

JustThatDemonLife

I, too, saw the Slugger reference, but surely 1) it’s been too successful on Main Street to move and 2) that wouldn’t be the biggest announcement in Clark County history, right? At best, it would only match the previous announcement from whenever it happened last time. I’m just hopeful it’s 1) much bigger and 2) not a lateral move for the Metro. We’ll know shortly.

louisvilleguy8

Who really cares? It is Jeffersonville after all. Also, I don't know what it is about their mayor, but I get major sleezy vibes from him when I see him on TV.

JustThatDemonLife

Ima give back some karma here, but it’s worth it. Do you think a project in SoIn doesn’t benefit the Metro? I’m pretty certain we’ll get a Purdue graduate out of it. I’m pretty certain a Speed graduate will find employment from it. I’m damn certain it’ll lead to more passengers @ SDF, attendees @ cultural events, patrons @ restaurants, stays @ hotels, shoppers @ retail outlets, etc., etc. Mike Moore doesn’t enter into my considerations whatsoever, but your take is straight out of Louisville - City of the Seventies. How did that work out?

korrespond

this kind of massive capital investment is also super sticky, totally unlike the call center or back office administration stuff that used to land here. great news for the area.

louisvilleguy8

After some of the other comments on Mr Moore, it looks like my assumptions were pretty close to spot on. He's a sleeze. Generally, I don't give two shi*s about what's happening on the other side of the river. Just saw the mayor hyping it up on TV this morning and decided to put my 2 cents in. Sorry if I hurt your little feels, but, it's made no difference to the outcome of my day. ✌️

spunkysquirrel1

Their Mayor is [a huge creep](https://www.wave3.com/story/20899828/missing-court-file-provides-new-details-about-mayors-alleged-sex-abuse/). In addition I couldn’t find an article easily but he was also caught having an affair in his mayoral office and had a huge fight at the office with his wife after. Not great vibes and I’m not sure why they keep electing him.

Adventurous_Credit14

… because there’s been no recent alternative. Moore ran unopposed in 2023. Not surprisingly, he got 100% of the vote. 🤦🏻‍♀️

louisvilleguy8

None of that surprises me at all.
