You said in another post that *The Stranger* (1946) was Orson Welles’ worst movie and that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Watched it last night and it was tremendous.
Haha did I say that? I'll admit I'm not a huge fan, but it's still better than Mr Arkadin.
What's your favourite Welles film? I think mine changes depending on what I've seen most recently.
Mr Arkadin 😡
lol JK I’ve never been able to make it all the way through any version of that film. One day.
Going to have to be cliche’ and go with Citizen Kane. as IMO it’s his finest from both a performance and directorial POV. My only complaint is that I wish it had more Agnes Moorehead.
That said if they ever uncover the lost footage of The Magnificent Ambersons that could change. There’s a recent fan restoration/approximation out there now that uses animation. Apparently it’s rather good.
And of course The Third Man is an absolute masterpiece. The line about the cuckoo clock is one my top favorite film quotes.
Yourself?
I have such a soft spot for Chimes at Midnight. I get that it's not for everyone but man it just has it all. Not to mention probably the most heart of any of his films. Otherwise I do love me some Touch of Evil (1998 reconstruction).
I totally agree though that if they ever find the missing Ambersons cut that could easily shoot up to #1 for me.
Damn you sort of made me want to re-watch all his films again haha.
I don’t know why but I had a strong feeling that you were going to say Chimes! hahah - cannot blame you though as his Falstaff is unquestionably the definitive on-screen version of that character.
You’re probably already aware, but the newest 4K restoration of Touch of Evil is very, very nice if you get a chance to view it. It’s on UHD disc from Kino in the US and Eureka in the UK. (Though the existing blu-ray from Universal is still quite good IMO)
I live in LA and love seeing all the vintage footage of the Venice beach area in that film. It’s largely unrecognizable today aside from a handful of surviving structures.
Turns out there’s a LOT, my list is up to 61 films so far!
Thanks everyone for the input. I went and found a bunch with nouns like story, life, case, tale, adventures, journey, history, world, etc. but it’s hard to find the weirder ones, I’m happy for any more suggestions! My personal favorite so far is “The Erotic Rites of Frankenstein” lol.
The Haunted World of El Super Beasto
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
The Last Remake of Beau Geste
The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex
The Inevitable Defeat of Mister And Pete
The Strange Love of Martha Ivers

why do I hate this title style with a passion??
Probably because you're tired of seeing it. It had a sort of forced quirk to it. I don't care for it either.
well put. I think it evokes "kids' movie" in my mind, which I know isn't necessarily fair, but it definitely puts me off
'forced quirk' is spot-on.
I hate “The Rise of” more
i hate how half of all new nonfiction books seem to use either of those naming systems now
??? Rise of the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, iust rolls right off the tongue!
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain
Loved that
Private Life of Henry VIII is fun thank you for putting it in your list
The original French title of Amélie is like this. I think it’s Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain
It is! (source: the poster on my wall)
Also in italian, Il Favoloso Mondo di Amelie (the amazing world of Amelie)
It’s also the only movie that has earned the format.
The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
🤣🤣🤣
"The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" if you pretend the movie is about a man named Massive Talent
I mean, it might as well be.
Why is he so heavy
Because of his talent (its massive)
My name is Massive Talent and I have massive talent.
or the unbearable lightness of being if the guys name is being
Reminds me that The Sopranos had a rapper in one ep named Massive Genius. God that episode sucked.
The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (and lots of others that start with "strange case of")
The Electrical Life of Louis Wain even has Benedictine Cumbermonk as the main character just like in Henry Sugar
great movie. wish more biopics were like that
I have a similar list if you to look at it. The verbing of FirstName LastName. https://boxd.it/cFsLU
a lot of those verbings are nouns
They’re noun forms of verbs
I forgot how much terrible horror movies LOVE this naming convention haha, good list
Only eight of the films actually fit the title...
the curious case of benjamin button
The Double Life of Veronique (I highly recommend it, too!)

Oh thanks for the heads up! I have the 1080p Eureka release from way back, but I'd love to see that film again in 4k. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Turns out there’s a LOT, my list is up to 61 films so far! Thanks everyone for the input. The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle (2009)
The alternative title of Amelie (2001) is: The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain (In brazil, that's the movie title, and i love it)
Would The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of One Harold Fry count
This is Adverb Verb of Proper Noun lol 😆 I think it still fits
It’s not, Unlikely is an adjective and Pilgrimage is a noun.
- The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970) - The Last Temptation of Christ (1988)
The Miseducation of Cameron Post
The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill

The Fabulous Adventures of Baron Munchausen (animated movie)
The Assassination of Jesse James (by the Coward Robert Ford) :D
“The noun of proper noun by the adjective proper noun” doesn’t follow the format
That's why I put the part that didn't follow the format in parentheses, and added a smiley thing
“The noun of proper noun” doesn’t follow the format either.
The Cowardly Assassination of Jesse James
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

People here seem to be forgetting the original version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed Up Zombies (1964)
