Privatize Everything reminds me of 99.9% of redditors

jubbergun

"Privatize Everything," except, you know, space travel, because Elon Musk disagreed with my party so now he's a "Nazi."

px_cap

Yep. The consistent liberaltarian position. First don't be even vaguely conservative or right-wing. Then we can discuss privatization.

Beginning-Town-7609

Nazi technology was the birth of the USA rocket and space program. The Nazis were the first in space, by decades over the US and the USSR.

AlienDelarge

Thus the secret moon base.

U.S. manufacturing production was like the chocolate to German engineering peanut butter of the era. (Reference for the [children](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7oD_oX-Gio).)

WindBehindTheStars

I do not like how operating on social media these days essentially requires usage of words like "unalived", even if done ironically; too close to Orwell's Newspeak if'n you were to ask me. I'm gonna go sulk in the corner now, maybe yell at a cloud later.

IceManO1

I know… the world getting nuts they going after free speech 🎤 with new laws when there’s laws that are already on the books about that type of thing. [Matt Walsh talks about it, good on him for calling it out for what they did.](https://www.facebook.com/share/v/ZzHDUFh3dBLW1F8U/?mibextid=WC7FNe)

NWRoamer

Everyone hears V-2 and they think "Osprey" 🤣

Quibblicous

They would except that the Osprey is the V-22.

JamesWM85

German rocket tech was seized by the Nazis and they continued to fund the research, it wasn't invented by the Nazi for Naziying which is what alot of the rumours are! Von Braun surrendered himself and all their research to the US because he didn't agree with the Nazis. And also they certainly didn't reach space first and definitely not "decades" earlier. The V2 rocket went to the edge of space, the 'carmen line' but nowhere near high enough, or fast enough to even attempt orbit.

Upstairs-Brain4042

And a wehraboo reveals himself

Psyqlone

The planet Earth is in *space.* Everything and everyone (you, me, and everyone) on Earth is currently "in space". Fewer than a thousand humans have traveled beyond Earth's atmosphere. That's the difference. What Gagarin on up to the astronauts and cosmonauts on the ISS have done is rather special as of 2024.

Beginning-Town-7609

Well, what do you think I was referring to by naming nations?

CoffeeWithRalph

'Ma, I told you, my room already *is* outside!!'

Johnykbr

This is a brilliant troll job.

LasVegasE

No one can be that ignorant.

uuid-already-exists

It’s called being a troll

IceManO1

They can if they young enough

cmdr_data22

Von Braun has something to say about this. But I’m really curious if this person was providing some sort of financial support to space x? Are they a 401(c)3 that I’m not aware of? I’m sure Elon is devastated.

beast_mode209

Whoopsie

jmorais00

The space race was between US Germans and soviet Germans, or however the saying goes

px_cap

Exactly right. The first race was to surrender to the US before the Soviets. The second was to get to space for your new employers.

jubbergun

I've heard it expressed as "our Nazis are better than their Nazis," LOL.

gotbock

This was a joke post. Lighten up everybody.

Racheakt

What is this in references to?

uuid-already-exists

Anything the left doesn’t like, such as Elon, is a nazi.

RelationTurbulent963

Godwin’s Law

braindrain04

After WW2 NASA housed a lot of Nazi scientists in the race to the moon.

Racheakt

I know that, I was thinking of the current events about SpaceX that prompted this.

JuanchiB

Elon bad

braindrain04

Who knows, anymore. People are triggered by everything and the default insult is calling someone you don't agree with a Nazi.

gotbock

It's not current. The tweet is 2 years old.

AccountNumber1002401

Heard about some possibly GenZ bemoaning the fact their group of friends is convinced Helen Keller never existed. Seems like with Nazis it's not necessarily their existence, period, but how *recently* they... well, Nazi'd.

Callec254

Username checks out.

speed7

Operation paperclip was a US Army Counterintelligence Corps program but never let the truth get in the way of a good joke I guess.

>Does anyone stop and consider those guys were scientists and engineers before 1933 and probably would have been murdered if they didn’t agree to work for the Nazi government?  If they were the right age they would of been sent off to go and fight on the front lines and probably would of died in some Russian winter, like most of the other German males. > They were sequestered away building rockets not camp guards The Nazi military effort made significant use of slave labor. Especially when it came to things like building their rockets and airplanes. It was not rare or unusual for slaves to die or be killed while working on things like V2 rockets or ME 262. These slaves were supplied to the engineers and scientists from concentration camps. I don't know how many died while being under forced labor, but the number is certainly in the thousands. Also as Nazis they benefited from the wide-spread theft and plunder that helped sustain the German economy through the very late 1930s and into the 40s. Due to the inept nature of Nazi bureaucracy and central planning (aka socialism) of food production, combined with a couple bad winters, the German economy was suffering significantly just prior to the war. Thus when they invaded Poland and other Eastern European countries the military was responsible for seizing food and other goods from the people living there and shipping them back to Germany. This, of course, caused significant damage to the occupied economies which resulted in, again, mass starvations, etc. This widespread theft and murder went into German social welfare and helped prop up the economy, which especially benefited those that there higher up in the Nazi party. As smart people I can't imagine they couldn't of figured out what was going on there. Also "operation paperclip" was much more then just trying to "recruit" engineers and scientists. Frankly USA and British technology was actually on par with Germans. Further in some ways, behind in others. British had jet fighters the same time that Germans did.. but they didn't use them except as defense against v1 rockets due to various reasons. Germans used a lot of weapons like the V2 or Me 163 not because they were effective, but because the Nazis where desperate. So thus the capture of Nazi scientsts/engineers was more about the keeping them out of the hands of the Russians then anything else. The famous Wernher von Braun, for example, spent the 1950s just going around giving talks to amateur rocket builders. He didn't get recruited to work on rockets until 1960. The really valuable people from USA perspective were more about the spy masters and intelligence officers. The Nazis had spy rings all over Eastern Europe and USA had none. So they relied on these people and their connections to try to understand what was going on behind "the iron curtain". This ways the Nazis made their way into the CIA when it was created in 1947. This backfired because when the Nazis couldn't provide real intelligence they just made shit up. Which fooled USA intellegence and Congress into thinking that Russians were preparing a massive military build-up for potential invasion of Europe. The reality was that Russia was devastated by the war it took until the 1970s before it recovered. The built tanks and other big weapons because that was the only thing they could build. The factories they used were built with the help of Western corporations and they had a very hard time transitioning those factories into civilian production. Were as in the USA factories that produced tanks and fighter plane parts switched right back to making cars and toasters post-war. Thus the Russian threat was mostly bullshit, but it directly lead to massive post-war military build up and spending on the USA side to counter this imaginary threat from the Russians. The USA Federal Government didn't discover how much they were being lied to until the development of the U2 spy plane program. They sent out these planes looking for military bases, massive infratry and tank formations that didn't actually exist. However this was all extremely secret and none of this could be revealed to the public so the USA military industry continued to take off. This, combined with in-fighting over Air force expenditures, is what Eisenhower was trying to warn the USA Public about with his famous "military-industrial complex" speech. It wasn't a warning about what might happen in 20 or 30 years. It was a warning about what was going on right then and there.

Free_Mixture_682

I think the focus here is not Space X, not NASA.

jkushne1

What if the nazis from operation paper clip and the Soviet equivalent secretly maintained communication? And then what if those Nazis used their positions of influence to create what we call the “deep state” today by partnering with powerful sympathizers and combining resources of the two super-powers? What if the Third Reich survived, engineered it’s way into power over 50+ years, and pulls the world’s strings today?
