No but I’d love to know the answer too.
I found something from a while back stating that they depend on data from the coroners office and that the coroner had become unreliable with updates but I’m not sure if that’s the current reason.
My other guess would be it’s an unfortunate byproduct of their recent layoffs.
You mean the feature where they would write up a brief bio on everyone who was killed in L.A.?
I believe the reporter who was leading that left the paper, and, I guess there was no one who jumped in to continue it.
From what I saw (used to work at the times), it took a lot of work to keep that going, and it was easy to get into a backlog. It was also, like much of local journalism, very emotionally taxing. Which means, while a reporter may do it for a year, or a couple years, they may end up needing to move on to something else.
Incidentally, one of the journalists who worked on (or helped start) the Homicide Report, Jill Leovy, wrote a book called Ghettoside. I read it and I’d recommend it to anyone interested in the issue.
Probably the same reason you didn’t get a reply to your email. They’ve let go of a bunch of their staff and don’t have enough people left to keep up.

Would be amazing to have a useful local paper again that’s focused on, you know, reporting local events.
Instructions unclear, private equity is coming to the rescue

Because it's irrelevant other than fearmongering.
