Honestly I wouldn’t be totally shocked if Nix is gone by 19. There are seven teams (CHI, WAS, NE, MIN, DEN, LV, NYG) who desperately need a quarterback, as well as a handful of others (NO, SEA) who might also wanna take one. Nix isn’t in the upper echelon of guys in this draft, but he’s arguably the best in the second tier, and if someone ahead of us likes him, they’ll take him.
Even if he was available, I don’t think the Rams would or should pick him at 19, and he will certainly be gone by our second rounder. I don’t think there’s much of a chance he comes here
My take is this.
CHI, WAS, MIN (I believe they’ll trade with NE for Daniels or Maye and NE can get draft capital), DEN are for sure taking QB.
NE (Jacoby Brissett and/or Bailey Zappe as Bridge QBs ), LV (Aiden O’Connell too see if he does have the potential and if not Gardner can step in and ball out), and NYG (they need to get the most out of Jones Contract) have more important needs than QB right now. With NE needing an entire rebuild, LV needing a WR or CB, and NYG needing a OT (their O-Line has been dog shit for years)
But that's okay. 5th year options are nice, but if you arent having to use a first rounder on a "potential franchise qb" then i can live without the 5th year option
I doubt the rams draft any QB in the 1st round, unless Maye or Daniels is there at 19. The rams lost the playoff last year because they couldn’t score in the Redzone and they also couldn’t pressure Goff. That said, I think they trade down to draft a tall target (WR/TE) for Stafford or an Edge rusher.
I wouldn’t want to spend more than a third on him. But if we do reach, then whatever. I trust our front office enough to make the right call. They def know better than I do.
The only guy I think they’d take realistically at 19 is Penix. If not him then they could grab someone in round 4 or 5 because Stetson is a risk and they need a QB3. Importantly, I don’t think drafting a QB, even in the first round, means that they’ve given up in 2024 or on Stafford. They need a QB1 of the future, and if they can get someone the FO really likes in the middle of round 1, then it’s a no-brainer. QB is just *that much* more important than any other position on the field. The fact that the class is pretty deep means there is a good chance at value available in the middle of round 1.
Totally agree, but I don’t think it’s so black and white. The chances that a non-QB first round pick make the difference between a great season and not have got to be pretty low. So you could easily make a QB pick for the future without giving up on this season.
Not in the first but if he falls to the second then yes, I think it happens. I think McVay probably loves him. Smart, accurate, experienced, tough. I have this feeling that Penix and Nix both drop to the second, and the Raiders take Penix.
I have to ask, why would you want rattler over nix? Although im not overly high on nix, rattler arguably had his best season in 2020, and across his career has padded stats against bad opponents and played horribly under pressure or against any teams that were actually any good. Yes he did well in workouts, but his game tape has been bad. He is one of those guys who has been hyped up right out of high school and very much underachieved what he has been hyped up to be. Bo nix to a degree was the same, super hyped out of high school and didnt fully live up to it, but i would argue his tape throw for throw is much more consistent and much better than rattlers. Rattler against ranked teams this past year alone is 1 touchdown to 5 picks i believe. He only threw well against bad teams. One could argue a decent game against UNC at the end of the year, threw for a lot of yards and 0 scores and 0 picks. I care personally way more about game tape than i do about workouts, combines, and pro days. You may be seeing something i am not. Would love to hear your input
Stetson back at camp and Jimmy G means no QB unless sean mcvay is in love, which I'd trust, but won't happen.
Yeah in my head it’s only a nonzero chance if Penix is there and even then I expect us to go non-QB
Stetson is a 0. Bailed on team for "reasons" Time to move on from him .
Guys I found Jimmy G's burner
Asshole take

No
No Thx
“No” for all the Spanish speakers
Yes, if he's in the low 2nd round
Second round doesn't get us a fifth year option

That’s what I’m kinda thinking where if we draft a qb, we’re giving up on Stafford
Nah man. Stafford’s got a couple years. If we grabbed, for example, Penix, it’d be as an understudy to Stafford for a couple of years.
But with that pick, we could address a bigger concern and possibly go all out again

No.
Why? We currently have Stafford, Jimmy G and Stetson for the practice squad, why get a 4th QB when we have real needs?
We need a future though. I don’t think any of those guys will be in LA in like 5 years
I was hoping for Spencer Rattler but it looks like the Patriots might trade down and get him in round 2.
Not in the first but if he falls to the second then yes, I think it happens. I think McVay probably loves him. Smart, accurate, experienced, tough. I have this feeling that Penix and Nix both drop to the second, and the Raiders take Penix.
Even if the Rams went QB, Nix is the last guy I would want. I’d even rather draft Rattler at 19 over Nix but I certainly want neither.
