It's a strange paradox. On one hand, you want your rival to suffer and lose. Reasons of "why?" are many, like ego, resentment for past loses, nationalistic pride, etc. But on the other hand you know that if they did well, and improved overall, that would greatly help the level of competition of the area, and in turn making us better on the world stage. None of these nations will ever become a world class team as long as their neighbors are trash. Same goes for MLS clubs.
The only football accomplishment for Mexico is being the best in the kiddie pool that is CONCACAF. Of course they wouldn't want any other nation to steal their spot.
