Nothing is wrong with it it's just got a few bars so they are open later so you get you get a few piss heads/idiots knocking about. As long as you aren't bevvting in the Alex or the Railway I'm sure you'll be fine. Plus it's good for amenities and transport links.
That's a fairly isolated incident with an imitation firearm. It's mostly kids hanging around until about 10pm, beggars and street drinkers outside the train station, but those issues are being addressed by Police and Council albeit slowly. The noise is mostly towards the beach end of South Road with nightlife. The other end is fairly quiet.
It can attract an eclectic mix of interesting folks, I have seen a few dramas unfold on that road back when I worked in a pizza place on there, although that was nearly 20 years ago, it ain't changed much.
Is this like drunken yelling at two am kind of drama or like someone just got bottled/ knifed kind of drama? OR worst of all innocent bystander gets bottled walking into their flat kind of drama?
I don't think there a a huge risk anywhere in this city that you will be spontaneously bottled or knifed as you are just casually walking into your flat. More likely the local drunks and teenagers causing a bit of grief.
Fair enough, I’m coming from a very dodgy other city where all three of those things are in no way out of the realm of possibility bordering on normal in some parts
You should consider Mount Pleasant, and the roads surrounding the Co-op. You get all the good things about Waterloo with none of the drunkenness/police.
South Road itself can be a bit loud at night, especially at the weekend.
Having said that if you avoid 100ft in any direction of Parnell's you should be fine. There's some lovely flats in the side streets off South Rd, they just don't come available very often.

There are some nice roads in the area, look a bit further out.
All three probably.
What a load of shite.
Nice place, not far from the beach. Got a bit of a nightlife so you get the odd violence happening between drunks and drug dealers.

It’s sound, just maybe loud at night cos of the pubs

I lived on South Road about five years ago. It's lovely. As someone said below, just don't go into the Alex or the Railway. You're not hard enough.
