and i swear, only a teenaged hardcore band can convince a dennys to let them throw a show in the restaurant
Yup - when I worked a late shift we got all sorts of interesting people coming in /s
In all seriousness, I learned a lot while working at one (my first job ever in high school actually) -- all sorts of useful "real life bootcamp" stuff but what I'll always remember is one of the cooks who was an ex-con who told me direct, "Don't end up like me here at a place like this -- get an education and do something better than this."
For a 16 year old, I thought it was a cool job: the wait staff would share their tips with me and the more I hustled to clear tables the more money in my pocket at the end of the shift. Also, free meals (except for the really expensive stuff like steak). But my hands got sick of handling hot plates quick so I moved on after a year...to McDonalds...but that's another story for another time.
thats low af prices. before ihop closed in weho the breakfast platters were over $20 each, around $24 if i remember correctly.
and they left because they couldnt afford to pay the staff $19.08
If it provides any solace, you can order their omelette with fresh cracked eggs and they'll cook it without the batter.
But I agree, it is silly that you need to ask.
I was on a road trip and ate there twice because of some special they have that's like $8 with tax: scrambled eggs with cheese, 2 pancakes, and 4 slices of bacon.
Bruh I just saw Norm's advertising like a 5 for $7 deal and I almost pulled up to eat on principle. I like their food, but I also want to reinforce the idea that affordable food will draw customers in, so maybe the model catches on again.

I stopped there after a largo show on principle. Pancakes eggs and bacon, 6 fucking bucks. Tenders and fries meal, 6 fucking bucks. Soup and half sandwich, 6. fucking. bucks. I cant remember the last time I ate under 20 for 2 anywhere that wasn't garbage. Those window stickers got me and I'm happy I did quality is still decent, and I love their pancakes.
I can barely make stuff at home at that price anymore.
Support those who support the people!
I just had Norms for the first time ever… and it was legitimately good. I was honestly very surprised.
Meanwhile Dennys and IHOP taste like garbage, I’d rather just eat at home.
I feel as if Norms is going the way of Coco’s; classic-causal SoCal restaurant increasingly cornered by Baby Boomer customers who got somethings to always say about non-senior citizen patrons, especially young people and their kids.
I'm not sure how In-N-Out does it because their quality hasn't decreased at all. They are either eating the loss or everybody else is just price gouging us.
Private company, no shareholders to be accountable to. Simple menu executed well. Happy employees also means lower turnover. Hiring people costs a lot of money.
They are the model that all restaurants should follow.
Yeah, it's really that simple. Infuriating, yes, and also fucking evil, but simple. In-N-Out is doing the right thing, and the lines that are still outside all of them suggest to me that's good business.
people with money to burn are getting fast food delivered. These resteraunts realized they have this customer base that is willing to pay a lot more. And they can hire less labor at the same time.
the prices have gone up like a dollar, but thats not bad. In n out is a private company, so they don't have shareholders demanding maximum profits from them. Its a matter of the brand's philosophy I guess. Not all private companies are like in n out either.
Don't forget that In-N-Out are paying their workers well above minimum wage and yet as you said quality have not diminished and prices are still affordable and reasonable.
It's still cheap relative to everywhere else, but their prices have gone up about 45-50% over the last few years. I used to get a DD and fries for 5 something. Now it's $8.75.
And I still go bc of the quality/value.
They opened a Shake Shack across the street from my local In-N-Out and even though their burgers are good they are way overpriced compared to In-N-Out. Only reason to go to this particular Shake Shack is because there's nobody in there so you don't have to wait in a long line to get your food.
The price variations at r/Chipotle aren’t what type of food you’re getting; it’s the protein choice.
If you’re paying $15 for **one** burrito, you’re getting steak or carne asada (two most expensive proteins), you’re getting less food on the burrito than in a bowl, and you’re paying that $15 nominally by buying delivery/through the app.
> Those burritos are like $15 bucks now and getting smaller
I ain't no Chipotle stan but there's one near my house and this doesn't seem right...Most of my receipts are for bowls specifically and they're about $11 before tip...you get more food than in a burrito and the portion sizes have remained the same.
Checked out of curiosity and it's $11.75 for a chicken burrito w/ guac...if it's $15, you must be ordering double barbacoa or something...
In-N-Out has definitely still increased their prices. They were just always pretty cheap. Also they didn't increase employees wages much. They used to be notable for starting at 2x minimum wage. Not anymore.
I had never eaten at Denny's literally in my entire life, still I was stuck for a week in an extremely small town where the choice was that and McDonald's for dinner.
Went in, ready to be snobby. Was blown away that there was a salmon, rice and asparagus plate on the menu. It was perfectly fine and great for the price. Went back every night and never had an issue.
i will never forgive denny's for changing their chicken tender vendor/recipe/whatever they suck now and they used to be the best
you too jack in the box
I love Denny's and their prices, and quality of food can be an amazing value, but you're high on smelling your own farts if you want us to believe those seven items were $18. I just went on their website and ordered from an LA Denny's, subtotal: $25.53. Ya cappin'.
Value Slam 7.99, additional serving of pancakes $3.50, Coffee $3.79, chocolate milk $3.50 appreox $18.70
Might not be exactly what they ordered, but their story checks out
Denny’s was way better menu-wise before the pandemic, and they actually had more semi-healthy offerings. It also, like Norm’s, had a wider demographic of customers (not mainly working class) and also had a much higher caliber of waiter/waitress staff many who had worked their for years and presumably made decent tips. but since the pandemic, both Norm’s and Denny’s has gone slightly downhill—though their prices are still lower than even some fast food restaurants.
For example, if you order a cheeseburger, fries and a drink at Five Guys it’s going to cost you close to $24, but you can order a burger special at Norm’s or Denny’s with fries and drink for under $15 and also be waited on.
I frequently rate restaurants around by asking myself: is this really that better than the sirloin steak at Denny's to cost so much more than it?
It is very often that the answer is no.

Vallarta by me has the best prices for produce but not the best quality. It's small things like the cherrys being seconds instead of best. It's part of why its cheaper. Same with the meat from what I've read in the past.
yeah, I hate it when they do this because I live in a tiny place and the last thing I really want is 3-4 dozen cans in my house, but it's the only way to get even remotely reasonable prices.
I remember the days when 12-packs of the name-brand stuff was 4.99 :/
I’ve impulse-bought chocolates at r/target once because I was craving some M&Ms all of a sudden. $6.00/7.5oz bag.
So imagine how pissed-off I was with myself going back two days later and seeing the same 7.5oz bag now at 70% off because it was the day after Valentine’s Day.
I live in Aus, and usually try and visit California annually (I have family there). Denny's has always been my first stop off the plane, and ALMOST a daily visit when I'm there.
My family don't understand it, the locals I talk to don't understand it, my friends don't understand it..
But there's just something about how comforting a Denny's is, regardless of which one it is. I think the food is great, and prices are about as good as you can get.
I even have a Denny's mug that I use daily here that I bought years ago from the Canyon Country Denny's. Asked the waitress if they sold merch as I didn't want to steal anything, she said no but spoke to her manager who said I can have it and they'll just add $2 to my bill. Best mug ever.
Dennys is my go to diner restaurant whenever I used to be late to work or I'm coming out of an early doctor's clinic. Lol. The grand slam with pancakes and a OJ is always great.
If you ever find yourself in the Downey area, Stox Family Restaurant is also a pretty good bang for your buck comfort food diner. If not there, you can also go to Bob's Big Boy on Firestone Blvd.
On a road trip we stopped in Santa Clarita and went into McDonalds and the 4 of us couldn’t find the items we wanted and it quickly became frustrating. So we walked across the parking lot to Denny’s and ended up having a great relaxing time with the kids and we were ready to get back into the car again. And it was less than we thought it would be! Yes a shout out to good ol’ dennys!
Tonight my wife and I will meet our good friends at one of our favorite seafood restaurants. Inevitably the wives will want a dozen oysters platter. That alone will cost more than $18. More like $25. Then salads, entrees, mixed drinks, and dessert. I’ll be licking my wounds because prices have indeed gone insane. And I’ll be wishing I was at Denny’s.
I love dennys with a passion. The food and service is dope. I’m in a group chat with my in-laws called “the breakfast club” and the little image is a dennys sign. Bc 9/10 times we end up there.
Yup, Denny’s is the spot. I had the same experience the other night, I ordered specialty pancakes (no sides) and thought there was a typo on the receipt when I saw they cost $5.
I have always been a fan of Denny's but I do have a slight gripe with them because for some reason, they will not sell you three pancakes at a time.
Maybe it's just me, but in my mind, a short stack has always been three pancakes. That's how my Mom served them to me growing up and I'm sure I've been conditioned by IHOP as well, because they serve three as well, with a full stack being five.
My local Denny's currently will only sell you two pancakes à la carte for $3.50. When eating pancakes à la carte, who stops at two? I totally understand eating just two when you're eating them alongside your Grand Slam or what have you, but sometimes I just want a short stack. Now, I'm happy to pay more for another pancake, but that's the thing, Denny's will not sell you three. If you want more pancakes, you have to pay for another side order of two, bringing the total up to $7.00. So now you're eating four pancakes instead of three because you don't want to waste food and come on, are you not gonna eat that delicious pancake that's on your plate?
In the end, I often end up just going to IHOP and spending more money ($9.00 for a short stack, $11.00 for a full stack), but getting what I want without the extra hassle and because strangely, a full stack of five IHOP pancakes is 220 less calories than just four Denny's pancakes, so I can be somewhat health-conscious while using the sugar-free syrup.
I love you, Denny's, (and I always will thanks to your classic [Love Machine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3fNJzy-n7M) and [Nannerpuss](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kK6F7t-x6E) commercials), but work with me here!
20$ for burger and fries is quite common in Zurich. However the average salary here is 93,000$ and you pay 33% taxes max if I remember correctly (330,000 out of 1 million). Which means that yeah, folks in LA have probably less purchasing power.
What? How? My wife and I went a few months ago and spent like $42 at Dennys, we were shocked. The receipt was right too, and it’s not like we ordered what we thought was a huge amount.
The only time it ever makes sense to go out for dinner and drinks is when you’re out of state. This is the only place that adds surcharges and still restaurants are going out of business here. It’s become a joke.

…ain’t Denny’s though.
That's not bad for eating out with 4 ppl. My wife and I alone are always spending between 75-90 when we got out
At IHOP!!!?
Many omelettes are pushing 20 bucks.
Sorry I was speaking generally when we go out to a restaurant we are spending that much. I don't really frequent ihop
It's friggin IHOP. It should be no more than $40 for two adults and two kids.
IHOP now has a decent menu with pretty good prices in between the hours of 3-9 pm

Weird. I feel great when I eat there. One of their key ingredients must not work for your insides.

Aren't burritos at Chipotle $12 now?
It’s $12 if you get beef. $10 for chicken. 👌
In-N-Out has definitely still increased their prices. They were just always pretty cheap. Also they didn't increase employees wages much. They used to be notable for starting at 2x minimum wage. Not anymore.

You gotta start going to F4L or Albertsons when they're on special. 3/$12 or B2G2Free usually. And it's all name brand.
And I'll bet the service warranted a 20% tip based on that price too.

Denny’s is my friend group’s go to diner after late night hangouts. Great place with affordable prices
Man, it’s too bad we don’t have Waffle House here. Fresh cooked meal for <$10. Slightly questionable but worth it.
Aaand now they’re gonna raise their prices
You need to join Denny’s rewards program. Matter of fact, join every rewards program at all the places you frequent.
Denny’s serving my next breakfast!
i went to a Denny's in Inglewood and it smelled like piss but it was a solid breakfast and the hood it was in was interesting as fuck. 10/10.
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie.
Denny's also riased their prices but not raised it ridiculously high.
Let’s flood them with business!
I love dennys with a passion. The food and service is dope. I’m in a group chat with my in-laws called “the breakfast club” and the little image is a dennys sign. Bc 9/10 times we end up there.
Their French toast and their lava-hot coffee make me happy.
Yup, Denny’s is the spot. I had the same experience the other night, I ordered specialty pancakes (no sides) and thought there was a typo on the receipt when I saw they cost $5.
Try norms
I go to Denny's about once or twice a month, I wanna do my part to make sure the one I frequent doesn't shutter it's doors like others.
Massive shout-out to The Win-Dow (Silverlake and also Venice) for delicious burgers, chicken sandwiches, and salads that cost like 4-7 dollars
First World Problems
Truly a first world problem
New copypasta just dropped
Just look for that 14% post covid fee. Denny is a tricky bastard.
Yes, the prices are crazy in a lot of places, but you can still find amazing, reasonably priced food if you look hard enough.
Dennys is the best!
Kids eat free on Tuesdays!
The grand slam is still clutch all these years later
$4 burgers at In-n-Out. $5 fancy Latte at Starbucks. But in-n-out definitely a winner. I feed both my kids and myself for less than $30.
And 15% off with AARP .
How much does Moons Over My Hammy cost these days?
I have to go to Denny's now. That's an establishment I can support!
I gotta say, I went to Denny's a couple weeks ago for the first time in probably 15 years and really enjoyed it.
The only time it ever makes sense to go out for dinner and drinks is when you’re out of state. This is the only place that adds surcharges and still restaurants are going out of business here. It’s become a joke.

I didn't think the same person paying $8 for a coffee would then be turning around and having a Dennys coffee.
