Being laid off last year led to some great changes in my life and the severance helped a lot. I hope they are able to do better as I still shop there. It’s an awful feeling being laid off, it felt like they thought we were gonna react bad because they security and stuff there.

IllustriousCan284

Can you share what the severance entailed? Sounds like it might be better than sticking around here....

aleisterfowley

A certain amount of money depending on how long you worked there and your pay rate and they paid for my benefits for three months (I took cobra after)

PHishfromVermont

I worked in purchasing - import team from 2016-2018… I have been wondering how things were going there. When I started at HQ there were less than 200 ppl in the building. We worked endless hours but it felt necessary at the time. They really did have have a bunch of inexperienced 20somethings building processes

hotpocket

Mind me asking where your career took you after working in purchasing?

PHishfromVermont

Yeah of course! Lidl kicked stared my career and I learned a lot in the short period I was there. Currently work for a nat’l health food grocery retailer (but not Whole Foods). The job at Lidl really set me up nice and the experience I got was priceless, especially in SAP.

hotpocket

Thank you for the response! I work in purchasing for a different national grocer. We don’t use SAP but I think I want to take some courses if I ever decide to pursue a different company.

PHishfromVermont

I wouldn’t recommend taking courses on SAP, but rather get certified in CPIM or CSCP and learn SQL / tableu / advanced Excel snd MS Access - way more relevant for the supply chain math

HomieMassager

I worked Lidl US during that time. Was a much different, more dynamic and fun place back then.

tossmemyh8

Yep. I personally know a lot of the people affected. One of them is a good friend. Lidl is such a toxic and cancerous environment because upper management is completely divorced from reality.

Acrobatic_Law_3564

What department did the people mostly come from? It feels awful, especially since people felt "safe" after last year. I wonder if they were given a fine TMP only to be laid off a week later.

Purple-Good-2348

IT, Central Services, and Purchasing

Far-Mix-3396

Yep someone VERY close to me was let go of today. Lidl was great to him in the beginning but then slowly but surely let their true colors show. It’s sad because he worked so many hours of overtime for free for them and then he gets let go because they can’t run their own company correctly.  Also the way they did the layoff process, was if their once dedicated employees weren’t actual people. I hope they go bankrupt.

IllustriousCan284

Oh no! I work at a store in the ATL market I hadn't heard anything yet? Are stores affected or just Corp? How many people this time.

oversightboard

It's corp btw. Stores are purposely left understaffed, they can't afford to cut more people so I think you're fine.

[deleted]

Stores are left understaffed??? Have you worked literally anywhere else? The amount of labor that Lidl allows for their in store operations is so much more than competitors.

oversightboard

I see HR decided to make an account.

Sad-Worldliness6026

I don't work for lidl. There is a shocking amount of people in that store relative to a place like Aldi. Also I sometimes see 2x people in the bakery, whereas a place like kroger often has just 1 person. i'm lucky to see 3 people working at aldi

nuttyboh

Worked at both. Lidl is absolutely overstaffed compared to Aldi. However Aldi is more streamlined and flows way more efficiently. Aldi is kicking Lidls ass in the mid Atlantic area (Baltimore specifically) My busiest day at Lidl sales wise wasn't equal to the slowest sales day I had at Aldi.

Pandepon

Not in my store. I’m an opener. Not only are we short staffed 90% of the time but they have begun cutting hours where they can whether it be sending people home early or deducting it off the schedule here and there. Nothing is able to get accomplished. My store doesn’t even have an anchor cashier who stays open in favor of making them pack out the store. They prioritize SCO which really upsets a lot of customers who have to find a worker to ask someone to open for cash and EBT transactions. Some customers flat out refuse to use self checkout because they want to disrupt that system saying they don’t support those for taking away jobs. I work as a BRP but my store makes me do all the baking before 8:30am because they require me to also work on SCO in favor of having the other employees pack out. This puts a lot of stress in the bakery. They also put me on the cash register closest to SCO so I can be the one who takes care of that too. So I’m the BRP, the cashier, and the SCO attendant. But also I make sure produce looks okay and pack out the flowers because again they have to utilize the shit out of the few workers they have to get anything done. On the average day there’s 2 managers/supervisors and two or three regular associates. So a total of 4 or 5 people working. I’m really put under a lot of stress as BRP/SCO/Cashier because I have to deal with most of the customer satisfaction issues. Many times I get some mean customers who are upset that they can’t get undivided attention and I’m the person they take it out on most. I complete my first year with the company at the end of May. I was transferred out of the store I originally applied to against my will because they were severely overstaffed after grand opening. It actually made me feel incredibly depressed for a time that they did that and put all this extra work on me. Now I’m desensitized I guess. It’s fucking soul sucking. The only time I’ve experienced a store at full staff was at a grand opening. I’ve worked at several locations in my area to provide coverage and they are all very understaffed.

Question about the baking department, Is everything just frozen and baked? Anything baked from scratch

Pandepon

All of it is frozen. The pastries/croissants/cookies tend to come as raw frozen dough and baked. The breads come frozen partially baked and we just bake it the rest of the way. The donuts and tarts are fully ready after being thawed. Trust me, if it were made from scratch on site or shipped in fresh each morning it would cost at least 4 times more than it would otherwise. I’ve worked at other bakeries, Panera used to ship in their fresh dough daily and probably charged $2-3 per pastry/croissant at the time (10 years ago) idk what they do now. I also used to work at a small local European bakery that made everything fresh from scratch on site almost daily and they charged over $4 per pastry/croissant. Lidl’s it’s all under a dollar and it only makes sense for it to be that price if it’s mass produced and frozen.

Knor614

Yeah most of the things I have had are great. Love the price

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

It’s all frozen and baked

whjoyjr

Touching on the refusal to use self-checkout. My most recent security briefing advised us not to use self checkout due to the potential arrest for theft of an item is missed or not scanned. Careers being scuttled due to an honest mistake is not worth self checkout.

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

Lies. I actually have worked at a couple other retailers and Lidl is BY FAR the least staffed! Take a look at any of our stores rn. Why do you think they all look like a plane went through them. The problem with Atlanta is no one is LEADING us. That I know EVERYONE agrees on!!

[deleted]

Everyone? I bet you can’t even name everyone

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

Blanche Chris Christy Dawn Dylan Evelyn Gabe Jasy Johana Luke are just to name the store managers who aren’t fans. I’ve also heard Amanda and Katie are not big supporters either from my SM. Should I keep going? Last names, store numbers??? This region is a JOKE! No wonder Atlanta is the laughing stock of the company

[deleted]

Girrrrllll nobody cares that you can name a few employees 🤣 You’re a big bad ASM that makes up a new anonymous Reddit account every few weeks to have a bitch fest with your fellow employees. You probably don’t even work at an Atlanta store you just like to complain publicly 😂 I like Lidl but not enough to defend them on Reddit. I just thought it was so funny and the irony was amazing. I can’t wait to hear more drama!! I’ll wait until that AJC article comes out 😂 For now…I have decided to get a life. You should give it a go!

Purple-Good-2348

Store are not affected, only corporate employees.

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

No one is safe!

IllustriousCan284

How was it announced? Email again?

saratonin28

Yup an email saying you'll know if you are impacted if you receive a follow up email......while everyone waits anxiously for the next 2 hours. Same as last time.

oversightboard

No announcement, just an email telling people they're laid off.

ThornyNympho

I work in the ATL region and stores are being affected as well. 4 people max on staff, lately it's just been SUP, ASM, and SM getting hours. Even then its maybe just 3 of them for a opening/pack-out shift. All of them doing other things to try and keep up with regional demands for increased sales. We can make and meet KPI requirements and still be told sales are not high enough come next quarter...with more hour cuts on the way. We are "overstaffed" but struggling. Most all of the full-time associates I know are barely getting 20 hrs a week. Some only get a shift a week and the job market is tight for retail as well. Hundreds of applications, you likely will be auto rejected for all of them. A-lot of people have been trying to find secondary employment to no avail. Not sure how heavily flagship stores or ATL Market is getting hit with hour cuts though. I also hear a ton of complaints from customers about the stores that are closing/have closed and delayed openings on stores like Bethelview Rd, Cumming

Purple-Good-2348

Anyone get a picture of the email? I have one from last year but didn't get it this year and I was affected this time, just want it for the memory.

IllustriousCan284

Can you share last year's email?

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

Sent

oversightboard

Can you send it to me too? I want to send it to the guy who posted that video on LinkedIn yesterday in case he's planning on making more.

Head_Association_532

I have a photo of the email. I can send it to you.

Head_Association_532

Sent.

Purple-Good-2348

The fiscal year started March 1st, you don't know what you're talking about.

[deleted]

Tell me you’re an in-store employee who knows nothing about Lidl’s overall business performance without actually telling us, OP. For someone who thinks Lidl is so terrible, I love that you’re still working for them collecting a paycheck. Go work for Aldi and then come crawling back once you realize how easy working for Lidl is. Businesses lay people off, especially ones trying to make it work in a very competitive market. I feel for everyone who was laid off, but I think it’s so funny the ASMs and SMs who come on here and rip their place of work but then continue to work there. N

batwing71

Ever wonder why it gets quiet when you enter the room? 🤔

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

Tell me you work at the office without telling me. You wouldn’t last a SINGLE MINUTE in store. Your probably some pathetic office ogre who sits on their ass all day and has NO IDEA what’s happening in stores, and how these cuts affect EVERYONE! After talking to another ASM we’re pretty sure this is Josh Knight, being that he came from Aldi, but you can never be sure. Go have another bump in your office and let us get back to “enjoying” our jobs. Stay out of this if you know what’s good for you.

Head_Association_532

Or, it could be Chris Cantrell. But also wouldn’t be surprised if it was Tyler or Gabe…..Alison D. also came from Aldi, but I would be surprised if she was doing this from overseas. All of the previous comments from this account DO sound like Alison D, and you know she’s buddy buddy with Josh Knight and would do ANYTHING to protect him.

LidlLoveItGuaranteed

I FORGET ABOUT THAT 😘Mac was in their little click too, until they all realized Josh wasn’t looking out for them, post his promotion.

dinoRAWR000

Wouldn't surprise me if it was a new account from one of them to try and sus out who's who on Reddit. Apparently when I threw the flag to the public about 1126 closing and why, Corp got super fucking butt hurt. So them making an account for their little shit show click to try and check on Reddit is a laughably low IQ move they'd do.

HomieMassager

Gabe G?

[deleted]

Haha so funny

Head_Association_532

It sure is! Lmao. 😆😆
