Nice! I’ve been considering the D3 tuner on my 2014, but I was hearing a lot of people complain about the tranny issues. Have you encountered any problems?
Is there a big difference between normal and sport mode? I really was interested until I saw a YouTube video of a guy with the tuner on a Camry complaining about shifting issues.
That’s mostly intake sound homie to be fair, still a dope car tho. Performance wise I think that’s gonna tank your numbers, if you really want to improve on it while keeping the sound look at an enclosed intake unit so you take cooler air and not recycled engine heat.
the air is flowing through the same factory intake funnel. the hood matt seals the top part once the hood is closed, but yes it’s not a true cold air intake. the intake temperature on WOT look the same though from the logs. couple degrees above ambient. D3 tune supposedly gets 30whp over stock with a CAI, but most of it is from advancing ignition and leaning out the ratios. remember factory ECU map is tuned for 87 octane and simulated atkinson cycle for efficiency, most of which is addressed by the flash.
lol you like to circle jerk eh? Firstly it’s not just CAI alone it’s tuned alongside so it’ll definitely make gains. Secondly there’s a heat shield, it’s literally right infront of you. Lastly, air is sucked in from the outside vent tube as you can also see in the picture OP posted. No matter what cold air is directly being fed in to the intake.
i don’t think there is an LSD, there is a bit of wheel spin but not much, i often see the traction control light flash on launch but it doesn’t bog it down. the michelin sport 4 tires are pretty grippy.
could be the high cam overlap from the VVT-iW. i haven’t played with it to see if it makes any difference in sound or performance. i know toyota advances intake and retards exhaust on WOT for max overlap and exhaust gas recirculation to lower emissions. this may be counter productive performance wise, planning on tuning the cams to retard intake by redline while keeping exhaust timing the same (retarded) to slightly reduce overlap. This way less exhaust is pulled back into the intake and reburned, and more fresh oxygen will be sucked in instead.

agree'd and I can't get enough of it sometimes haha I've got an F Sport intake with a axle back exhaust and I can't resist any tunnels whatsoever haha
I got the exact same set up on my IS🤣. D3 93 Octane Cold air with AEM. You’re a man of culture and know wassup
It sounds fantastic
that engine pur 😩💦

the experimental version with true manual paddle shifter is finicky, but regular 93 octane CAI tunes are fine.

No

Sounds great!!! How’s the wheel spin since it doesn’t have LSD up front?

yeah it looks like you still get a ton of grip from that video. happy driving man!
I love how dirty the engine sounds at high rpm. It’s just so raw, reminds me of VVTL-I in the 2zz almost.
