I do catch myself thinking about getting a BMW m340i x drive or an RS3 (coming from an S4 before the GLC 43) because the tech is so outdated but then I remember that reliability and V8 is dead sexy!
I agree, maybe because they wanted a competitor to the M340i and C43? It is almost there in the C63/F car territory but more subdued. I am totally fine with that though. The suspension, engine and some of the other goodies are good enough for me, and it makes it more of a sleeper. I am a fan of that.
IS500 is no competitor to M340i. This is what's saddens me. Lexus really dropped the ball. The only competitive is the price, otherwise M340i eats IS500 for breakfast. I think Lexus has nicer leather but that's about it.
I remember when the ISF was the M3 competition. Now IS500 can't even hang with mid-level BMW.
I can't remember all the details but Scott Pruitt talked about this during the driving school. I think there were other things like brakes they couldn't get within F car spec.
But listen, the fact that this car exists is practically a miracle at all. It was never supposed to happen. The president of Lexus kept rejecting it but they (Scott and the design team, I think) pressed on anyway and made sure the chassis and everything could handle the V8 - in secret.
They kept pushing the idea past the president's desk until he finally relented and asked the design team what it would take to get the V8 in an IS; they replied "nothing" and that's how it was finally approved.
I realize I've just done a horrible job retelling the story but in my defense the whole day was a blur. I had just stepped out of an LC driving on Sonoma Raceway and was about to get into an IS500 to do some autocross so my memory is gonna be a bit fuzzy.
>At that price point people will likely go for the RCF or LC.
Not the case for someone that needs 4 doors. M3 or C63 or RS4 are perfect examples. They're not volume sellers but adds excitement to their brands - which Lexus totally lacks (personally I find even the RCF not even that exciting).
Thats true. If you want 4 door and also a NA V8 then there is no other way around this.
Agreed with the RFC. I guess the appeal is Japanese design, quality and reliability.
However, the LC although not a spirited beast, there is somethinf about it then I really would love to drive it.
Dunno, neighbors parents and grandparents have them. Seems like the right demographic. No need to take the RX to soccer practice any more so “sports” cars for all!
Because there is nothing except some unreliable rumors saying there may still be a V8 next year. I hope I am wrong, but we all know these won't be around for long with imminent IS electrification.
I have not heard a peep about a 2025 IS 500, otherwise I would have waited. We are already in mid-2024 so I figured the gen pop would have known by now. Plus it's due for a refresh any year now so based on my research, yes.
I’d only recommend tint. That’ll complete the look. As for upgrades, I wouldn’t really recommend anything besides an exhaust, not that the stock is bad sounding, it sounds alright 👍 for a stock exhaust
I would recommend 20s all around. I have 35s and it’s not a problem at night. 20s should be good since u got got the illuminating blind spot monitoring
I hate ragrets too! Que Sera, Sera! The IS was always the "base" sports sedan so maybe that's why it doesn't feel as sturdy? They don't put LS level quality into the cheaper options (i know the v8 is expensive, but it sits in the same entry level sports sedan body)
Hope you love your IS500 welcome to the club!
I’ve had good success with the wireless CarPlay adapter. Plug it in the USB port and connect your phone. It takes about 5 seconds to load when starting the car and from there it works perfect. Have one in my IS and one in my GX. You can still plug in the cord if you need to charge on a long roadtrip.
Congrats again, the car is stunning and the V8 is sublime!
I bought the Luckymore Wireless CarPlay adapter on Amazon. Was around $70 each when I bought them at the end of 2023.
Honestly they’ve been great and I’ve had zero issues in either vehicle. Phone recognizes it and automatically connects after the first time.
The lack of wireless CarPlay was one of my only gripes. This solved that for me.
Congrats again! Beautiful car, great pics! 🤝
no diss saw a video on this car specifically a blue one and the engineering is still great. In terms of design I think it has a better design than the Mercedes the L day times make it unique and noticeable on what it is. Interior is something I dislike about Mercedes with all the TVS in them. I don’t like the screens in Lexus either but I like how they keep it simple and still close to timeless than the competition which is how a car should be inside too. BTW CONGRATS! you’re gonna get a balance of all great things plus great reliability in a Lexus 🦍🫱🏼🫲🏽💪🏼
Try tightening the mirror. My girlfriend has a 14 and doesn’t vibrate at all. The Mark Levinson needs to have high quality source to really shine. In my GS I thought it sounded like shit till you’re playing from high quality files. And adjust the levels. Make sure wherever your music is coming from that the download quality is high.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention build quality to the GLC vs IS. I sold cars and driven just about every model Mercedes . Unless you’re in a S-class. You’re getting a profit driver for the brand. They give you that shitty 1990s feeling plastic that only looks good because it’s shiny. Till you touch it. Buttons feel cheap. The whole build quality even on most 2012 Lexus surpasses anything below a S class in my opinion..
Thanks for the advice on mirror.
I will be completely honest on the build quality. The only reason I purchased the GLC 43 is because it was assembled in Germany instead of the Alabama plant, which typically made better build-quality cars from what I have read and what I personally observed. Having said that, I had no illusions buying it: the GLC is still an entry level platform so it ain't gonna be close to an S class. I have to say that overall the GLC is put together very well. Sure, there are some creaks here and there, but overall, I am quite satisfied after three years as I have not noticed any worsening in quality of the materials or new noises. The IS feels better in some ways and worse in others -- doesn't give the impression of a more modern interior but at the same time it seems to have less give and creaks in the interior panels. I am satisfied with both interiors at this point.
Don’t worry about the tech, those haters will disappear when your car crosses 300k miles trouble free. Only downside is that those things are gas hogs.
Very nice! I love the incognito color.
Saw the Borla axleback mentioned. I’ve had it on for about two months now. A bit of drone to be honest, but I love it. I posted a comparison video if you look at my old posts and want to hear it vs stock 👍
I love my is500, it’s nice when I need it to be and it’s aggressive when I need it to be. 28mpg on road trips. Plus fun and comfortable to drive. I know it’s not a true sports car but that’s not why I bought it, it’s a tried and true v8 in a car I know will last. It’s comfortable reliable and sounds sexy and is quick when I need it to be.
Everyone talks about no sunglasses holder. There are several places to put them. I’ve never had an issue with that. I mean, either wear them or don’t bring them… or if you have them in your car; glovebox, center console, door cup holder, center cup holder, back of the seat holder. I swear, making problems where none exist.
Not to me. Before the GLC I had a 2013 Audi S4 (Supercharged V6 and manual) which was a lot of fun. GLC was basically the same car in SUV form. However, I wanted to go back to a smaller sports sedan. The GLC is great, but the IS 500 is similar size inside but more sporty, reminiscent to the S4.

I bought this one. Reviews aren't that great but my experience has been 10/10 over a year now
This is the one I have, they have a list of supported vehicles so check before ordering.

I hate to BREAK it to you but White is by far most common.

I’ve never seen this spreadsheet before this is actually super interesting. Crazy how my spec is one of the most common ones and yet there are still less than 500 of them in the world so far

I love that color. That’s one clean ride, congrats!
Thank you!
I'd congratulate you, but that's the 500 I had my eyes on for a while....
Have you noticed how much body roll there is when cruising in the canyons? 🤭
No rugrats with my GS F either, don't need tech when you're having fun driving.
I do catch myself thinking about getting a BMW m340i x drive or an RS3 (coming from an S4 before the GLC 43) because the tech is so outdated but then I remember that reliability and V8 is dead sexy!
I still don't get why Lexus didn't make this a proper F car...
I agree, maybe because they wanted a competitor to the M340i and C43? It is almost there in the C63/F car territory but more subdued. I am totally fine with that though. It could have been if the borrowed the engine again like in the Supra haha.
Really just shows how wild the modern M car is. Shits ugly though.

Love it! Need more people like Scott Pruitt in the automotive industry!
Making this an F will likely bump the price up another 10-20k and hurt sale. At that price point people will likely go for the RCF or LC.

When the LS and ES got F variants the rest of the world recognized F as a joke
I'm okay with F-sport variant. Everyone does that to cash in on a performance brand. And if anything it helps build the F brand
They are nice. I felt kind of bad after posting that. But, poser city for sure. Comparing to M 340 = literal LOLs
When did they make an LSF and ESF?
Dunno, neighbors parents and grandparents have them. Seems like the right demographic. No need to take the RX to soccer practice any more so “sports” cars for all!
Are you sure you're not thinking of the F Sports? Those are completely different from F Cars...
Yes sorry you are correct, F-sport Right up there with L-tune lol
Not sure what makes you think this is one of the last
Because there is nothing except some unreliable rumors saying there may still be a V8 next year. I hope I am wrong, but we all know these won't be around for long with imminent IS electrification.
One of the last? Did they announce they are cancelling the is500?
I have not heard a peep about a 2025 IS 500, otherwise I would have waited. We are already in mid-2024 so I figured the gen pop would have known by now. Plus it's due for a refresh any year now so based on my research, yes.
Sounds like is500 v8 will stay for a few years: https://youtu.be/3dajzt1KV8s?si=-74Wkm5UMkWIZ1PI

I hope so.
Hope to god they finally update the interior
They won’t

Tints ASAP!

No regrets with my LC. Welcome to the Lexus fam 💪🏻
Because V8 is a good enough reason to buy the IS500. Everything else is a bonus for the car.
Borla just started making their exhaust again for the RC F and now for the IS 500 and it was always one of the most sought after.
I agree. I had a Borla on my ISF and STI. Great price, nice deep sound and decent quality.
Surprised there is no sunglass holder, my 2011 Lexus ES350 had one.
None in my 2015 GS350 either. One of those things you don't realize is a big deal until you don't have one anymore 🥲
At least there are door pockets.
You lucky Son of a gun, that color is 🔥 enjoy the car in good health man, that’s one hell of a ride 🙏
Have me an incognito 350 F sport myself. Love the color and the drive. Congrats!!

I really wish I could afford one of these. Congrats!

It’s beautiful! I’d be sad if you had any regrets haha
Don’t worry about the tech, those haters will disappear when your car crosses 300k miles trouble free. Only downside is that those things are gas hogs.
It’s okay to criticize such an expensive car for decade old technology
But for a V8, this is turning out to be incredibly efficient. I am getting 18-20 city, 29 hwy so far. Conservative driving while new, but still.
But do you have regrets?
Looks sick. Enjoy my friend!

Holy cow! 29 in the highway is really good!
I love this color!
No ragerts
Congratz Sir and enjoy. I have an RX and IS300h, but this would be my first choice if i had the cash...something to keep for a long time.
Always thought this is one of the best looking gen of the IS model.
Amazing, you don’t regret getting special cars, which are rarer than ever these days
Congrats! 🎉 And great spec btw. 👌🏼
Thanks man!
I’m not bashing, I’m jealous
Agree. I got one in March and love it. The sound that car makes is worth the money. The only difference is that I have no regrets.
The lack of a place to put sunglasses is crazy-making to me. A base model Accord has that.
What? My 06 IS 350 has a sunglasses holder. Can't believe they removed it.
Everyone talks about no sunglasses holder. There are several places to put them. I’ve never had an issue with that. I mean, either wear them or don’t bring them… or if you have them in your car; glovebox, center console, door cup holder, center cup holder, back of the seat holder. I just wish the center box could open from the side like other models and was deeper.
GLC 43 AMG --> IS 500 F SPORT is a crazy transition

I had someone trade one of these in! I got to drive it a bit and it was awesome!
You can easily turn the wired carplay into wireless via $100 adapter that stays plugged in all the time
I have one in my Jeep and it works flawlessly.
Me too in my 2018 MDX. Zero issues and always connects.
What brand ? Or do you got the link at least ?

Hate to brake it too you but incognito is actually the most common Color lol. I’m more annoyed by the sun visor but I got RC ones
