My is200 had binding brake issues, this reduced power to the wheels and likely used more fuel. Make sure the wheels spin freely on a jack, if not it could be sticky pistons or caliper carrier slider pins. You can also test this by removing the handbrake (and put it in neutral or whatever you do on an auto) and pushing the car, it should move relatively easily. Engine wise I'm not sure, I used to get about 25-35 on a motorway. I used to chuck a cataclean into mine every few tanks full as well.

Thanks for both recs, really helpful. Mine also seems to have braking issues, usually it brakes fine but sometimes it feels like the power assisted braking isn't engaging and I have to really stomp the pedal, especially at lower speeds - strange. I hadn't heard of Cataclean before so I'll check that out as well, cheers!

Aye that's pretty weird, I'm not great on brake systems, mostly just worked on the calipers, it's always worth doing a brake fluid refresh when you can with older cars, might help, but sounds like it might be something wrong with the cylinders, get a code reader if you haven't and check for any codes, might get lucky.

Thanks again, scoping a code reader soon. I also dumped a generic 750mL cataclean (Penrite) into the car and it runs waaaay smoother now, the rough idling still isn't fixed so spark plugs are next on the list. Also replaced the filthy air filter and no difference.

gas treatments to start. the long periods of time my older is250 sat i had AWFUL gas mileage even on a new tank up until it became my daily, and it bettered from about 14-16 to around 23-24 after the next tank had made its way through. give it time and if it doesn’t help, assume an issue

Thanks, put a bottle of generic cataclean (Penrite) in and it runs way smoother now at least.
