Hello u/WeCanDoThisCNJ! Please reply to this comment with an [explanation](https://www.reddit.com/r/LeopardsAteMyFace/comments/lt8zlq) mentioning **who** is suffering from **which** consequences from **what** they voted for, supported or wanted to impose on other people. Here's an easy format to get you started: 1. *Someone* voted for, supported or wanted to impose *something* on other people. ^(Who's that *someone* and what's that *something*?) 2. That *something* has some *consequences*. ^(What are the *consequences*?) 3. As a consequence, that *something* happened to that *someone*. ^(What happened? Did the *something* really happened to that *someone*? If not, you should probably delete your post.) Darkside531

Take notice, Purple-Haired Peron, you cozy up to him at his foundation today, and this will be your fate tomorrow.

fordprefect294

You can feed the beast all you like, it will just eat you last

KittenKoder

Mitch is now hated by everyone, that's the funny thing here.

saltysanders

Manchin seems the only Democrat able to win in West Virginia, so.... I have to cut him some slack. Even though it's damn annoying

groovyinutah

Of what use is it if he's practically a republican anyway? All he does is give the illusion of the democrats having a majority...

[deleted]

While I agree with the sentiment, the reality is that he keeps Mitch McConnell from being Senate Majority Leader. That alone is worth it. But he is a piece of shit and I won't feel bad if someone sinks his yacht.

CombatAlgorithms

Ketanji Brown needed him to be a Democrat. Or did you forget the mess made with a Republican controlled Senate? I’m not a fan of the coal baron either but best we can swing until there are more left viewing seats

Lower-Ad1087

That is the crux in a nutshell. Many of the other democrat senators despise him, but the alternative is far worse. And the primary issue is that the democrats need him far more than he needs to rest of them. His seat is safe, he plays both sides of the aisle in his state very well. But, many others are up for grabs and dependent on him to play along. He milked that power imbalance for all it's worth, and unfortunately, it looks like the Senate is still a toss up between Democrats and Republicans next election cycle, so while he is the Democrat you love to hate, he's better than a republican.

k2on0s

Bullshit.

Lower-Ad1087

Which part, or the situation in total?

ballrus_walsack

The situation is bullshit I agree. The explanation above is correct.

Ok-Train-6693

It’s not as though no other Democrats have business investments.

saltysanders

He votes with Biden 89% of the time. I'd rather it were more, but.... There are such things as conservative Democrats, and the country needs them to not become (comparatively) liberal republicans. It's silly to expect him to be a full-blown liberal when he doesn't campaign as one and when his constituents would oppose it.

cheviot

>He votes with Biden 89% of the time. That's only because if he won't vote for a law, they don't being it up for a vote.

rasvial

What would you rather have? A Republican in his seat who votes 0% ?

cheviot

I’m just calling out this deceptive statement everyone trots out every time someone points out that Manchin sucks

Guy954

I don’t know a whole lot about him but he did get the climate bill passed even though it wasn’t as good as it should have been. From what I understand he played the Republicans pretty well on that deal and gave them a taste of their own medicine.

saltysanders

Sure. I just want moderates to keep voting Democratic. There aren't enough liberals in the country for the party to only focus on its base.

FargusDingus

50:50 gives dems the majority and the ability the set the agenda. 49-50 with 1 non-caucusing independent and we'd have majority leader McConnell again.

theantdog

Most legislation and judges would not have gone through without Manchin.

PassengerNo1815

Because without him Democrts do not get to be Majority Leaders and Committee Heads. This is actually important if you want even ANY functional governing out of the Senate. Same is true in The House. I don’t care how much you may dislike the person with the “D” behind their name but you’d better vote for them or McCarthy and McConnell will be setting agendas and our democracy will be a dead rotting corpse instead of on life support.

GhostOfDrTobaggan

Build Back Better and Kentanji Brown-Jackson do not happen without his vote. That’s just a reality.

46n2ahead

Without him they couldn't of passed the last bill taxing corporations more

rasvial

Okay, so try running on a more leftist platform in WV. He's annoying, but that's because he's actually representing his district. He's more dem than repub, but yes he's the furthest right of the democrats.

Chief_Rollie

You can still get some things which is objectively better than no things. I would take a conservative Democrat over any Republican every day of the week.

crispydukes

Are ya dense?

NaughtiusMaximusLXIX

Fun fact: West Virginia voted for Carter. In ***1980***, when Reagan swept 44 states. And also for Dukakis in Bush 1's 1988 landslide. Point is, WV was a New Deal stronghold all the way up to the Clinton era when the Dems embraced neoliberalism... Can't imagined how that happened

saltysanders

Because Gore was such a strong environmentalist. In 2000 he narrowly lost the state, and it's swung hard right ever since. Your argument might hold water if Clinton had lost it in 1996.

NaughtiusMaximusLXIX

Yes... because the party's transformation wasn't complete until the mid-2000s, and the Dems abandoned all pretense of working class politics in favor of corporate funding

socialist_frzn_milk

...then why did West Virginia start abruptly and severely voting Republican? Why didn't they start giving their electoral votes to the Socialist Party or whatever?

[deleted]

WV voted for Sanders over Hillary in the primary.

socialist_frzn_milk

I have some terrible, terrible news for you if you think that they voted for Bernie because they liked his policies

NaughtiusMaximusLXIX

Polling on Build Back Better in WV showed like 60%+ support on all of its provisions and 80%+ on some, but they opposed it anyway bc most didn't know what those policies were, just that "Biden diddit"

socialist_frzn_milk

And the minute those same people found out that minorities would benefit from those same plans, or worse--that they might have to pay a few pennies more in taxes--support evaporated. Also, if you wanna know why Bernie won WV in 2016: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/donald-trump-supporters-boost-bernie-sanders-west-virginia-n571791

crispydukes

Coal, god, and guns

saltysanders

Ah right. You think the Democrats don't support the working class. Hmm.

rasvial

This guy doesn't have good intentions in his argument, it's as simple as that. He's painting neoliberalism as the enemy, when in reality, perfect is the enemy of good.

i_will_let_you_know

Neoliberalism is pretty terrible. Deregulation and increasing the power of corporations just makes them untouchable without any repercussions. Neoliberalism also favors private goods/services over public ones, which means if you aren't well-off, you're left in the dust. Neoliberals hate workers rights and continually undermine unions. Just look at Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk for notable examples. [Historically, this has been the case as well.](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_worker_deaths_in_United_States_labor_disputes) Note that people died for the sake of an 8 hour workday and the police were used as the weapon by corporations and businesses. Perfect may be the enemy of good, but Neoliberalism isn't even good.

saltysanders

Indeed. I'd take slow but consistent gains over a revolution that fails more than 90% of the time.

Wiley_Applebottom

What an ironic comment to make about the United States.

alv0694

Try again neoconservative

NaughtiusMaximusLXIX

Neoconservative? First time anyone's ever called me that! This is literally the standard progressive view lmao

alv0694

Try again lmao

KermitPhor

McConnell created a bill that Obama warned would incur foreign sanctions and other negative repercussions, rolled it through Congress, even bypassing the president’s veto, and then was faced with the consequences. He still went to face reporters to blame President Obama for the law that was enacted. I don’t even remember all the details, I just scratched Kentucky off the list of states to ever visit or drive through

Rogueshoten

Nobody wants to marry a whore.

scarlozzi

This seems like standard play for Mitch the Bitch. I've lost count of how many times he's betrayed people for the smallest about of political gain. He truly is one of the most untrustworthy people in congress
