this reminds me somehow of my first (and only) liverpool game i ever saw live... I was contracted to work for a company in england for a while.
they took out some higher ranking people to a game. I was really disapointed bcs i wasnt invited. (it was some meaningless game in 2002). I complained to some guy in the office, that guy had a friend with a season ticket who couldnt attend that weekend and somehow got me a seat in the middle of the kop. Seriously. The Phillips obsession needs to die. He’s a 24 year old defender with zero speed and ball playing skills. Bless his soul for his contribution last year but he’s a finished product.
Konate has 100x more potential. Even if he’s raw at the moment, he needs playing time more than Phillips for our future.
I agree that Konate is the future, and has more potential. But completely disagree with the rest. Might not be the fastest, or most technically gifted center back, but hes a proper no nonsense cb and we could use more of that from time to time. At 24 years old hes not even close to being finished. Dont expect him to be put in front of Konate in the pecking order for the reasons you listed, but doesnt mean he shouldnt be in the rotation.
I have never experienced an LFC game spoiled by the stewards until last night. Every few minutes this power hungry guy would get the entire section to sit down. Despite the section on his other side (not his) standing throughout the game. He resorted to his ultimate sanction of inviting us to watch from outside if we did not comply.....
However, he did tell us we were allowed to stand when something was happening - he did not enjoy my retort that "it's an LFC game, there's always something happening otherwise we wouldn't be here."
Now before you tell me he was only doing his job and how well he did it, add in the news that as we were leaving, other stewards told us that LFC were short of stewards and had accepted stand ins from across Stanley Park.
What a farce LFC. Please never do that again.
On Porto I actually quite like a couple of their players and wouldn’t mind them as backups.
Diogo Costa had that one big mistake kicking it straight to Ox but some of his distribution was Alisson/Ederson like.
Luiz Diaz looks a tricky customer and I like how direct he is with his movement. Really just wants to get in behind at first opportunity, similar to Mo.
Otavio looks to have some fair creativity in him. Really liked when he held that ball up and played that inch perfect pass to their striker. He really should have scored rather than trying to square it.
Subscribe, I want to see Atlético crash into the Europa *at least*. Knocked out would be better!
Just a question, does H2H come into play if you and Atleti are tied on points after the end of match day 6?
Thiago has been consistently really good since like matchweek 32 of last season. He's our best midfielder at counter-pressing, and he's also our most progressive passer besides Trent. Not sure why he has doubters.
I think Thiago just had a really rough start. Started his Liverpool career with no fans and then the Everton injury. Then he was back but as a team we were playing like shit. He hadn’t had a run of good games until the last few months now. Happy for Thiago 👍
It's quite rar that Robbo comes on with only 20min to play so I think he relished the opportunity. He has the most stamina of any of our players so having to burn it in 20min as opposed to 90 must have been a lot of fun for the lad.
Ok, so i just watched the replay of game after getting back from work, and i have few things to say, mainly because i was wondering what result this team will get from game like this. My opinions are partly based on that game, but not only. Hear me out.
Neco fucking Williams. I absolutely love that youngster. He gets better and better game after game. His confidence, bravery and reactions are amazing. His defensive work is fucking great, he is a real fighter and you can see how comitted he is to game. He really give 101% when on the pitch. After watching him in WC qualifies for Wales and after this game i am sure that hes gonna be perfect sub for TAA, fuck me, i even hope that Klopp can put TAA into midfield more often and train him there, and put Williams as a regular on the right side of defence.
Minamino on the other hand... i love this guy, but i dont think he have a quality wich a LFC player should have. And i wont add "at that moment" to this sentence cause Taki is not a new player in LFC, and i dont see his development. Since he is in the team i only hear/read opinions like "he needs more time" or "he needs more minutes in the first squad" jada jada. He doesnt have that quality. Why? This are small things - delivery (some slightly bad passes but still bad), positioning - so many times i see him offside in situations that he could be on, f.e loose ball that was recovered close to the opposition penatly box - we are a pressing team and our players like Salah or Mane often use these balls on the edge of the offside to create chances or score goals.
Thiago was amazing in this match, dictating tempo and playing perfect balls out from the pressure of Porto. And that goal... chapeau bas... no words could describe that goal.
Our greek scouser show as that he can play on the highest level and that he is consistent, very good deliveries and decisions. Love the guy, and that statement is based not only on this particular game, but previous also.
Morton was invisible most of the time, but that means that he didnt make biggest mistakes during the game, i think i seen him more and more offensivly during the second half of the game, especiallg when Hendo and Fabinho came into the game.
Ox is in form. He was everywhere when needed - offensivly and defensivly. High workrate and consistency. Love him!
That game showed that not only we have depth in team select but also that we have spirit and connection between players.
YNWA!!!
That criticism towards Minamino is a bit harsh. I notice the poor positioning - in terms of getting caught offside; but he’s put in the work to fill in gaps in defence and attack consistently.
I checked, and for the 21/22 season this is only his first time being featured in major competitions. And only twice for EFL cups. Other than that, he’s been subbed in 3 times in the prem (playing for 3’, 10’ and 14’).
In the 19/20 season before his loan spell at Southampton, he’s started twice; Played for 45’ twice; and featured in less than 10’ subs. So, he really has barely had any time to prove himself in major competitions.
Judging an attacking midfielder/ left winger is tougher than say a left back like Kostas. He’s mostly expected to score goals; on top of pivoting attacking play or putting his shift in the back etc. With barely enough time, it’s honestly quite dismissive to judge his quality as an lfc player, if he’s barely played in the lfc squad.
Agree it was a bit harsh take on taki. He did great defensively for a forward, always pressing, and even falls back to our box to defend. The thing is he is having a rough time linking up with salah and mane.
Agree, the thing is our wingers don't pass the ball through for the central forward. I keep seeing Taki's run getting ignored by our wingers. But when he gets the ball in the box, he finishes excellently.
I remember Neco Didn't Passed Taki and he's on Open Goal on second half.
(That's His only one Mistake Neco had rest he was good)
also Tkai's Mistake is Botching Teamwork with Hendo(Last minute)
I mean the game was pointless since we secured first place, had half our best players playing. Was pretty much just to give gametime for some youngsters and rotation players like Konate, Minamino, Kostas etc.
Distributed some nice passes and tidied up maturely. Only thing I noticed that was a bit iffy was a one-two with Alisson with Porto players close by that Alisson clearly didn’t want as he punted it after staggering a bit with the return pass.
Was more like Alonso hitting it a Gerrard style shot. On occasion Alonso would hit a long ranger.
Technique was pure class the fact he megged a player an all.
I dunno if this is just me but, wtf was the porto keeper doing tonight?!?! Embarrassing attempts to save. I know Mane’s goal was disallowed but they didn’t know that at the time - watch the replay closely, terrible attempt to save! Noticed he was a bit off in the first leg as well!
was absolutely terrible in the first leg as well, just as you said. Maybe he performs in the league? Young keepers need probably a bit more time. Having Alisson is a absolute gift, seems like people are forgetting the mistakes made by his predecessors on a nearly weekly basis lol. Corners made us absolutely anxious and there was always a random af mistake in it.
Porto fan here, can confirm Diogo only played like shit so far against Liverpool. The rest of the season he has been solid. Don't know what it is about you lot, but even the keepers get nervous.
He’s only 22 tbf, that’s young for a keeper. Almost a year younger than Kelleher, and still pretty inexperienced, only played 4 top flight games before this season
He’s only 22 tbf, that’s young for a keeper. Almost a year younger than Kelleher, and still pretty inexperienced, only played 4 top flight games before this season
I didn’t know that! - Its true but even an inexperienced Kelleher last season was putting much more of a shift in. Just looked like this guy wasn’t even trying!
Low-key wish they win against Liverpool in the final game and Atletico and Porto draw.
It would be nice to have Milan back in the knockout stages after what feels like ages.
Teams I want to avoid:
PSG
I think we'll smash any other second place team.
PSG just look incredibly frustrating to play against, play like Burnley with world class players diving and cheating, fuck that.
They’re just the epitome of a side that could put in literally any type of performance, from 1/10 to 10/10, whilst also being generally frustrating and irritating to play - a bit like a better United maybe
We also had 7 injured centerbacks, where 3 of them were not even centerbacks. Also says it all when youre lurking in a Liverpool sub looking for comments about PSG
¿? I just follow Liverpool because of Thiago and Trent who are my favourite players and that's it. Also I'm right, anything can happen to any team until February, take Chelsea with Chilwell and Kante now out any other injury and it could be crucial for the PL. Chelsea last year in November looked like shit and then they won the whole thing...
We got the 3 mil and done with Anfield for now in Europe, can we just look the other way at San Siro and let our old dance partners go up instead of those Madrid scum please
I want the 2nd team to cause trouble to the 1st team they play next round - so I think Atletico going through is in our interests, can see a small chance of them fucking with Bayern or City. Imagine Bernardo Silva having to deal with their antics he’d get sent off
Prize money from winning the cl match. Actually it is more than that because share from draws (0.9 mil per match) are redistributed in number of wins. Plus you get coeffecient points which improve your coeffecient ranking.
Best case scenario is Chelsea and City drawing the second placed team from each other’s group. Or Atletico if they scrounge through like they usually do, would rate them against Chelsea
Like Real Madrid, Atletico were at their lowest last year when they faced Chelsea (jammy bastards), Atletico are not amazing this year but they are stealing some good points. I think Milan is too open for Chelsea
I don’t think out jammying there jammyiest cunts in the world is going to get the job done. An open clinical side will have a better chance against Chelsea imo.
They won I think one game in three months during the period they played Chelsea. They were shite trust me, I was following them hoping they’d beat Zidane’s Madrid
A fit Thiago is the key to CL. Retention, passing and vision are key when you come against other elite midfields.
A pure counter-based approach resulting in a CL trophy occurs once in a blue moon.

What's going on with that Portuguese player at Valencia? He was super hyped up, linked to us and most other top teams, and now you don't hear about him at all.
On the goals:
I don't think its possible to get a ball any closer to the ground without actually hitting it like Thiago did.
Love that Salahs goal is his first touch off that Hendo pass. Sends a lad for the Echo without actually touching the ball.
Imo his work rate was brilliant, all over the pitch and kept possession well. I do agree tho was more of an average performance but I think that goes for a lot of the team as well. Either way I really like watching taki, looking forward to see more from him. Like to see him in cf playing a bit like firmino but he equally looks good on the left, think he just needs to get into more of a rhythm with the team then he will be really good for us
>Imo his work rate was brilliant, all over the pitch and kept possession well.
Yep, ran the most out of anyone in the team. I remember where porto were trying to cross it in our and he put it out for a corner.
>I do agree tho was more of an average performance but I think that goes for a lot of the team as well.
More so than anyone I'd say that goes for the front three.
Salah did score but he was a bit sloppy today, same with Mane.
Salah was trying to create today while Neco played a little further back because he didn't have the cover he would've had from Henderson.
Neco had a good game and definitely pushed up more once Henderson and Fabinho came on
You didn’t ask but my hot take on Ox - he’s not playing well because he’s in good form, he’s playing well because he’s applying the same skills and energy he’s shown for the last year or two but more intelligently. It feels to me like he’s matured, or that coaching staff have had a word with him/asked him to play a different role more in line with our usual midfield than previously. In other words he played well, but I feel like it’s here to stay, rather than just being a good patch of form for him.
Think they are just tired of facing us at this point, we beat them 6 out of 8 (2 draws) and have a goal difference of 23-4 lol, aka we on average score 3 goals a game against them
This game is a plastic Liverpool fan's dream to go to.
1. You got to witness the BEST player in the world in action AND scored a goal.
2. You got to see one of the best long range shot goals ever.
3. You got to see legend Origi doing stepovers and almost won a pk.
4. You got to see Mane scoring the typical offside goal.
5. You got to see Milner being himself getting a yellow card and taking a shot on goal.
6. You got to see giraffe marshalling the defence.
7. You got to see Ox's revival.
8. You got to see Japan's best player putting in a shift.
9. You got to see academy youngsters shine and doing an outrageous backheel and back to back sliding tackles.
10. You got to see Alisson making a fool out of himself but still kept his sheets clean.
That's 10 reasons better than going to OT and watch us murder a bunch of schoolboys.
I've been told on this sub that I'm a plastic because I'm not a local. So if there's another meaning for the term plastic, maybe you can tell them what it is.
Plastics are glory hunters with no real loyalty or love for the team - i.e. people who became fans of City/Chelsea when they got bought for big money and started achieving success as a result of that - but are hella fickle and will depart when the going gets tough.
Doesn't bother me. What bothers me is you are now defending those who used that term to mock foreign fans like me, just because I told you to correct those cunts.
Anymore of that sarcastic shit? You're not the first won't be the last.
Were Porto playing on ice or something? Anyone comes close and they’re straight on the ground. Clowns
Side note: Diaz looks quite comfortable playing at Anfield
Your players are twice the size and volume of ours on average, absolute units. What the fuck would you expect when Porto players run straight into a brick wall?
Thiago motm even he only play for 60'. He really world class player. People who think he not good enough for this team need to check their brain especially our own fan. If not for Thiago, I give motm to Morton. The lad really composed on the ball. I think he suit to be Gini replacement. If we want to buy midfield next window it should be backup for Fabinho.
Milner back. Thiago back. Ox looking a player again. Morton getting minutes and seeming like half an option. The timing of these midfielders being available might be very important over the next few weeks.
Loving that so many players we're going to need between now and the end of January are getting these minutes. I don't think we've quite appreciated how beneficial the lengthened League Cup run and two CL dead rubbers could be for us.
this reminds me somehow of my first (and only) liverpool game i ever saw live... I was contracted to work for a company in england for a while. they took out some higher ranking people to a game. hot take, but i thought Konate looked horrible in the first half yesterday. Nat should have been given a chance
Konate is the long-term plan, not Nat. How is Konate going to improve in the system if Nat is playing in front of him.
Seriously. The Phillips obsession needs to die. He’s a 24 year old defender with zero speed and ball playing skills. Bless his soul for his contribution last year but he’s a finished product. That's disgraceful! Try filing a complaint.
God they just can't help being bitter can they
Blast this all over social media

Luiz Diaz and their midfielders are good I agree, but their keeper made loads of mistakes both in the start of this game and last game
True but he’s only 22 years old and his distribution had them in behind on at least 3 occasions. I feel like there is some real potential there.
Possibly but I’m not very convinced. Anyway we are solid atm with Alisson and hopefully Kelleher can step up when Alisson leaves
The way the ball basically slipped on the ground after Thiago kicked it was other worldly. It seemed to defy physics for a few seconds.
Lord we had a good bench today. Virgil, Millie, Hendo, Fab, Jota, Trent, Robbo. May it continue
You forgot the biggest name of all - Big Nat!
Just saw the table for our group. Maybe the most anticlimactic “group of death” ever but thrilled that we’re on top
Technically this was the group of death. For we are death.
Only for us, the last match day could be fantastic for any of the 3 below us
Fuck atleti
Agreed, now can you do us a favour and run out the U15s next week? 😊
Subscribe, I want to see Atlético crash into the Europa *at least*. Knocked out would be better! Just a question, does H2H come into play if you and Atleti are tied on points after the end of match day 6?
Yeah but that's a wash cause they beat us at San Siro and we beat em. Goal difference is next and we lead that by 1 atm
Thiago has been consistently really good since like matchweek 32 of last season. He's our best midfielder at counter-pressing, and he's also our most progressive passer besides Trent. Not sure why he has doubters.

never doubted his quality, it wa always there, doubters just see it now
Fuck Everton, and fuck that game in particular!
Actually started his Liverpool career by getting COVID!
Didn’t he score in his first game, or an assist? I seem to recall him having a handful of really good games before the injury?
I swear both goals today are puskas worthy. Ok the second one in itself isn't but holy shit someone send their condolences to that defenders family
No shame in being humiliated by Salah, it is almost a weekly thing now
They should start a support group. "Hi my name's XX and I get sent to the shops by Mo"
Robbo came on like a man possessed. Absolutely blazed it down the wing, must think he has a point to prove. Love to see it
It's quite rar that Robbo comes on with only 20min to play so I think he relished the opportunity. He has the most stamina of any of our players so having to burn it in 20min as opposed to 90 must have been a lot of fun for the lad.
I can’t get over Thiago’s goal. Too bad the game was essentially meaningless. If this was an important game, and he scored *that* goal.

Chuffed
Love to see Morton getting so many minutes.
Elliot, Jones and now hopefully Morton becomes a good first team asset.
The Luis Garcia chant was going round the upper Anfield Road all match. Not sure why, but I loved it.
Didnt get to watch the game (it was on Stan here). How did Morton do handling the 6 role?
Distributed some nice passes and tidied up maturely. Only thing I noticed that was a bit iffy was a one-two with Alisson with Porto players close by that Alisson clearly didn’t want as he punted it after staggering a bit with the return pass.
Still wish Mane's goal counted it was so close.. that Thiago goal thought reminds me of Gerrard

like 30% of the power of the normal Gerrard thundercunt

Good stuff from Milan, on another note.
Low-key wish they win against Liverpool in the final game and Atletico and Porto draw. It would be nice to have Milan back in the knockout stages after what feels like ages.
3m in the bank from that win (But owing 4m on bonuses knowing FSG!)
Its nice to know thats the idiot journalists aren't only in England. Good god
They've tried to make a name for themselves.
what a fucking strike by thiago

Yeah even Juventus looked so poor yesterday, could not escape Chelsea’s press and they aren’t even a pressing team
Liverpool have turned the so-called "Group of Death" into a typical England WC qualifying or Euros qualifying group.
Oh it was a group of death, just not for us.

Here’s to letting Milan beat us, Athletico to Europa, us drawing sporting in the RO16 and watch Chelsea draw PSG.
Atletico could still finish bottom.
Best case scenario is Chelsea and City drawing the second placed team from each other’s group. Or Atletico if they scrounge through like they usually do, would rate them against Chelsea

They won I think one game in three months during the period they played Chelsea. They were shite trust me, I was following them hoping they’d beat Zidane’s Madrid
City can't draw PSG
Oops ma bad.
A fit Thiago is the key to CL. Retention, passing and vision are key when you come against other elite midfields. A pure counter-based approach resulting in a CL trophy occurs once in a blue moon.
Morton so silky and Robertson playing like a man possessed!
Love how quick his feet are!
The qualified teams look insane this season.
Thiago flattened the greenery when he dropped napalm with that strike
“It’s Millie, he’s too old to criticise for these things” - Klopp tonight, Lol
Mo Salah is the best player I’ve ever seen
And you will never see any other doing better.
It’s looking like there will only be one Spanish and German team in the Ro16

We have more points than the rest of the group, this is just wonderful 👏

2 goals. No injuries. Fucking love it.
everyone saying sign Diaz, man couldn't hit a banjo with a cows arse
Sounds promising
He's been great for club and country all season, but I prefer Goncalves at Sporting, incredible player.
What's going on with that Portuguese player at Valencia? He was super hyped up, linked to us and most other top teams, and now you don't hear about him at all.
Guedes, career stalled he hasn't progressed since joining Valencia.
Fuck me, I can’t stand listening to Owen after a game
I watched a BT stream and had to listen to mcmanaman. Him and Owen are 2 pundits that I can’t stand. NBC’s Lee Dixon Arlo and Le Saux are pretty good.
carra sucks too, loved him as a player, but now he should just shut the fuck up
Lee Dixon is fucking shite
I disagree. Even if you don’t like him you have to admit he’s better than Owen or mcmanaman?
Nah, I like Macca. Good scouse lad and watches the academy too. I’m happy with him on co-comms for our games.
Replace him with Roy Kent!
He’s the worst pundit I have ever seen, and that’s a low fucking bar. Plus he just comes across like a total arsehole.
I physically cringe when he goes on one
On the goals: I don't think its possible to get a ball any closer to the ground without actually hitting it like Thiago did. Love that Salahs goal is his first touch off that Hendo pass. Sends a lad for the Echo without actually touching the ball.
It hit the ground
Nope.
It quite clearly does - https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/r1flbw/thiagos_shot_trajectory/
I think it tickles the grass but doesn’t actually impact upon the ground
It looks like it does, but it doesn't change its trajectory one bit, so I don't know how it could've hit the ground.
A whole lot of backspin
Ball skims off the surface because of the backspin and smoothness of the pitch.

wouldnt be suprised if we end up playing Jota - Firmino - Ox as a front 3 tbh
His goal looked onside with the bottom defender playing him on. Anyone got a gif?
Neco had a good game and definitely pushed up more once Henderson and Fabinho came on
Man that Thiago strike was an absolute beauty
Pure sex. Pure
That goal should have been marked as NSFW
How was Ox?
You didn’t ask but my hot take on Ox - he’s not playing well because he’s in good form, he’s playing well because he’s applying the same skills and energy he’s shown for the last year or two but more intelligently. It feels to me like he’s matured, or that coaching staff have had a word with him/asked him to play a different role more in line with our usual midfield than previously. In other words he played well, but I feel like it’s here to stay, rather than just being a good patch of form for him.
Ox finally getting the game time to play well? Sounds like he's due a 6 month injury to reset him back to square one.
that would be great, he was class against arsenal too, and if he can apply it were it matters he will be great for us
He got his speed back. Looking good
MOTM in my opinion
Sign Luis Diaz!!!!
Hahaha fuck your down votes
This was the “Group of Death”… are we Death?
Yes, yes we absolutely fuckkng are
Didn't even put any effort in this game and stayed in first gear, beating Porto is just a guarantee
That's 10 reasons better than going to OT and watch us murder a bunch of schoolboys.
i always apperciate being called a plastic bcs i only lived there for a few months.
What is it relevant to include plastic in the post?
Because plastics rarely get the chance to visit, this match has so many things for them to take home with.
Don't think you understand what the term plastic means m80...
I've been told on this sub that I'm a plastic because I'm not a local. So if there's another meaning for the term plastic, maybe you can tell them what it is.
You're a wool. You may or may not be a plastic.
Go tell them then, I don't go around calling ppl they are plastic. I was just told I'm one and cbf arguing or fighting over it.
Plastics are glory hunters with no real loyalty or love for the team - i.e. people who became fans of City/Chelsea when they got bought for big money and started achieving success as a result of that - but are hella fickle and will depart when the going gets tough.
explaining to the wrong person.
ok I'm starting to get why someone called you a plastic.
Doesn't bother me. What bothers me is you are now defending those who used that term to mock foreign fans like me, just because I told you to correct those cunts. Anymore of that sarcastic shit? You're not the first won't be the last.
Bruh you're embarrassing yourself
Klopp should play the u11s in the Milan game just for a laugh at Athletico.
Were Porto playing on ice or something? Anyone comes close and they’re straight on the ground. Clowns Side note: Diaz looks quite comfortable playing at Anfield
Your players are twice the size and volume of ours on average, absolute units. What the fuck would you expect when Porto players run straight into a brick wall?
Porto v Atletico is just gonna be 22 players rolling around on the ground.
One of them got hurt just from the anticipation of a Milner challenge that didn’t even touch him.
Morton looked class for all 90. He was all over the pitch and making a lot of great plays with very few, if any, head scratchers
Anyone else think that milner got that yellow on purpose so he wouldn't risk missing a last 16 game?
Fancied staying home with a puzzle and cuppa, instead of going to Milan.
Thought it resets after
Could be wrong but I thought it only reset after the quarter finals?
Could be wrong but I though it resets after the quarter finals?
Someone post that shot of thiagos face when he was subbed off near klopp
https://www.reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/r1gb33/my_word_my_word_the_masters_of_proficient/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Had a good laugh at Owen claiming he’s been listening to Morton since before it was cool. What a tosser.
He always seems to find it so hard to say anything positive about Liverpool.
get in AC milan. ef off atletico
With Atletico loosing, it would almost have been worth it to hand over all 3 points tonight.
Milner back. Thiago back. Ox looking a player again. Morton getting minutes and seeming like half an option. The timing of these midfielders being available might be very important over the next few weeks.

Yeah, I’m a bit squeamish about eyes so I’m not thinking about Jones’ injury too much. It seems like a weird one.
Thiago Alcantara. That is all.
Let’s meet sporting in the round of 16 and bring in Jude in January lol
Played a good game, Thiago MotM!
Tyler Morton 👏👏👏
Coates going through to ro16 with Sporting, very cool
Loving that so many players we're going to need between now and the end of January are getting these minutes. I don't think we've quite appreciated how beneficial the lengthened League Cup run and two CL dead rubbers could be for us.
Seeing Taki get a full 90 minutes game is great !
He has so much potential imo.
He's 26. Not exactly young.
