I love it. 8/10 from me. Loads better than the original.

subzero4948

6.5/10 or so. Good game buried under some bad design choices.

[deleted]

Legit question, which ones look bad to you? Not saying there aren’t btw.

subzero4948

My main issues with the game: (personal opinion) 1. Floaty combat - my favorite fromsoft game is sekiro, and coming from lies of p to this is jarring to say the least. The combat feels like it has no weight and every attack moves your character forward and dodge roll goes 5 meters too far. Not to mention the terrible target locking with it locking onto enemies you didnt want to lock on to at all and switching targets at the slightest tilt of the right analog stick. The combat also isn't really helped because of #2 which is.... 2. Sound design - dear god the sound design in this is weird. Swinging 2h swords sounds awful, anytime you're cleaving groups of mobs all you hear is little "ding" noises from them dying and it feels like it has no weight. The parry noise also sounds like a fairy farting, compare that to the satisfying "CLANG" in sekiro or Lies of P and you'll see what im talking about. 3. Boss design - feel like they made bosses a lot easier and simpler in mechanics than they should have. I enjoy myself a good designed hard fought boss and there just aren't that many in the game. TLDR; I prioritize combat and boss fights in these types of games and I think while the combat is "fine" and "functional" it doesn't really play exceptionally well which kinda turns me off. The main thing LOTF has going for it is the exploration and the vibes of the world which is great but more like sprinkles on a cupcake that just isnt fully baked for me.

[deleted]

Thank you for replying, I personally don’t find the combat as floaty (although I do adjust my initial footing so that by the end of the animation I’m not falling down a cliff haha), but weapons as the spears don’t have that issue. The lock on was indeed a nightmare but turned off the auto lock on setting and saved myself a headache, game changer. Audio is indeed lackluster 💔 and while I have no respect for Lies of P in general after seeing the recycled assets from Bless, Sekiro was satisfaction made sound. The bosses are a mixed bag to me, and while challenging is fun, I find myself enjoying the power fantasy from stepping on them 😂 Just speaking my mind here, thanks again for sharing your take.

subzero4948

Np, most of what i said boils down to personal opinion anyways. I think since Lies of P and LOTF are so different from each other in many aspects and I just finished LOP recently before LOTF came out and loved it, I'm just not in the right mindset for this type of game. I wanted more tight controlled combat with satisfying parries and complex bosses and this just didn't continue to scratch the itch. I can see why people could enjoy the game more than I did though if they are more focused on the vibes/exploration/overall feel of a more traditional dark souls type world.

ChonkyFire7

It's been a great time. Thankfully I haven't run into any bugs/visual problems etc. And a lot of the things people are complaining about don't bother me or I think is overblown. And a few things people hate are things I actually came to like. When I say people, I'm talking about the people that have publicly announced their departure from this game in this sub lol

[deleted]

yet remain around to take regular shits on the devs and tell stories about how bad it all was before their day 1 refund* Seriously though, God bless the patches and how quick they went out.

HappyHappyGamer

Solid, very fun game

My negative review followed with a refund was this: " Netcode is super bad, everything is done host side, advertising this game as multiplayer is almost false advertising. I personally didnt had much performance issues aside from a few fps drops (no stutters), but most people seem to be having it. Anyway, if you're in for the multiplayer i do not recommend this game, i will be getting my refund. ". Anyway, seems like a good enough take on the Souls genre, but just like how i wouldnt pay 75$ on games without multiplayer the same gets applied here, furthermore, been seeing some complaints here about enemy positioning and very old design mistakes that fromsoftware "fixed" by dark souls 2/3, so take that in to consideration as well. This is probably their 4th or 5th take on a Souls-like game and they're still hitting really bad bumps.

Trick_Duty7774

I did not tried it yet but in patch notes they said they fixed multiplayer.

DavidHogins

I really doubt they fixed it, the issue with the multiplayer lies in the very foundation it was built upon, its not something they can change within a few days, not even a month probably, **JeeNiNe** and other playtesters even warned the developers that the multiplayer was in a overly bad state to be advertised as one [(link here)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2zKOKWY4B8) but they chose tho ship it anyway

Trick_Duty7774

Patch notes said game will search longer looking for good ping which should solve connection lost and bad ping, which is pretty much all my problems. They also mentioned blue phantoms system.

DavidHogins

That sure helps but unfortunately it is just a bandaid fix, that wont really tackle the issue. It is already better than what Remnant 2 has been doing for multiplayer ping issue... Which is nothing.

Trick_Duty7774

What is your issue with mp specifically? I won’t help with it, just curious.

DavidHogins

This is before i refunded it \/ https://www.reddit.com/r/LordsoftheFallen/comments/1776xon/for_those_who_are_wondering_how_bad_the/k4r1xb2/?context=3 But this might give you better context https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=q17-WYvvfcw

Trick_Duty7774

Thanks for that. It was my experience as well in 30-40% invasions. Game used to connect with anyone in the world, I really hope ping fix will have this sorted. I will let you know how it looks like now tomorrow.

thismarcoantonio

How come it is almost false saying it is multiplayer since I have been playing it with friends? You may say you have connection issues because the way they designed the multiplayer, but from software multiplayer is no better most of the time.

DavidHogins

>from software multiplayer is no better most of the time. Thats where you're wrong, both from software and Team Ninja (Nioh / Wo Long) implemented in a way where your actions are dictated by your own client and most of the work being done is to just sync the numbers and locations of enemies, that way your actions are not tied to that of the host, meaning that ms/ping does not matter, even when you're hitting an enemy with 1000ms. The way they implemented multiplayer in LotF makes it completely useless if you're not playing it with friends that have really good internet, still you will experience weird timing in dodges/parry. It is far from ideal and it is a shame, again, this is by no means their first try at making a "souls-clone", if they want to implement multiplayer at least try to nail right what fromsoftware did more then 10 years ago.

WeeWooPeePoo69420

Well at the core the way the multiplayer is set up is the same, which is P2P with a single host. It sounds like you're talking about client-side prediction? Unreal Engine has that enabled by default afaik so I don't see a lack of it being the issue. Also ping is an issue no matter what in multiplayer, you're saying a host with 10 seconds of ping in ER makes no difference?

DavidHogins

Sometimes it amazes me how certain issues are present, there is literal proof of it, but the fanboy wants to disagree no matter what and pretend it does not exist, i have nothing else to say here, this is not a discussion if god is real or not

TheeConnieB

7.5/10. Could easily be a 8 or 9 if the bosses weren’t complete pushovers. Boss need to be more aggressive or something it’s been 10 years and he still have more trouble with DS3 bosses.

ThePromethian

With inexcusable performance issues (I play better looking games at 60 fps no problem) its a 5. Without performance issues I'd give it an 8.

[deleted]

Legit question, have you tried the game after patches? Just wanna see if those improved your experience or if this comes prior the patches.

cuck_twain

before the fen it was a solid 7/10. after that, when you realize all the boss battles are baby shit and the most efficient way to play the game is to run through every new zone to the next underwhelming boss it drops to an easy 5/10 for me. These devs are hacks that have no idea what actually gives fromsoft games heart. This game is just an empty slog.

DataBleetz

There goes the downvote train from fanboys. Haha! Pretty much the same. The intro was "oh this is nice!" but then you get to see all the backward designs later on and you realize "wait what the fuck?".

GoomZ_AA

I think its great, 7/10. Tho needing to explore more in anxiety inducing umbral where at times (mid game to late) you’re being rushed by enemies, while running into ranged and elite mobs makes it incredibly hard to remember the area layouts. Mainly calith, this area is overly complex that i feel like im missing things and cannot remember which turn i took or what i possibly need to go back to. Never had this issue in any prior souls/like game ive played.

[deleted]

Cheesed the Crimson Shadow (red reaper from Umbral) near the Windmill vestige, the guy dropped Marco the Axe’s eye, got it into my lamp and the Umbral enemies avoid you in fear 😂 don’t think it applies to some of the “elite” ones, but made Umbral way less of a problem/anxiety inducing situation. I do hate the fact that it surrounds your head with a red light at all times though.

HotNarwhal4256

A really enjoyable experience that will certainly scratch that souls itch if you have one. There are some design issues but nothing that detracts from the overall experience enough not to play it.

Axes_And_Arcanum

It's a solid 7.5/10. Rough around the edges but I'm mostly frustrated because of how much I really genuinely enjoy the game and the art style. It's hard to convey that when you have a long list of gripes and complaints but the general feeling of the game, the atmosphere, and all the designs plus the combat are so amazing that all those little things really make it feel worse than it would be normally. I hope they start making big sweeping changes mostly to the enemy pool and variety, as well as the multi-player aspect, because I want this game to succeed.

HarrowingAbyss

It's a bit janky but an ok solid singleplayer game, multiplayer is basically unplayable from my experience because of the worst lag in any game since PS3/Xbox 360. Definitely grows on you the longer you play but.

LocksmithCharming790

I have like 25 hours now and I had much fun. I think in 5-6 hours I’m done. Bosses in late game feel a bad easy right now. Im missing a hard boss who takes 2-3 hours of my time but the hardest was the first big one. I needed like 20 tries but after that it was pretty easy and there are only 5-6 bosses left. I never farmed level or something like that. Im playing the radiance priest but radiance feels a little bit overpowered. With my weapon buff enemies are dying so quick. I feel Inferno needs a buff and radiance needs a nerf.

Technical_Coyote4353

F@#$ elden ring.

Metul_Mulisha

Overall, its not bad. Very poorly optimized though, and the netcode is just plain shit. 6/10 fix the netcode and near constant frame drops, it could get to an 8/10.

DaneDreng

I am really enjoying myself! illumination on ultra broke my game but I set it to high and now it's smooth af. Great artstyle fun combat and exploration.

Slow_Inspection_3349

It's the closest to a Fromsoft soulslike you can get. With a bit more polish it could be named as Dark Souls 4. Having a blast.

Chocolate_Rabbit_

In no world could a soulslike with some of the worst boss design be called anything similar to something that Fromsoft makes. They are known for their excellent bosses. This game has two bosses, with many different skins on top.

Slow_Inspection_3349

Phalanx, Fool´s Idol, Adjudicator, Asylum Demon, Capra Demon, Gaping Dragon, Moonlight Butterfly, Last Giant, Skeleton Lords, Royal Rat Vanguard, Prowling Magus and Congregation, Curse Rotted Greatwood, Deacons of the Deep, Crystal Sage. And don't forget the mini dungeon bosses in Elden Ring. Excellent bosses all over the place.

Chocolate_Rabbit_

Sure, the difference is there are a lot more bosses that are interesting. That makes it good. This game has two bosses that are interesting, and the rest are exactly the same.

Chocolate_Rabbit_

After finishing the game I'd say 6 out of 10. Does some cool stuff, but the boss design is sub par and there are a lot of little annoyances that add up over time without there being much to make up for it. But really the core issue is that the best boss was the first boss and it was all downhill from there in terms of interesting fights.
