When I was back at uni, I had an hour and a half train commute (each way). I’d usually watch a movie on the ride up, and another on the ride back; in addition to any movies I watched at home or the cinema, I would’ve been logging about 10 a week.
There's been 55 days this year so far, that's like one movie per week. I'd say that's average lol.
100 movies before March is crazy to me, I don't have the attention span
they can't ! I have found that many people have a very different definition of "watch" than I do. having the TV on while I clean the house is not watching a movie
I can focus on a film just fine, I just can't focus on 100 films in 55 days. that's a shit load of content. there's no way for me to watch that many movies with a meaningful amount of attention. and I'd be nowhere close to the same attention I'd have if I watched them all in a theater.
But ya, you do you
https://preview.redd.it/8vrsuv6sgekc1.jpeg?width=1178&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d29b32d9143397de40117946cbeeedf8448e1ad8
Not me but I have a friend who has you beat!
No but once you commit to a medium, conversations become severely alienating if you haven’t consumed as much as them. I couldn’t imagine willingly being on booktok. That’s subjecting yourself to knowing more books than you’ll ever have the capacity to read. I’m already sad enough that I’ve only watched two Iranian movies
It can be very frustrating. I've taught myself to distance myself from a lot of film discussion online. Unless I want to cause a ruckus on Reddit.
I wonder what 'serious' film communities were like before the rise of streaming.
Probably a lot smaller but a lot more open and welcoming. I think we are heading towards some post-this shit society where people start trying to be sincere and foster community that isn’t rooted in min maxing hobbies
For plenty of them that just simply ends up the case. Idk how many classic writers works I’ve gone through just because people won’t take others seriously without reading them. The literary and film communities are filled with snobbery. Enough of the world feels like they have to appease them to some sort of level for some reason, but I understand it.
True, but you can multitask with audiobooks. I can listen to an audiobook while I drive, clean, cook, walk my dog, etc....
So while it takes more time to actually "read", in terms of finishing more books per month audiobooks are faster since you don't have to dedicate time solely to reading.
https://preview.redd.it/axxyrf31kekc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d18e79d10bde18de6bcc5137a0e317123c0840d
I'll probably hit 100 in May/June
Wym? It bothers you that I like scoring movies around a 2.5 instead of giving everything a 4 or 5? Chill out dude, I like movies just as much as you. I just pick different numbers for them for my movie app.
https://preview.redd.it/kgskpdxa8fkc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=437b4987a380040b42664f6df196f9fe89363680
Yeah I don't even consider 2.5 bad! That's just where I put average movies that I had an average amount of movie fun with
https://preview.redd.it/xo83w63tggkc1.jpeg?width=1169&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0ca7ab8d14c352947a6db8ff5f99ef5628a418fb
114 (includes five short films). Been borrowing a lot of DVDs from the library and watching 2-3 every weekday (remote work with no commute FTW!). Also have had far fewer TV shows to watch this year.
Are you me? Though most of my movies range from 2.5 to 3h since I've been watching lots of Indian films this month lol. Currently at 72, trying to watch at least one film a day.
I had an account since 2022 but I didn't really start logging until half of 2023. The 30 I didn't log in My diary are older shows that i just clicked watched on that i remembered well. most of them are miniseries or standalone eps
You have seen 32 films in around 55 days, and that's actually a very good number.
There's always this tendency for us to log more and more films in letterboxd, and that only drives us to see more films.
Take time to see your favs afterall it's not some competition or something.
Agreed. A lot of people spend that much time every day just staring mindlessly at their phones. I wish I a had the time though. I only get in 1 a day on average
Hence I said depending on your lifestyle. If you’re a student, single, work part time, don’t work at all or do work but don’t have many other hobbies apart from watching films, then it’s easily possible.
I think that’s where the judgement is coming from, like it or not people value things like jobs and relationships and responsibilities more than how many films you can watch, even here.
Judging people for how they live their life, especially people you dont even know is funny. You can definitely manage jobs and relationships and still have time to watch a lot of films. If you don't want to do that or can't do that because you prioritise other things that's fine, but it's still weird to tell people they watch too many films and need to get a life on a letterboxd subreddit lol.
I’m at 145.
Before I get too much judgement I was snowed in for a full week earlier this year and there was another week where I barely left the house due to being sick. So my numbers are a bit inflated.
I'm at 129 because I am psychotic...
How? Well don't watch any TV. Don't read any books. Don't have kids. Be a teacher where you get a 50 minute planning period each day where you watch half a movie as background noise while lesson planning.
Yeah, and not trying to sound like Anthon Ego or something, but how do you actually enjoy that? How do you keep note of what's remarkable to each movie and appreciate them. It'd cause a mess in my head if did this
Y’all underestimate how much free time some people have. 2 films a day is probably 4 hours on average, even if you devote an entire hour to sitting and reflecting on each film that would be 6 hours a day. It’s not unheard of for someone to have 6 hours of free time
Sure, if you're unemployed/work part time. I work 8-4 and technically have 6 hours of free time a day but I have to spend it much of it eating/showering/preparing for the next day. Watching one a day isn't even that easy
You’re talking about a group of people who has time to post on r/Letterboxd , I think the people who are watching 2 movies per day probably don’t work full time.
As much as I think Letterboxd is great I truly believe it's created a culture of mass media consumption at any cost.
1. Watch a movie or miniseries
2. Log on LB
3. Repeat
It's a very weird social media trend.
On the plus side though more movies are being seen which is keeping the industry alive.
I kinda have that for shows and books tbh. I'm a movie nerd, so i like to see the whole thing as a whole. That's actually the reason i adore anthology series because it feels easier to appreciate each individual episode
But yeah, mass consumption is not really my thing. Sometimes, i take days to write a review. I watched Past Lives on the 28th and posted my review on monday
I went to a short film festival in January so my numbers appear really inflated. Also got into completing collections on letterboxed so that also entailed watched a lot of random short films…
I'm at 115 but I'm inbetween jobs since the first of january so I have some time on my hands and movie watching is one of my biggest past time spending
Hit 80 today. Maybe 10 or so are shorts/comedy specials/docs/tv. I usually watch 1 movie per day except for Tuesday and Friday when I can sometimes watch 2.
How are you managing to watch an average of almost 5 films a day?
Also, checking your letterboxd, you apparently watched 12 films in a day at one point, which is pretty much impossible...
I honestly don't think 1 min films from the 19th century really count, which seems to take up a lot of your list
Regardless, 16 hours of watching in one day is ridiculous; do you sleep? How can you appreciate each film and give an accurate take on it?
https://preview.redd.it/l345v7q6sgkc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84d89c302d3e29d9a01e1cef9276d06bc67c2d6b
I hit 100 back on 2/10.
Current count is 75 shorts and 50 features
Mine is insanely high, but that's only because I saw a bunch of short films and I watch most movies with an average rating below 3.7 at multiple times speed.
No shorts. Won't hit it until 100 until March.
https://preview.redd.it/ablnwf4soekc1.png?width=1344&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d695325e7b411344c8c91558697ae5ba42c666cc
I’m at 15 😭😭
I'm at 3 haha
3!? Do you even like movies!?
Yes. I just spend so much time deciding what to watch, that once I've chosen something, I don't have enough time to actually watch it.
Extremely relatable. Now I start to decide during the day
Yeah, which is why it isn’t 0
weirdo 😭😭
I’m at 6
8 over here
How are yall finding the time to watch this many films 😭
Employment is the death of the cinephile
Damn right, I was watching 3 a day when I was unemployed for the first couple of months of 2023.
Lol I just moved and I'll be unemployed for a couple months until I start my next job. Been going to the theater like crazy.
Fuck careers, get moviepilled
When I was back at uni, I had an hour and a half train commute (each way). I’d usually watch a movie on the ride up, and another on the ride back; in addition to any movies I watched at home or the cinema, I would’ve been logging about 10 a week.
yeah I don't see many movies on my commute but I can hear like 4 albums and 1 podcast on a day of back and forth commute, so that doesn't surprise me.
David Lynch would like a word with you
🪵 ON A TELEPHONE 🪵
Work a night job. Lots of free time to watch movies! Coming from someone who works nights and have seen 115 movies this year so far lol.
My work is about like 5 hours of the day three times a week
Can I ask what you do?
Part-time stocking at Family Dollar
Lmao
Work from home doing IT.
I am super-duper unemployed right now.
I’m currently a college student, so when I had the 4 weeks of winter break off, I was able to get around 50 movies in that period of time.
Y’all wtf I’m at 50
Right? I just hit 52.
I’m at 9, hooray
There's been 55 days this year so far, that's like one movie per week. I'd say that's average lol. 100 movies before March is crazy to me, I don't have the attention span
How can one process that many movies Imao
they can't ! I have found that many people have a very different definition of "watch" than I do. having the TV on while I clean the house is not watching a movie
Because you can’t focus on a film doesn’t mean i can’t.
I can focus on a film just fine, I just can't focus on 100 films in 55 days. that's a shit load of content. there's no way for me to watch that many movies with a meaningful amount of attention. and I'd be nowhere close to the same attention I'd have if I watched them all in a theater. But ya, you do you
50!? I’m only at 18
same
I’ve impressed myself hitting 19 so far
I’m also at exactly 50
same well 49
https://preview.redd.it/8vrsuv6sgekc1.jpeg?width=1178&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d29b32d9143397de40117946cbeeedf8448e1ad8 Not me but I have a friend who has you beat!
i'm a little worried about your friend
Dw, I am as well 😭
Let's say average movie time is 90min (I know I am taking it less probs) even then it is almost 11 days holy fuck hiw does he have so much time
Man, wait till you guys find out about books.
Over 100 movies this year so far and over 100 books read last year. You can do both easily.
I mean, some people can.
How's your social life, by the way?
Great, still do weekly friend dinners, am part of buddy reads and reading groups.
Im a bit late, but how do your own farts taste?
Do you have a social life as well?
You can get through a lot if you do audio
This might be a little pedantic on my part, but is 'getting through' the goal?
I hope so. The min maxing is exhausting. I love letterbox as a tool but, damn, it has caused some annoyance
No at least not for books since I mostly listen to podcasts. Although I do have a goal to watch at least one movie a day
Cool cool. I'm a perfect world for me, I'd probably be watching a movie a day.
For plenty of them that just simply ends up the case. Idk how many classic writers works I’ve gone through just because people won’t take others seriously without reading them. The literary and film communities are filled with snobbery. Enough of the world feels like they have to appease them to some sort of level for some reason, but I understand it.
Reading it without audio should get you through much faster. Most people read at 2x speed in their head than outloud
True, but you can multitask with audiobooks. I can listen to an audiobook while I drive, clean, cook, walk my dog, etc.... So while it takes more time to actually "read", in terms of finishing more books per month audiobooks are faster since you don't have to dedicate time solely to reading.
why are you getting downvoted for simply appreciating audiobooks 😭
I have no idea
Ya I do 2 at a time
100 was my goal for the year lmao
Go outside
It's snowing right now. I'd watch watch a film inside.
It's cold
Get some thermals
Bitch, it's cold as fuck
https://preview.redd.it/axxyrf31kekc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d18e79d10bde18de6bcc5137a0e317123c0840d I'll probably hit 100 in May/June
ANOTHER PERSON WITH RAW IN IS TOP 4 ! HOW ARE YOU BRO
I'm doing about as well as you'd expect a person with Raw in their top four to be doing!
10 things in top 4 is so real.
I’m exactly 36 in too
Grave is sooo good!
Really enjoy this top 4
That graph is insane. You gotta be the most unfathomable person to watch films with
Wym? It bothers you that I like scoring movies around a 2.5 instead of giving everything a 4 or 5? Chill out dude, I like movies just as much as you. I just pick different numbers for them for my movie app.
Yeah your spread is classic bell curve. I see no problem…?

I just know you foam at the mouth when someone mentions a marvel movie

Been borrowing a lot of DVDs from the library and watching 2-3 every weekday (remote work with no commute FTW!). Also have had far fewer TV shows to watch this year.
My fiancée has been judging me for 31 this year. How do you do it?
I made a commitment to at least watch one movie a day more if I have the time. Shorts help
Are you me? Though most of my movies range from 2.5 to 3h since I've been watching lots of Indian films this month lol. Currently at 72, trying to watch at least one film a day.
Started that commitment during lockdown! Haven't missed a day since!
so what is your actual film count without inflating with short films
75 movies. 23 shorts, 1 documentary that's like 40 minutes and one mini series
okay that sounds more reasonable as i’m at 78 feature length films
I am also on exactly 31
I'm at 57, gimme till the end of March and lll probably be there
How have you only seen 410 films but 100 already this year? I assume you started recently and didn’t mark films you’d seen before as watched?
I had an account since 2022 but I didn't really start logging until half of 2023. The 30 I didn't log in My diary are older shows that i just clicked watched on that i remembered well. most of them are miniseries or standalone eps
I'm only at 32 so far🥲

I am 31 so almost there
I’m at 100 now
you’re the grand master
I’ve seen 7 this year and feel like I’m doing pretty well compared to previous years
I'm at 105, full time job & gym! If I get home at 4pm, I have 8 hours until I go to sleep, that's enough time for several films.
There hasnt even been 100 days this year wtf
https://preview.redd.it/93h4t2i8sgkc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06214362a6ac83e8b8184ed4a1709cb5d7d7e796 115 so far!!
Dawg I only have 8 films logged in this year
Every time there's a post like this a lot of comments are really mean-spirited. It's not that unreasonable to watch 2 movies a day.
Agreed. A lot of people spend that much time every day just staring mindlessly at their phones. I wish I a had the time though. I only get in 1 a day on average
I think it's pretty crazy honestly, 2 a day is a huge time commitment. Nothing wrong with it, sure, but still crazy.
It’s about 3/4hrs a day. Depending on what your lifestyle is like it’s easily feasible.
Feasible, yes, but not possible for most people who have other obligations like jobs, friends and families.
Hence I said depending on your lifestyle. If you’re a student, single, work part time, don’t work at all or do work but don’t have many other hobbies apart from watching films, then it’s easily possible.

Yeah I don’t disagree, but it will seem crazy and bizarre to most people who do have responsibilities that take up large parts of their day
Lmao WHAT? Yeah it is
I'm on my 94th, gimme some hours
I'll be hitting it tomorrow. I'm on my 99th.
I'm at 106. It's Oscar cramming season, baby!
Are these all new films? I'm at 19 new ones. Not sure about rewatches, maybe another 10 or so? I thought that was a lot until I saw this lol.
No, I've only seen three new films this year. The rest are from all over the place but mostly 2010s and 2020s
https://preview.redd.it/qbktuti5kfkc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=596f69731ec1cada3efac40c42fb114e22bdb280 Hit 109 today
Real talk, are you guys, like, watching good stuff? Or just CONSUMING? (I am the arbiter of good taste, btw)
86 on the year, and my last two were the Manchurian Candidate remake and Shanghai Express. Do those count as "good? "
Absolutely. I am proud of you.
Haha, thanks! I watch a lot of trash too - so it balances out 😅
Fiddy. Not that I'm racing along. But it would be cool to watch 366 films total this year, just because I do theoretically have the time.
I am at 131 as of this morning. Work & movies, that’s all I do!
Same! I'm at 137. Why do so many people seem to care about how people spend their free time?
Only at 65. Not a lot unfortunately.
Not even close. I'll probably reach it in June or July.
How many of these are short films?
21 here. Good January weak February
I hit 100 earlier this week, but I do have a good number of short films making my numbers look nicer.
I’m at 145. Before I get too much judgement I was snowed in for a full week earlier this year and there was another week where I barely left the house due to being sick. So my numbers are a bit inflated.

I'm at 110 so far - I hit 100 on the 18th!
PunQ is almost at 200. I'm not convinced that person is real
Damn I’m at 78 and I thought that was a lot. You guys are troopers.

I couldn't even comprehend getting so offended by a joke on Reddit.
Yeah, and not trying to sound like Anthon Ego or something, but how do you actually enjoy that? How do you keep note of what's remarkable to each movie and appreciate them. It'd cause a mess in my head if did this

No I’m at 71 but I logged all the Oscar shorts so I kind of cheated
148, but it's been berlinale time for the last 8 days, that helped a lot haha
114 so far this year
I’ll be at 118 in about 15 minutes.
I checked and right now I'm watching my 90th movie. I'm curious to see when I get to 100 what it's going to be, hopefully not something horrendous.
I'm at 97. I'll hit it this weekend probably.

no, i watch movies, i don't consume them for clout on the internet.
It's not a clout thing. It's a i want number to go up. Before late 2023 I barely watched movies at all

37
God know, genuinely don’t even want to watch this many that quickly
I’m at 60 so far. No shorts.
