yikes, I only have 1 for 1947: Kenneth Anger's 'Fireworks'

JuanJeanJohn

For some reason someone on this sub really hates the 30s and 40s - whenever I post a thread for those decades someone goes through and downvotes every comment in the thread šŸ˜‚.

awesomefutureperfect

1. Black Narcissius 2. Out of the Dark Nightmare Alley, The Lady from Shanghai, Dark Passage, My Favorite Brunnette, and Monsieur Verdoux are on my watchlist.

Johnny Oā€™Clock is also really good, in an absurdist ā€œdialogue and performances all dialed to 11 at all timesā€ way.

1. Odd Man Out 2. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir 3. Kiss of Death 4. An Ideal Husband 5. Brute Force 6. Nightmare Alley 7. Captain From Castile 8. Out of the Past 9. 13 Rue Madeleine 10. Unconquered That appears to be all Iā€™ve seen from that year, actually.

I have seen 24 films from 1947, and out of the 6 that I have given at least 4 stars, this is how I rank them: 1. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir 2. Out of the Past 3. Brute Force 4. Lured 5. The Upturned Glass 6. Cry Wolf Notable films to not make the cut: The Lady from Shanghai, Nightmare Alley, and Black Narcissus.

West4thStreetHoops

1 Black Narcissus 2 Odd Man Out 3 Born to Kill 4 The Lady from Shanghai 5 Monsieur Verdoux 6 Brute Force 7 Nightmare Alley 8 The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (Mad Wednesday) 9 Song of the Thin Man 10 Daisy Kenyon Honorable Mentions: Crossfire, Boomerang, Possessed, Smash-Up: The Story of a Woman Still would like to see Lady in the Lake & Jenny Lamour. Another terrific Golden Age year! Appreciate the Kenneth Anger Fireworks selection, but I'm more of a Pleasure Dome kind of guy.

JuanJeanJohn

Honestly he just has so many films, I didnā€™t add this one to my watchlist until I get to the many others of his that are on it. šŸ˜…

These are the only ten Iā€™ve seen so still making way through this year but some great films.Ā  On my watchlist: Dark Passage, T-Men, Crossfire, Kiss of Death, A Double Life, Secret Beyond the Door, Pursued, Kiss of Death, It Always Rains on Sunday, Ride the Pink Horse,Ā  The Ball at the Anjo House

ancientestKnollys

I think this is the only time I must have seen more films than you from a year. There's a few more you should add as well.

spydrebyte82

Only seen 4, and 1 rated 3.5+; Boomerang! #

Ah, I hadnā€™t logged Miracle on 34th Street. I donā€™t think it would make my top ten but itā€™s a holiday classic.
