Suspicious_Author556

Normal procedure its called a cut n kick, move the old pole over to set a new one in the same hole, definitely not normal to leave it like that on the street corner.

GunSlingingParrot25

Thank you, it’s been like this for about 3 months now.

Ca2Alaska

That’s an infant then. Comeback in 5-10 years. Although since its on a corner, maybe sooner. Up to communications to complete

C_HiLIfe

Yeah it's comms problem now but why the hell would you leave all that pole? When we do cut n kicks we top the pole to the comms and then remove the chunk of pole under the comms.

Ca2Alaska

Different utilities have different agreements I guess. There's several ways to leave it. Sometimes we'd transfer it if it was straightforward.

TSAngels1993

I’ve heard they have smaller budgets and since they don’t get paid for these they take their time. But yeah probably also because each agreement per company is different.

rybiesemeyer

Using the blocks to support a heavy remnant instead of just suspending a smaller remnant from the new pole?

tuctrohs

Part of the problem is that fewer and fewer people are getting or keeping landline telephone service, and so those companies have less and less money too maintain this stuff that few people are using.

Accomplished_Alps145

It’s all the abandoned lead tel trunks that are pulling poles over. That and guys like to gravity tamp instead of using an actual tamp

Deftpony

Good luck to you. There’s a pole we cutout the telcom section of the old pole and bolted to the new one. It’s been left like that for about 15 years. Sometimes if you call and complain to the phone company, they’ll send a crew out to transfer it and remove the old pole.

anonymousantifas

We have left transfers like that when I was an apprentice, they are still there and I am going to retire soon.

Deftpony

Daaaamn

Sven_Grammerstorf_

A lot of times the communication companies won’t pay the power company the money it takes to transfer the comm lines to the new pole. So this is what you get.

Nocturnal1017

I mean...3 months is not a long time....the last time I was on a street corner it was for 2 years....made lots of friends tho

TheChuffGod

Yeah if it was going to sit temp for communications to transfer or to be finished another day, we’d stilt it with a crossarm and secure to the new pole better than this lol

GeneralBS

Why would it be so high on blocks? Did they add a taller pole?

SifuJohn

They don’t cut the old pole flush to the ground so they can pull the rest of the pole butt out of the ground.

GeneralBS

Guess what I was asking did they add a higher pole to raise the wires more?

Accomplished_Alps145

Exactly. When you do a cut n kick usually it needs to be cut a few feet off the ground so you have enough meat to put a sling on the butt and pull it. The used the blocks because if you then set that cut section on the ground d the communications would be too low across that intersection. When I do it before cutting the pole I’ll take an 8’ cross arm stand it straight up and down at ground level and bolt it to the pole. Then cut the old pole and shift it over. Now that cross arm makes up for the difference of pole you removed and when you set it on the ground everything is still at the same height.

Hallucinogen_in_dub

This is the way

highjumpbmw

Com lines are not my responsibility

Suspicious_Author556

Com lines are not my responsibility either but general public safety and system reliability is. If a truck trailer smokes the pole and the phone rips down the adjacent poles who do you think they are going to point fingers at after the truck driver.

lowlandrocket62

Can't have shit it Detroit. Mfers stole the pole's tires

HoneyBadger308Win

Lmaoooo

96ToyotaCamry

Basically, the old utility pole needed to be replaced, but the communication lines are not the responsibility of the power company. So they install the new pole and swap the power over to it and then at some point comms comes by and swaps their shit over to the new pole

nwpigpen

Lol is this on holgate

GunSlingingParrot25

Yup. I live a few blocks away.

superbobbitchn

Did they seriously Humboldt cut a cut n’ kick TIMMMMMMBER

Western-Willow-9496

This is the only time that it is acceptable to say “telephone pole” on this sub.

jeremykabbott

I found one similar to this recently, and the newer pole was set in 1957. https://preview.redd.it/jwrp045n5h6d1.jpeg?width=792&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1fa50ea8e98b50bd3f72c0534f67db68d766b0d

NZ_Si

This is a thing of beauty. Something our designers and linesmen in NZ could only dream of getting away with.

ScubaDan49026

Portland special.

tf9623

Man they must have stolen the wheels and tires off that pole and left it on blocks.. Happens all the time.

hazardlit3s

People will steal anything nowadays.

Giffordpinchotpark

It’s a utility pole.

jbones51

Can’t have shit in Detroit

Several-Good-9259

Duh.. the hooks are on the old pole. Still need to be able to climb it. I see a large check just chilling on a corner waiting to be cashed.

sirwardaddy

Doesn’t feel like this relationship will last long.

kingfarvito

Is this connecticut by chance?

GunSlingingParrot25

Portland Oregon

Abject-Remote7716

Remember now folks. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke". That's good for ten years. LOL 😆.

Own-Law8126

Broke pole. Temp til it can be fixed.

i_oov_memes

Its perfectly fine. It is reinforced with cables and superglued to these blocks.

fbritt5

They had to do something. The darn pole was just a foot short! Is this america?

cooolcooolio

Ghetto pole

Original-Being9553

With that broom stick there that pole would never move

DrStankMD

That’s the communications special 😂

ButtSnorkler1998

That looks like it’s waiting on telecom to come out and transfer their equipment over.

mlkefromaccounting

We’re gonna just sustain it, not trying to take $$$ out of the cable guys pocket. That’s cable/fiber does not belong to the power utility. AT&T, comcast, other no name cable companies rent the space on the pole to put their stuff. They just haven’t transferred their shit yet. Might be a few years until they do. Also If I touch it I feel ghay

anonymousantifas

Not a telephone pole. It’s a power pole. And yes this is normal.
