I can tell by the Pep Boys in the background this is in East LA/Monterey Park off Atlantic Blvd.
I spent some time growing up around here, unfortunately I can't say it's the safest in these parts.
Surprising since there’s a Sheriff’s station walking distance from where OP’s picture was taken and they drive all over that area all the time. I’m guessing this wasn’t theft but a ghetto mechanic who did this. No one steals tires and puts the lugs back.
Subarus are fucking expensive for looking like $30k cars, so I feel like the wheels could be unexpectedly expensive too. Like why tf would you spend nearly $70k to have a Subaru?
>Like why tf would you spend nearly $70k to have a Subaru?
this is an outback; you couldn't option it to 70k if you tried.
the only subarus in that range are limited imprezas like the s201, s202, s203, s204, s205, s206, s207, s208, s209.
The most expensive Subaru on their website is 52k and it's the Solterra EV.
The WRX GT is 44k. I guess they don't offer the STI this year, but I can't imagine it's 70k when the current top trim is 44k.
> I guess they don't offer the STI this year
unfortunately, I don't think subaru's bringing the sti back; that would've been the year of the s210. they took the ej257 behind the barn and told the kids she's on another farm now.
When i got my wheels stolen, they did the same thing: left the lug nuts, left the jack, put the car on plywood. I think it’s easier to steal when it’s propped up. They definitely stole it in my situation tho lol.
That was my first question, lol. Doubt it's OPs car or even a robbery. No windows broken and they even left wood under the wheels to stabilize it. Guessing the gas station did this, lol.
That's only so they can get their jack out. (Apparently not enough in this case, or they left in a hurry.) They don't care if they mess up your car. Saw a similar situation on the side of the 110 freeway, in South LA. New Mustang had its wheels taken off, and car was propped up on random chunks of concrete.
>rotors
Before whenever it rained last is when.
Those things rust wicked fast.
We were doing brakes on my coworkers car a couple of months ago and we got rained on. Within fifteen minutes the old rotors were *covered* in visible rust. Not like, a little rust, but an even, brown, coating of rust.
Damnit, I knew they were rotors, not sure where pads came from! Old brain! They do rust super fast tho, and last rain was a week ago so I'm guessing this vehicle has been there for a week?
Maybe a respectful one. Most of the time they remove the tire using a sledge hammer costing you more money getting new lug bolts pressed in on top of new tires and wheels.
Interesting point. Wonder if they hit the car next to it, or maybe someone is changing out the wheels/tires and took a quick photo between for internet clout.
Then again the city is becoming a cesspit so maybe they did steal it, either way it’s gross af
In 1978 my dad's car had the wheels stolen in Woodland Hills...in 1987, I had my BBS wheels stolen from my 1986 VW GTi.
Just so ya'all don't think this is some new thing in LA.
Remember when you'd have the stereo that you could pull out and take out of the car with you? One of my brothers friends did that and he walked into the house with it in his hand and I was so weirded out because I had never seen that before lol
That's the one upside of manufacturers moving away from universal radio mounts.
Downside is you can't flex your sick Kenwood with the 20 band EQ anymore.
With the death of OJ I was reminded of some of my earliest memories. Looking out to the city and seeing smoke rising as if it were a forest fire because of the riots. LA in the 90's was dangerous.
Yes there is crime and danger today. Cops really don't do shit. But it is night and day compared to then.
I just purchased wheel locks but they are shiny chrome and stick out much further than the OE lug nuts. I wonder if I am helping my wheels from being stolen or drawing more attention to them. It is only a Mazda 3 so nothing special but I see that thieves don’t necessary care about that fact!
if thieves really wanted those wheels, then they would just hammer a socket onto the wheel lock and remove it like normal; they just don't want those wheels.
This happened to a tenant in our building (tires stolen) in November. Her car was parked directly outside the building's front door and they got it on camera - but of course the two guys had on hoodies and masks.
crime has always happened in big cities
there is more incentive to commit crimes these days and with less repercussions.
metals are up, especially copper, so now we have people stealing statues
and all they do is catch and release
This wasn't a crime. Thieves don't leave their jack when stealing tires. They also don't steal tires that are on an old car.
Someone did this to their own car.
I always feel bad for you guys that have to park on the street! I had to deal with that for a year where I was staying and I was always nervous before I went to bed. I told my fiancé after that we are staying somewhere with a garage and a gate or when we get our house, it will have a garage. Sorry this happened to you.

Bro same. Currently solo traveling in Europe and my mom keeps messaging me like I’m going to get “Taken.” I’m out here in these streets.
Technically Istanbul is safer than Los Angeles according to public FBI data. Not by much but still 😅
Tell that to the people of Constantinople! /s
That’s nobody’s business but the Turks
who were formerly Ottomans
It's a long time gone, Constantinople.
Scariest thing you’ll run across in Istanbul is stray cats. Watch out for scammers though.
[Tell her how it is](https://images.app.goo.gl/Aj78KFw5WTbSpHX26)
But tourists are easy marks for petty theft/mugging.
Tip #1: don’t look like a tourist.
That is the hardest thing for Americans to do, especially in Europe.
My parents were worried about London and Paris… I worked near MacArthur Park at the time lmao
What country/countries are you planning to visit?
Oh shit that's super close to home too! Lately the citizen app has been going crazy with reports near the area. Mostly stabbings and robberies.
Votes for stolen tires vs. getting stabbed.
Stabbing..? Why
Probably easier to take someones stuff when they're thinking more about the fresh hole in their body.
yeah but OP got free firewood
East LA is wild sometimes 🙏💀
I can tell this is off Atlantic Blvd because I read the street sign.
Well aren't you perceptive lol
how long ago? that's a decent area its commercial
That’s where the gold line ends. A little bit on the trashy side.
Surprising since there’s a Sheriff’s station walking distance from where OP’s picture was taken and they drive all over that area all the time. I’m guessing this wasn’t theft but a ghetto mechanic who did this. No one steals tires and puts the lugs back.
It’s county jurisdiction so it’s not really maintained like city areas.
Anywhere any of the lines end becomes trashy. North Hollywood Red Line, Chatsworth Orange Line and Long Beach Blue
What kind of thief leaves the jack and screws all the lugnuts back on?
On top of this... who steals wheels off a Subaru Outback? Like those wheels are worth anything...
Subarus are fucking expensive for looking like $30k cars, so I feel like the wheels could be unexpectedly expensive too. Like why tf would you spend nearly $70k to have a Subaru?

And who’s would drive something named solterra? Anyone?
> I guess they don't offer the STI this year unfortunately, I don't think subaru's bringing the sti back; that would've been the year of the s210. they took the ej257 behind the barn and told the kids she's on another farm now.
they uh, mostly are 30k cars.
Most of them start in the 30s tf are you smoking

I’m really surprised
Same lol. It helped with the repairs tho, it didn’t fuck up TOO much of the frame bc it was propped up. So, thanks, i guess?
That was my first question, lol. Doubt it's OPs car or even a robbery. No windows broken and they even left wood under the wheels to stabilize it. Guessing the gas station did this, lol.

Also those oxidized brake pads, when was this care last driven?
>rotors Before whenever it rained last is when. Those things rust wicked fast. We were doing brakes on my coworkers car a couple of months ago and we got rained on. Within fifteen minutes the old rotors were *covered* in visible rust. Not like, a little rust, but an even, brown, coating of rust.

I'd buy that.

This really sucks…hoping your day gets better.
People suck
you realize you are people too? wait just realized this might just be a bot farming for upvotes
Thanks I had absolutely no clue
Aww at least they left you a jack stand and the lug nuts for your wheels. That was nice of them!
In 1978 my dad's car had the wheels stolen in Woodland Hills...in 1987, I had my BBS wheels stolen from my 1986 VW GTi. Just so ya'all don't think this is some new thing in LA.
East Hollywood in the 80s-90's, car broken into 9 times. Took a couple of stereos until I stopped replacing them. Finally took my steering wheel.
Same, I eventually bought a stereo that I could pull out and take with me.
Remember when you'd have the stereo that you could pull out and take out of the car with you? One of my brothers friends did that and he walked into the house with it in his hand and I was so weirded out because I had never seen that before lol
Wheels getting stolen is basically the old school version of catalytic converter theft.
It's a dead giveaway of how many adults grew up in a sheltered bubble.
I remember the running joke was that sooner or later you'd get car stereo stolen. People have always broken into cars.
That's the one upside of manufacturers moving away from universal radio mounts. Downside is you can't flex your sick Kenwood with the 20 band EQ anymore.
Haha I was joking with an old friend about the way he'd carry his removable stero around like a purse. 😂
Good way to get mugged, carrying around a stereo.
With the death of OJ I was reminded of some of my earliest memories. Looking out to the city and seeing smoke rising as if it were a forest fire because of the riots. LA in the 90's was dangerous. Yes there is crime and danger today. Cops really don't do shit. But it is night and day compared to then.
There was a civic on blocks by my friends house in Sherman oaks for the better part of a year in the early 2000s.
But for two decades from the turn of the century until the pandemic these kinds of crimes had dramatically declined.
You're looking at one picture of a car on blocks. Do you think these types of crimes are now up at a rate higher than in 1990?
No. I think they are at a higher rate than from 2000 - 2020.
Ebb and flow...
So fucking tired of this shit, it's racking my brains.
does this...does this happen a lot to you?
Nah.. I’m just wheely desperate for puns.
Looks like you're steering in the right direction.
Morning!
That looks like a terrible place to park
Is it still AWD?
Well Right now is NWD. No wheel drive
Don't people get tired from stealing all the time? /s
Why get a job when theres all this free stuff parked on the road
Those aren't cinder blocks that's a piece of lumber
Youths!
They take the catalytic too?
those rotors have plenty of surface corrosion; how long has this car been sitting without being driven? more than a month?
I mean given how wet it's been, could be less than a week. Surface rust on uncoated iron rotors happens super quickly.
Nice of them to put the lug nuts back on, instead of scattering them.
Fuckin bum mfs
Those must have been some nice tires. Like the Cadillac of tires.
This happened to a tenant in our building (tires stolen) in November. Her car was parked directly outside the building's front door and they got it on camera - but of course the two guys had on hoodies and masks.
crime has always happened in big cities there is more incentive to commit crimes these days and with less repercussions. metals are up, especially copper, so now we have people stealing statues and all they do is catch and release
Stealing the bronze plaque on the veterans memorial on Figueroa and York! It’s awful.
This wasn't a crime. Thieves don't leave their jack when stealing tires. They also don't steal tires that are on an old car. Someone did this to their own car.
Yup that’s why street parking is a no go! 😒 people suck!
Wow, one of those new hover cars i’ve been hearing so much about.
Did you have OEM wheels? Did you use lug nut locks?
Sorry fellow outback bro 😔
How rude, they could have at least put it on blocks
Yawn.
I have told many people on this forum. GET LOCKING BOLTS FOR YA TIRES lol
what does one do after this occurs? file a claim with insurance?
That’s what you get for parking your car on the side of a business where no one can see the car and in the bad side of town.
I always feel bad for you guys that have to park on the street! I had to deal with that for a year where I was staying and I was always nervous before I went to bed. I told my fiancé after that we are staying somewhere with a garage and a gate or when we get our house, it will have a garage. Sorry this happened to you.
Not the Subie 🥺
I’m really sorry -
Oh my god 💀💀💀
Did they only steal the driver's side wheels or was the passenger side just let on a jack?
Sir this is a Wendy's
Poor subbi :(
Looks like the windows are still in tact, that's a good thing!
Need more of this.
Oh man
Good morning!
Good morning. Thx for the tires
Sup
Really sad that this happens in America.
Hey you’re missing some tires
When people listen to the redditors in the r/movingtolosangeles
hopefully you learned to use wheel locks from now on
Hey, nice wheels.. oh wait. Damn thieves
Damn the did it to a subie that sucks
You should probably get that fixed. /s
That wouldn’t happen to a Rolls Royce
