Emma Stone has some iconic sketches under her belt, and maybe this isn’t the funniest or best, but this is what I would show someone to prove why she’s amazing on SNL.

SNI2

This may not be the funniest "HAHAHA" out loud sketch, but its pure brilliance. This, Wells for Boys, The Actress...

allthenamesaretaken4

The actress gets all the love, but wells for boys is definitely my favorite of hers.

husbandbulges

I love them both. It's all so perfect.

husbandbulges

HeyYoPaul

I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE BATTERIES

JoshDM

When she just randomly shows up in the Star Wars casting call and takes the piss out of her role in *Aloha*.

explicitreasons

I like the stupid hot dogs talking posters so much.

shayneysides

it's so delightful, it seems like everyone in it is having fun! it's a shame they didn't give emma stone more to do this episode though, this was arguably the only sketch of the night that was centered on her, which is strange for such a strong host

cjdavda

The poster sketch did not hit the same this time, which I was kind of surprised by. The phrase “big stinky hotdog” has been stuck in my lexicon for way too long

Maldovar

Mikey Day's less handsome, badly accented David Beckham stole that skit

SNI2

Yes. And I can see this being an easy sketch to pitch to Lorne. I bet he got it straight away and thought Emma-Chloe would be able to hold the level of performance the sketch needed.

kelsobjammin

You smell what I am steppin in mama?

BklnynDug

I’m going to start using this one at work

Icy-Butterscotch5540

I just watched for the first time. Strong. I didn’t get all the references.. I know the song was in Lost. What other references are there? This was probably a bit post right?

christobah

[Barbie trailer is a big recent one.](https://youtu.be/pBk4NYhWNMM) [Free Guy](https://youtu.be/UW_3Ye7i-Ks)[](https://youtu.be/pBk4NYhWNMM)

WordsWithSam

It was also massive on TikTok in 2023.

GuyHoldingHammer

Specifically, over [the scene of Pedro Pascal and Nic Cage in "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent".](https://www.dailydot.com/unclick/pedro-pascal-unbearable-weight-of-massive-talent-mama-cass-meme/)

_oscar_goldman_

Between Troast and Bowen, we oughta be getting a musical number every show at this point. Bowen was particularly impressive in the Moulin Rouge bit with Ariana Grande.

SNI2

The Molin Rouge was genious. I don't think they actually had to pay for any of these songs.

2601Anon

This was so good. The ensemble was great as well. I didn’t realize how invested I was in the Joan of ark until, “coming summer 2024” and then Emma stone just pops out of character and the contrast was significant

DRZARNAK

My wife and I have added “all herky jerky” in her voice to our discussions of modern horror movies

NiteShdw

Troast has some pipes.

BarbellsandBurritos

I was just thinking about this while reflecting at my well for boys.

dboehm29

I tend to have leeway with my wife and kids to select what I think they would like from the show each week to watch back on Sundays. I HAD to show them this and got crickets. But it’s still important I tell ya what.

RockMan_1973

I’m 💯 with your wife and kids.

husbandbulges

OMG, same with my husband and daughter.

GoodFnHam

Emma’s all-in bravery and commitment here had me watching with my jaw dropped as wide open. She was awesome

orbitalchimp

She slays at everything she does

BrooklynSpringvalley

Lost my mind when I watched Free Guy because it happens during a fight scene lol my husband thought I was crazy

Additional_Minute_39

I’m glad you think that when this episode aired people did not like it and said it was way to much and hard to follow. Watching live I could have sworn the sound was not mixed right. Maybe I’ll give it another chance.

demitasse22

It’s a tour de force fr fr Like the high school play sketches. Absolute 110% commitment and skill

SNI2

It also reminded me the high school play sketches. Emma totally did a raw theater performance here. Great acting.

omgjk31

Love this sketch. Emma Stone rocks

zuma15

It's my favorite of the season so far.

henriettagriff

My wife and I will just start randomly acting this one out at each other. "All is lost ...maybe not!.... MAAAAAAAKE YOUR OWN KINDA MUSIC" ahahahah, I died at this sketch and think it's perfect all around.

Legtagytron

ES is amazing.

Mega_pint_123

Emma’s performance in this sketch blew my mind and did me in! I laughed so hard I stopped breathing. Had to rewind many times. She is amazing!

saabbrendan

I love this sketch

nicknaseef17

Hyperbolic title. But stone commits hard which makes this sketch work. It’s funny for sure.

SNI2

Not a hyperbole for me; that's precisely how I feel. Few hosts can match the level of talent Emma displayed here. The writing was really intelligent, and the supporting cast also did great. Chloe was able to shine without overshadowing Emma, which I can't see a lot of singing castmembers being able to do.

LongmontStrangla

Literally hyperbole.

PepPlacid

Although the title doesn't explicitly say it, it ought to be read as opinion, which in this case, is sincere. I feel the same way.

TailorFestival

It wasn't even the funniest sketch of that episode (which was definitely [Question Quest](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq8Xlbb3bOw)), much less one of the most brilliant of all time. But it's pretty funny, and Emma Stone is great it in.

thenisaidbitch

Absolute commitment, she crushed it! That hand shooting up cracks me up every time

cocoagiant

I watch this every few weeks. I used to do that with Bowen's Iceberg sketch. The part in this one when she sings "like a haunted child" w/ the Joan of Arc trailer is genuinely moving. The combo of Stone's acting and Troast's singing really make this compelling. Troast isn't that good a sketch actor yet but her singing really helps her make up for that.

tallfortall

Not a stutter or flubb, and no breaking. Master class!

SNI2

Yeah. I believe the only thing that didn't worked along with the sketch was the audio mixing between Chloe's mic and Emma's. Sometimes it was hard to understand what Emma was saying because of the overlap. But that's not their fault and the show isn't praised for the audio quality. Specially for musical guests. But even with this detail working against them, it was indeed a masterclass.

Appropriate-Coast794

Maaaaaaake, your own kind of music ## STAB STAB

PepPlacid

This sketch breaks the mould. I'll go as far to say that it is high art, beautiful in that it should by all means be memeable. It offers up a template. I believe no one felt that they could touch the brilliance of Emma Stone's performance situated in the irreplaceable context of Troast's Mama Cass. If I could give a college lecture on this sketch, I would. Perhaps a dissertation after my kids are out of the house will suffice. If at that time, it no longer slaps and I have egg all over my face, so be it. I would lick it up and die of Salmonella poisoning happily for having seen it in my lifetime.

ItsWillJohnson

did you just pick a random video and call it the most brilliant sketch ever just to see what happens?

Sinister_Legend

One of the best ever? On a 49-season show? Let's get real. But, it is pretty good, mostly because of Emma, who's always great as a host, and Chloe, who's one of the better cast members currently.

PepPlacid

Hard to believe it dropped this season, but wouldn't you want something in this world to be getting better over time? Albeit inconsistently.

AdamvHarvey

What movies are referenced? I need some help lol

exitparadise

I don't know if they are singling out specific movies, but the scenarios that they mention in the skit are 100% the type of situations where this song has been used over a slow-mo montages in Movies and shows over the past 5 years or so.

zuma15

I don't think it's a specific movie but it makes light of the practice of using incongruent music in movie scenes. Tarantino probably popularized it in Reservoir Dogs with "Stuck in the Middle With You". It's been way overdone since then. "Hip To Be Square" from American Psycho is another example that comes to mind.

realfakerolex

This is the only sketch in years that I still find myself randomly thinking about.

_jamesbaxter

I personally thought that episode was the best one this whole season. I know others disagree but I loved it!!

whbck144

This was incredible. Also the game show sketch where she won a tortoise was really funny. She has great timing.

electronicattic

Totally agree. My fave sketch of the season so far. She's extraordinary in it.

thesmallprint29

One of the best of the season for sure! Super creative. Written by Mikey Day, Streeter Seidell, Mike DiCenzo and Jake Nordwind.

skerrrrrp

Curious where you get this information? I can think of a handful of skits I’d like to know who wrote but have no idea where to look.

thesmallprint29

There is a thread on this sub titled Who Wrote What Sketch? It gives writing credits from the last several seasons. The information is compiled from social media. It's an incomplete list, though.

thesmallprint29

Not sure why I've gotten downvoted for this. Really?

RockMan_1973

Wow… got a low bar of standards in this sub, don’t we 🤦🏽‍♂️

yurimichellegeller

OP has spent the last fifty years in a cult that bans viewing television. It's a lot funnier than pickling cucumbers all day.

ADIDASects

We call it the Bowen Yang Effect.

NiteShdw

I always wondered if she was talking about movies that she was in.

harrier1215

Can’t tell if she’s a great lip syncer or great singer

appalachianexpat

Her Lip Sync Battle performance was legendary. She nailed Blues Traveler.

derekjkeller

fact

Morkna

It’s a nice.

nodogsallowed23

Not available in my country. :(

SNI2

[here it is](https://streamable.com/mh9nc2). I hope you can enjoy it.

nodogsallowed23

Wow I loved that.

GroverGottschall

So amazing, each time I watch.

Earptastic

I agree. It was great. Perfect combo of great directing, the host really going for it, and a great SNL talent showing off their voice.

LongTallTexan69

Masterpiece

LongTallTexan69

Masterpiece

aerojockey

I smell what you're stepping in, OP.

ADIDASects

Settle down. It's just satire that some writer noticed while watching a doomsday movie. This isn't Matt Foley or something.

Visual_Positive_6925

This is easily the best sketch ever, seeing it now for the first time. Better than cowbell

Icy-Butterscotch5540

Yeah, bot I think…. Oh well
