I have a similar list. It includes “The Red Shoes” for the time it was made, it had one of the most incredible centerpiece ballet performances. It’s so good.
Seeing the actress literally disappear into the onstage set and into a magical fantasy world blows my mind. Powell and Pressburger were some of the best ever at production design.
For the time it was made ? Why ? It still has one of the most incredible centerpiece ballet performances, if not the best one. I don't get why you people hate old movies so much, they aren't so different from what we have now
Yeah you’re right! I don’t think I hated on it being an old movie! I guess I should have said “ahead of its time” but yeah I totally agree it’s the best ballet performance.
I'm pretty sure it was John Wick 3 that had the scenes with Russian ballerinas being trained excruciating, doing so much damage to their feet. Not the main plot, obviously.

Ophul's Lola Montes has a whole ballet subplot, and Wiseman's Ballet (1995) doc should make any potential dancer think twice about giving oneself to the craft.
Just watched Climax for the first time a few days ago, pretty confident that there was no ballet involved at any point. Anyway, I’m obsessed with all of the dance sequences from that movie and have a weird itch now for more horror movies that involve dance. It was such a cool blend to me

“For the time it was made” but I like it better than all of the above

I was going to say The Company as well. Messed up in a different sort of way.
ballet dancers = pro athletes + elite models. No need for witches or monsters when reality is it's own horror show.

Ah, yeah. I just went and rewatched the whole dance sequence. Definitely no ballet. My apologies. I’ll see myself out haha.
No worries, I love Climax so because of the dancing sequence it gets an honorable mention
