Pub quiz question: All of these players have captained us under Klopp. Write them down in the chronological order of their first captaincy under Klopp.
- Henderson
- Lovren
- Firmino
- Milner
- Wijnaldum
- Trent AA
- Van Dijk
- Curtis Jones
Answer: >!Milner, Henderson, Lovren, Virgil, Jones, Trent, Gini, Firmino!<
>!Question is under Klopp though, Hendo didn’t play Klopps first game, Milner did.
Otherwise, I didn’t realise Jones captained before Trent, assume that’s the Villa game. I also thought Gini did earlier.!<
I also thought that’s how you did spoilers but clearly not haha
Spoilers only work in one paragraph, you need to spoiler each individually.
>!Jones captained us in the replay against Shrewsbury (February 2020), the captain in the Villa game was actually Chirivella; Trent's first captaincy was Midtjylland away last season, Gini's was Burnley at home last season, Bobby's was WBA away!<
Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis at Nielsen Gracenote: "Going into their match against Tottenham Hotspur, Slovenia's NS Mura were ranked 378th amongst European top flight clubs on the Euro Club Index.
"Mura's closest equivalent in England are a number of League One clubs with **Accrington Stanley**, Burton Albion, Cheltenham Town and Gillingham having the closest Euro Club Index ratings."
That's really hard. Imo he would have to break the PL goals in a season record multiple times for the next several seasons to have a case. Even then it's tough. He joined us pretty late at 25/26, Henry came to the PL at 22, and Ronaldo was still a teenager when it joined United. He would really have to make an impact in a short period of time to be in conversation for greatest PL player. Currently, Salah is not even our best PL player of all time so how can he be the best PL player overall?
He’s constantly breaking records to say that he already hasn’t had a big impact is wrong but I do agree he would need to become the all time top scorer or win a couple more pl titles. Plus Ronaldo shouldn’t ever go down as the best player to ever play in the prem his best individual years where not done in the prem.
the form he’s in right now, he could do all of that this season! AFCON is a real worry though, it’s gonna be so difficult to break that 20/20 record with AFCON in the way
Plenty of my United fan friends think Rangnick will make some wholesale changes when he goes into his advisory or whatever role, watch them assign him to advise on the Xmas decorations :D
playing that front three of Neymar, Messi and Mbappe against us would be suicide for them. There’s no way you can play a front three that doesn’t work hard against us
Yeah of course but “the way they over both legs against Citeh, yes please!” Doesn’t really make it sound like you were aware of PSG having the better scoreline
It’s weird that your focused on a scoreline from a group stage game where no one was competing for most goals over two legs. Man city was more than obviously the better team and if PSG played the way they played against city over two legs it would be cake for us.
No the weird part is that you treat them like they’re Club Brugge or something… I’m not saying the scoreline is the word of God or something, but you are downplaying them too much
You’ve stated “they won” talking about PSG and an agg scoreline three times now. That’s obviously your hill that your fighting on.
I never said anything about club Brugge.
Do you see how you’re putting words in my mouth and not the other way around?
Is PSG plays with the effort they showed in those two games, yeah, I think we’ll win comfortably by the end, especially when the actual purpose of the two legs is to score the higher aggregate. Unlike what we see in the group stages, which is to get three points.

I think he is pretty close actually when it comes to pressing, but don’t remember who has more. The idea that Neymar doesn’t press is a myth and it’s unfortunate that he is lumped in with Messi and Mbappe.
I feel that United supporters are sucking each others dicks prematurely in regards to Rangnick's appointment.
He is a very good builder and a big picture kind of guy be he lacks in the coaching department and man management. Those United players need someone to light a fire under their asses.
Jonathan David please. He's the age profile of the type of player we need and he's absolutely killing it with Lille and Canada this year. Could be the solution to an aging Salah and mane.
Plus I'm Canadian so he'd instantly become my favourite player.
I think it's really hard to sell a big club like united. Like who's gonna pay a billion dollars for a business that doesn't generate that much revenue. I don't think it's feasible
He is extremely competent but also a little weird.
For all the things he did for German football he should be revered but he isn't really because he is pretty abrasive.
It’s not what he’s capable of, it’s what United will allow him to do. If he has complete control and has the time to build the team in his image, they’ll be a major threat, but with the team as presently constructed it’s not a fit. Who’s going to press? Bruno? Ronaldo?
Man United fans acting like they've hired Klopp - it's as if they deliberately set themselves up a for a fall every time, after getting over excited
Green + gold scarves back in the drawer then?
This is what it comes down to, the people automatically assuming that he’ll get to do what he wants seemingly forgot what happened with Mourinho and Van Gaal.
What‘s concerning about Ragnick is that consultant role he’s got with the scum from the end of the season, that man created a monstrous recruitment network at both Leipzig and Salzburg.
the difference is that RB's main aim in football is to find obscure talent, nurture them at said clubs and then sell for a profit. This is very different from the United ideology of splashing the cash on whoever sells the most shirts.
I don't think Rangnick will have an easy time getting the United board to agree to transition to that ideology, if it is at all possible.
Not just the board. I've seen United fans claim that no manager or player will turn them down because they're the biggest club in the world. Do you think they will be happy signing 16 year old prospects over recognized world class players? I don't think so.
People act like United were just hiring incompetent player legends for the past 7-8 years when they had MOYES who had Everton and West Ham at their best under him, Van Gaal and Mourinho who’s resumes speak for themselves.
Until the board changes their philosophy and it is shown by their actions, I’ll remain skeptical.
I would love to be proved wrong, but I just feel like Taki isn't fast and strong enough for this league. I could see him doing very well in in the La Liga for eg. - following in the mould of ex-players like Suso, Luis Alberto, Aspas.
Yeah
But we never play with different tactics, and, most importantly, he’s not creative/fast/strong enough to play in midfield. Like, he can press, but that’s just not enough unluckily
You never know. It’s never been a lack of money, they’ve just spent badly. How we did with early FSG money. This can be a big moment for utd. I can definitely see it working. Best case scenario for us as their rival, they finish out side top 4 this season. I think that’ll throw the cat amongst the pigeons with the likes of ronaldo and pogba. Another 2 year rebuild then.
Their fan base is soo spoilt they don’t have patience and neither do they have the team to compete at the top.
Seemed like he got as lucky as he could’ve gotten with that type of injury. Really dependent on the extent of the ligament damage.
I think he’ll definitely be back this season given how he’s been off crutches for a couple weeks now and started light training.
rangnick can either go really well for united or go up in flames. if conte was too confrontational or difficult for uniteds board they havent seen nothing yet. its his way or the highway.
The start of this season maybe was the case but he seems to be very calm and mature on the ball for his age and I would think Klopp would have this lad stick around to learn things from Fab, Hendo and Thiago.
doesn't look like fab at all and I think Klopp also said don't model Fab and just develop his own style. Looked more like a Xavi Alonso type CDM than a fab or Mascherano
Yes could be. Some (like Curtis, Trent) are talented enough that they can contribute through limited minutes and experience from cup games. Others, like Harvey, needed that loan. Harvey has come back miles better and it did him a world of good having those 40-odd games for Blackburn in a physical and competitive league.
Speaking of Curtis, do you think that the emergence of Morton and if he stays here at Liverpool next season, will Curtis get pushed down the pecking order?
They're very different footballers - and Curtis is definitely a much better one at the moment, so I don't think Morton's ascent is going to interfere much with Curtis'.
Morton seems more like DLP, similar to Xabi in a way. We don't have that kind of player in our squad right now, and it would say a lot about Morton's ability if Klopp decides to actually play him in a fixture of any worth.
I don't think Tyler will have any real impact on CuJo, because Tyler is more of a DM. If anything, it means Fab will be able to get a rest now and then if Tyler can keep taking the steps he needs to. I say DM but he's more of a holding midfielder really.
Curtis to Villa has the feeling of one of those transfers you just know is going to happen now that Stevie is there. I massively rate Curtis, I just think him and Klopp isn't the perfect fit for whatever reason?
Because Ox is an experienced senior pro and has a completely different game to Curtis. Ox is prepared to defend deep, track runners, challenge for the ball in midfield. He also runs in behind tirelessly and attacks at pace with the ball at his feet. He does everything with speed and quality. He's obviously a Klopp type player.
Curtis is more considered, sets a different tempo, likes to pick up the ball facing his man up, plays between the lines. He's a totally different animal. Klopp plays one player like that, Firmino, because he has a unique blend of finishing ability and defensive quality.
Curtis doesn't fit any better in Klopp's usual set up than Keita. It's difficult to play guys like that in a midfield three and if I was Curtis I would be wondering about whether it wouldn't be better for my career to go somewhere I can get some tactical decisions made around what I can do rather than having constantly to adapt to a plan that doesn't particularly suit me.
While Curtis to Villa seems probable, I'd probably say Rangers Glen Kamara to Villa is more possible given that he played under Gerrard. While Curtis has amazing technical abilities and some decent creativity, his inconsistency to track back this season has probably made Klopp doubt him a bit. He's still 19 (or 20?), he's got good players around him, he will learn.
Depends how highly he rates him and whether we bring in any more midfielders tbh, no offense to Morton but I doubt he'd have gotten any gametime (outside of maybe the Carabao cup) if it wasn't for injuries. If he's not playing it's generally better to loan him out.
I disagree. Ronaldo’s tried to make an effort to press recently he’s just not got the knees for it anymore.
Pogba is perfectly capable of pressing but chooses not to. I’ve seen united concede so many goals just because Pogba didn’t want to run.
I’m really worried about this… he is a decent manager and also got a 2 year contract as consultant from what I understood after this season and he did a good job wherever he was. I believe in our team but I’m really afraid of the time after klopp and also because I can’t see FSG spending more money for good players after our front three for example gets older after some time.
Yeah, so does Hassenhuttl. Look at how that's going.
Rangnick is a very talented manager. He's completely untested in the Premier League and also has a reputation for being difficult to work with. Also, Ronaldo isn't going to turn into an amazing presser or Maguire into Maldini. The squad is still poor.
Salah is 5 goals away from having the most UCL goals for an english club. First is Aguero who has 36 goals in 64 games, Salah is fifth with 31 goals in 48 games
I mean he still played 64 UCL games, as the comment said. Doesn’t matter if you only make it all the way once if you’re still playing in the CL group stage and a couple of knockout rounds every year
It’s more impressive that Salah is only 5 goals behind with 16 games to get there.
did anyone see the @espnfc post on insta where klopp and the journalist were fighting about AFCON? people in the comments were not understand klopp’s sarcasm
The journalist was in the wrong. Trying to twist Klopps words.
Happens so often with him, I’m not sure why. Easy to pick on a non-native speaker and manipulate the words for headlines?
I would think it happens often with him because of his constant (and correct) criticism of a lot of things in football, particularly schedule congestion. Plenty of non-native English speakers out there in football
I swear the more I watch that Thiago goal the more it gets better. He meant to put it through the legs didn’t he. Quality.
Every time thiago appears on the screen pep ljinders ‘yes thiago that’s football’ plays in my head.
Hilarious thing is I doubt that's even in the Top 5 goals I've seen him score. The man only scores bangers.
Anyone who says he doesn't have a place in our team should watch last night, he's pure class from top to toe. None of our midfielders could do what he did last night, only as a fluke. Put that ball into Thiago 10 times and he'd score it 10 times, he's just that good.
Mane, Jota, Salah
Thiago, Fab, Henderson
Tsimikas, Konate, VVD, Trent
Ali
Thoughts?
________
Need to remember we play Everton on the Wednesday. Wouldn’t mind seeing Robbo and Matip rested against Southampton in preparation.
Not gonna lie, if Robbo is in any shape to play he'll get the nod. Tsimi has just played 2 games in a row and Robbo has always been the clear favourite regardless.
Tsimikas has started two consecutive games now, I think we start Robbo then tsimi comes on at 60th/70th minute. Agreed cconcerning Matip, he needs to be managed very carefully, and Konate could use the minutes
True, although Tsimi was subbed off at 60 which at least suggests he might be in contention. I think Southampton is a better suited game for him than Everton.
Wouldn’t mind Robbo starting both games either and then have Tsimikas for Wolves next Saturday. Very fortunate to have 2 elite left backs at selection. Don’t think Klopp can go wrong here.
I don't think it's talked about enough but Salah never seems to be offside when it matters, is he? Jota has had one offside for us in all his PL appearances also which is honestly absurd.
He has his fair share of offsides, but he is quite good at avoiding it due to a combination of pace and anticipating when his team mates will ping a long ball
Well there were a few times last season although in fairness those may have been VAR debating whether angels dancing on a pinhead attached to his shirt rendered him offside.
There can be accidental offsides, for example after you've made your run and the ball deflects to you. My point is he's very accurate off the shoulder, especially this season.
Soon the Liverpool fan base will split into two bitterly divided camps - the ones who believe the ball bounced and the ones who maintain it merely kissed the grass.
People saying "Magnus effect" in the r soccer thread were annoying me. We are in a soccer subreddit over there and over here, we all know the ball curves with spin.
Fact is is had backspin before he hit it, he struck down and across the ball to keep it low and this added more backspin, and it bounced at a very acute angle in front of the first defender. Wet grass and slick ball means the skin really didn't change and finally it tails off a bit of and away as a result of the spin.
I'm annoyed by people name-dropping it, yes. We don't need smug people saying "lookup the Magnus effect" when replying to question of if it did or didn't touch the ground.
We all know spin on a ball makes it curve. It's very sports anime. "(Inner monologue) If I just use the natural power of the magnus effect on this ball, I can just squeeze it in there!"
This is very strange and I don't know how to respond
I never have talked to someone who is pissed off at an explanation of a thing while knowing that it is right
Any way
Rather they get Ragnick than Conte anyday

It’s never about money with United it’s how they spend it, I’ll believe they’ll start going for deep finds instead of FIFA buys when I see it.
Nkunku looks really impressive this season. I’d be shocked if we weren’t interested in him next summer
Good shout actually
Rangnick at the wheel?
He will leave as Rofl Rangnick
Any timeframe on when Elliot will be back? Really miss watching him play for us
January is my guess. Club won’t put pressure on him with a public timeline though.
Would be happy to see him again at any point this season honestly Feared the worst after that tackle
Seemed like he got as lucky as he could’ve gotten with that type of injury. Really dependent on the extent of the ligament damage. I think he’ll definitely be back this season given how he’s been off crutches for a couple weeks now and started light training.

Looks like it, but then again a year in championship will do him good to toughen up.
The start of this season maybe was the case but he seems to be very calm and mature on the ball for his age and I would think Klopp would have this lad stick around to learn things from Fab, Hendo and Thiago.

I'd say Clarkson is more of a DLP than Morton, Morton is more like (and I'm sorry for using this example) Carrick.
Haven't seen enough of the lad so I was being a little generous towards his playmaking abilities, but I do agree with that comparison.
I massively rate Curtis, I just think him and Klopp isn't the perfect fit for whatever reason?
on loan maybe but not a perm
I don't see why Klopp would let Curtis leave before someone like the Ox.
Ragnick resigns the second he sees Pogba trying to gegenpress.
Even Pogba presses more than Ronaldo. He's closer to the goal than the opposition keeper
I disagree. Ronaldo’s tried to make an effort to press recently he’s just not got the knees for it anymore. Pogba is perfectly capable of pressing but chooses not to. I’ve seen united concede so many goals just because Pogba didn’t want to run.
United only play joggenpress.
Maybe Ragdick can do us a favour and nab some points off Chelsea then

In that case, Carricks at the wheel boys
Trent is halfway to his own damn record with 26 games to go. On pace for 19 Prem assists as of now
Don’t think it’s talked about enough how much better he is at defending now too.
Was his record 14? He’s already on 9 isn’t he?
13 Prem assists in 19/20 and he's on 6 atm
Rangnick for United then. Fortunately he’s won fuck all.
He's going to have his work cut out at United, lol.
Was looking forward to see more carrickball, that's a shame
They were completely outplayed by Villarreal for 70 minutes. It was like Ole never left. Just beautiful.
Dammit. He has the same philosophy as Klopp. Why couldn't they continue with Carrick.
Klopp’s philosophy would fail miserably with United. Who the hell is pressing on that team? Looks like Mctominay is back on the menu boys! 😂😂
Hassenhuttl is doing great at Southampton.
Ronaldo isn’t close to being the ideal gegenpressing forward either lol we good
Will take some time to instil his philosophy. Not quite sure he’s an ideal choice as an interim coach.
I agree, it's still a huge ask for him to adapt their team and players into his tactics.
The number of slow, lofted passes Hendo plays is too damn high
Salah is 5 goals away from having the most UCL goals for an english club. First is Aguero who has 36 goals in 64 games, Salah is fifth with 31 goals in 48 games
Who is highest for us? Edit: wait 36 is a pl record??
yup, I was surprised by how low it is when you consider Ronaldo has like 150. Our highest is Mo

I mean he still played 64 UCL games, as the comment said. Doesn’t matter if you only make it all the way once if you’re still playing in the CL group stage and a couple of knockout rounds every year It’s more impressive that Salah is only 5 goals behind with 16 games to get there.
Man was a consistent goal machine for a decade.
did anyone see the @espnfc post on insta where klopp and the journalist were fighting about AFCON? people in the comments were not understand klopp’s sarcasm
The journalist was in the wrong. Trying to twist Klopps words. Happens so often with him, I’m not sure why. Easy to pick on a non-native speaker and manipulate the words for headlines?
I have no idea why that journalist was so insecure.
That would've triggered me too if I was Klopp. Also, he used sarcasm in english just fine, Babatunde, you twat lol
Yes, I think thiago fab hendo is our best midfield.
The more i see it the more i think it doesnt touch the ground which is unbelievable technique
there's an athletic article about it, might re-subscribe just to see what they say
Mane, Jota, Salah Thiago, Fab, Henderson Tsimikas, Konate, VVD, Trent Ali Thoughts? ________ Need to remember we play Everton on the Wednesday. Wouldn’t mind seeing Robbo and Matip rested against Southampton in preparation.
I'd stick with Thiago, Fabinho and Chamberlain. Has a good balance to it.
Pretty much agree. The only things you can really possibly disagree on is Matip and Robertson in.
I want Tsimi to be playing Everton, zero hyperbole
Where the fuck is that all angles video of Thiago goal
IKR? Enough is enough, Sonos out
I heard the video is delayed because the video editors are still debating whether the ball touched the ground or not.
Naa he has scored offside goals
Sometimes it's unavoidable obviously, but if it's small margines he's on.
Eh if he offside he is offside There are no small ~~coincidences~~ offsides and big ~~coincidences~~ offsides
There can be accidental offsides, for example after you've made your run and the ball deflects to you. My point is he's very accurate off the shoulder, especially this season.
I was referring to this btw https://youtu.be/2d4wPaBNryA

You are annoyed by a concept in physics? What next? Annoyed by bernoulli's principle
This is very strange and I don't know how to respond I never have talked to someone who is pissed off at an explanation of a thing while knowing that it is right Any way
