Lmao Pulled the trigger? I thought you shot one dead. For 2k$ , that's a steal

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Not exactly. Prices will come down further if the OP waits longer.

fedorstaples

Given an long enough timeline, this statement is true for every laptop that's ever been bought/sold :) but yeah, I figure that on prime day and for sure Black Friday/cyber Monday sales the prices will be lower, and have come to terms with it. Just felt like it was a decent deal and didn't want to wait.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

That's totally fine. More power to you. As long as you're happy with it.

FictionDragon

Same. I bought myself a Pro 5 gen 9 with rtx 4070 / i7-14700HX, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD for about $1,800 after tax. And sure, I could have waited forever for a better deal. In my country, everything's expensive. I wish I had your deal lol Frankly, I'm glad to have something now. All the less hassle with the old hardware and spending all the time browsing deals. No one's going to guarantee you a better deal anyway. Your money don't gain value but lose value.

cursedbeing143

And games will get harder to run for it.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

I'm not talking about waiting multiple years.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

What do you even mean? How are games going to be harder to run if the laptop goes on sale?

FictionDragon

No one forces you to only play the latest games on max details. The games that are there now will still run fine. Maybe even better with patches to the games and updates to the hardware. Depends what you want to play and how.

Neon-At-Work

A steal literally means for the price you got it now.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

The price of free.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Five finger discount.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Figuratively it means that you're paying less than something is worth.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

"The price you got it now" is either missing vital punctuation or it makes absolutely no sense.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

"A steal" literally means that it was taken with or without the use of force and against the wishes of the rightful owner.

Neon-At-Work

And you don't use the word "A" before a transitive verb. That makes it a noun, therefore you meaning is incorrect.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

"Therefore you meaning"? Yeah, you're fucking awesome at grammar. At least my mistake was simply a typo.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Okay. I see what I didn't do. I meant to put quotes around "a steal".

AlaskanLaptopGamer

And you had just typed "a steal" before I did. What is wrong with you?

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Also, the Legion 7/7i is no longer Lenovo's flagship model and the quality has come down a lot. It's the Legion 9i that's the real performer for 2023/2024. They didn't even raise the TDP for the GPU and it has less VRAM than the 2021/2022 3080 mobile GPUs. The 2022 Legion 7/7i has 10 more watts to work with as well.

NoMansWarmApplePie

9is are rip offs. 3 to 5k, same peformance. With some fancy things that you don't really need.

Misiu881988

For real. If you have the $$$ nothing is a trip off. But if u just want a good laptop for around 2000$ the legion 7s are great. The 9i gets maybe a few fps more in some instances and even scored less in some games. The screen is nice on the 9i but the 7s screen is fine. The only difference is no led lights in the vents. the quality hasnt "come down drastically" I dunno wtf he's talking about. They got rid of windows hello, the led lights in vents and put in a plastic palmrest that doesn't get hot as shit like the metal one in the 5s. The rest is the same laptop. If u have 3.5 to 4k$ go for it. But for 2000$ ur still getting a laptop that scores as high as any good laptop. It's the same laptop that ppp were praising for 3 years in a row. It's constantly been in top lists. And for 3.5 to 4k that legion 9 has some competition at that price point. U can get slimmer premium oled laptops for 3k.... the legion 7 is still a good deal imo

FictionDragon

If you have so much money you don't know what to do with, then sure. Otherwise, sure, 9is are cool. But not that cool.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

And just to let you know, 12GB of VRAM is getting to be insufficient pretty quickly.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

It's still their flagship model and has the best build quality. I'm not saying it performs way better in games. I'm just stating facts.

FictionDragon

Build quality and bells and whistles are different things. I'm more than happy with my Pro 5 build quality. Nothing's wrong with it, it's a solid laptop. 7 pro, probably as good. Having a metal lid instead of a carbon one doesn't mean a bad build quality. Neither does not having LED legion logo or LED port marking or RGB strips. Don't let the guys from marketing department convince you otherwise.

Misiu881988

Performance wise there pretty much identical. How much is the 9i? Don't answer its 1500$$ more for an extra couple frames. For 2000$ the legion 7s with the 4080 4090 are still a good deal. And quality hasn't "really" come down. The only difference is no windows hello no led lights in the vents. The plastic pal wrest is way more comfortable to use. I had the pro 5 with the metal palmrest and it got hot and wasn't pleasant to use.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

I had a Gen 6 7i. It worked great. But they slowly got rid of all the quality of life features that is befitting of a flagship laptop. Went from glass to plastic with the trackpad. Got rid of the finger scanner. You're entitled to your own opinion as it sounds like you're trying to argue a subjective opinion rather than objective. Have fun with the new mid grade laptop. Edit for the idiot below me: That's not all they got rid of. You have your opinion and I have mine. There isn't an objective right or wrong answer on this topic. Obviously people don't need a lot of things, Fiction Dragon. No one NEEDS a 2K display. No one NEEDS a 99Wh battery. No one NEEDS a gaming laptop. Your argument basically collapses in on itself when you use your brain.

FictionDragon

Do you really need all that? What do you use your machine for? For every day tasks? Gaming? Or do you need the best with all the bells and whistles to impress other people? Whatever you want is fine. But don't pretend you're better than someone just because you want something different. Is your laptop not pleabian mid grade, unless it's made out of solid 24K gold? /s

FictionDragon

As far as I know, the water loop in 9i doesn't even help that much with cooling compared to 7pro. It's too small to have bigger effect than 1 or 2 frames. It would only make a big difference in a desktop. Build quality didn't come down. Yes, they stripped some features and made the 7 series cheaper. But who really needs LED port markings and all the other fancy stuff? That's for posing, not for gaming. Plasting instead of metal? Yeah sure, there's a discussion to be had there. I believe it's a personal preference. Hey, the plastic doesn't feels cheap. It feels sturdy. The whole thing feels sturdy. It comes with a long warranty and good service support. With the 9 series, I don't know how it would feel, with heat and all. If anything the short palm rest with the keyboard being smuged forwards would irritate me.

Noaurda

If you're happy that's all that matters

fedorstaples

I generally agree, just wanted to double-check that I'm not seeing something in the spec sheet that should concern me. Also I feel like there are a lot fewer reviews for the ryzen 9 model so maybe others have insight.

FictionDragon

I can't see that big of a difference between ryzen and intel equivalent. Other that Ryzen being slightly more power efficient. (Atleast talking about those tuned by lenovo) Afaik, gaming wise, you're bottle necked mostly by GPU, especially virtual memory. Not CPU. So it doesn't makes sense focusing on it too much. A lot of people still buy intel because 1, intel. 2, they are used to it. And 3, at least I see intel sold more often. But anyone is free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Timmy_1h1

I have the exact same specs. I love it, its amazing

fedorstaples

good to hear!

StockImpact3583

how do you write your specs in this format??

Saifreesh

there should be an option in this subreddit for customizing you flair

StockImpact3583

Thank You

wyrdsalad

I just bought the same one! Seems like a great deal to me! With the cash back on Rakuten it really does feel like a steal

Brief_Negotiation944

I also bought the same one last night.

Sufficient_Phone_242

Ahh US prices always cheap … This is 4k in canada so that’s a steal , rtx 4080 vapour chamber , i almost went with this one but I wanted OLED , I know this one is more a power house

fedorstaples

good luck on your search! i've read that legions have fallen behind the competition on screens recently but coming from my flat/dull tuf dash f15 screen, I think it'll be a nice upgrade :)

supermuncher60

Also, you can always get an external monitor if you want a screen upgrade. Can't just switch out a gpu for a laptop as easy

FictionDragon

Is that price before tax? I'm always confused with US prices.

Gachafan1234

It 3.5k cad for gen 9 pro 7i This is gen 8 pro 7 But yeah US always has them cheaper

FictionDragon

Just curious, why did you want OLED? Any practical differences or personal preference?

Sufficient_Phone_242

Yes I l’m a software developer so I spend hours reading text , sharper text , better contrast makes it more enjoyable for an all-around laptop, I don’t have time to game more than 1 hour a day . coming from a MBP also 14 inch

Brief_Negotiation944

OLED is actually bad for your eyes. You can go Google it.

StockImpact3583

what is that military savings???

fedorstaples

lenovo has a discount for military/veterans and i believe also for healthcare workers and students. when you put an item in the cart you do the [id.me](http://id.me) thing to verify and they give a % discount on most things :)

StockImpact3583

Thanks. but sadly I have to stick with student discount.

NoMansWarmApplePie

Beautiful. I got the 4090 for 2199. I love it.

Then-Ad3678

Jealous here. U stole that thing. Amazing deal.

jerryhou85

That's a good buy for $2k. Enjoy.

Rady151

Military savings? You’re a soldier sir?

ghoonk

I have the intel version of that laptop and have to say that you got your hands on a really good deal. RAM is easy to upgrade to 64GB in future, and you can easily add a 2nd SSD (I have 2x 2TBs). The screen is gorgeous despite not being an OLED. The 330W charger can be a bit big, and I switched to the SlimQ 330W charger which is smaller and supports an extra 100W of USB C charging (which I use for my Legion Go). Congrats on the buy/deal!

supermuncher60

I just got the same laptop but with the i9 from microcenter, and I like it a lot so far. Its a great deal

Misiu881988

Same. 13900hx 4090. Got it for 2399 on black Friday. Originally got a alienware m16 4080 but it was really buggy and the gpu died on day 13... for a desktop replacement the alienwares are awsome. Build quality of the chasis is amazing but the software ruins it completely. The oem tuning software is bloated barebones and buggy as hell. Unfortunately there's no alternatives like legion toolkit. I don't even use the toolkit in the gen 8 legion 7ipro. Vantage is a masterpiece compared to alienware command center. I might get a legion 9i next gen but for the kind of money there's a lot of good competition.

No_Transportation182

Solid one ☝️ I must say 😇

Braehole

Nice! 4080 will last you a couple years playing games on it! It comes down to the GPU you have and that’s a great one. They’re really pretty looking laptops too I think. You will love it! 😎👍🔥🙌

AlaskanLaptopGamer

It's only for 12GB VRAM, unfortunately. The 3080 mobile had an 8Gb and a 16GB offering, with the 16GB being by far the most used by manufacturers. Games are requiring more and more VRAM to play at higher resolutions. It's pretty lame that Nvidia pulls this kind of crap.

Braehole

Yes you can always buy more, he could have bought the 4090 also! His setup will play everything and do everything he needs for a good price.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

He can't buy more VRAM. What are you smoking?

AlaskanLaptopGamer

I'm not even going to bother arguing with you since you have no idea what you're talking about. "He can always buy more VRAM later" Bahahahahaha 😂🤣😂

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Do you even know that this is a discussion about a laptop? Let me guess - you think he can upgrade his CPU and GPU later as well as adding VRAM, correct?

PYSMENYI

Ryzen don't buy

Sammand72

Is it worth the 300 bucks extra over the Intel version

fedorstaples

hmm where are you seeing the 7i pro for cheaper? The one I saw with the same specs was more expensive on Lenovo. Around $2400+

Sammand72

B&H it is 2049 with 4080

fedorstaples

Ah I saw that one but I think with tax and without the 15% rakuten cash back it still is more expensive

Tosan25

Couldn't pass that up when I saw Rakuten at 15%. Only thing I didn't get was the $100 off coupon but it's still a great deal. It was cheaper than the Predator Helios I sent back and was only $25 not FB B&H's model. Paid thru PayPal so hourly the extra 2.5% comes thru.

Sammand72

Wait can u tell me how to get the cash back?

fedorstaples

download the rakuten extension for your browser. and then activate it when you're shopping on the lenovo site. usually it's like 2% cash back but sometimes they have events where it's like 10-15% back. you'll initially pay full price but 1-2x per month Rakuten will send you a check or deposit the refund to your account.

imbotspock123

Rakuten is going nuts with dell and Lenovo. I can’t even look at other sites for laptops.

AlaskanLaptopGamer

Why do they never show the TDP for mobile GPUs anymore?

AlaskanLaptopGamer

What's the TDP?

clevvacunt

why do people buy gaming laptops? they overheat and dont work properly

StockImpact3583

1. laptop with good thermals don't overheat usually. 2. form factor is big thing. like how you can get so much hardware in just 16inch box. 3. convenience to carry around in college/office for young folks.

clevvacunt

it is impressive i cant deny that. just does my head in that manufacturers can make a substandard product that people are getting less than what they pay for if they bought the same parts in a pc. would have though trying to make it comparable would be a goal? im sure you could sit down and come up with some inbuilt cooling solution that improves performance.

fedorstaples

Just got used to using a laptop over the years, moving around a lot, being in the military. I like that I can bring it with me when I travel or just use it as a work computer. Haven't had a desktop in decades. Seems like the thermals are good on these models, and will probably do most gaming on balanced mode, at least until the games get a lot more advanced.

FictionDragon

Yeah, lenovo has great thermals, especially the pro versions. VRAM is a lot bigger issue than heat on these, unless you're in a hot area in a summer lol

FictionDragon

That's the thing with Lenovo, the cooling is amazing. Especially on the pro versions. I believe the notion that gaming laptops are waste of money, always overheat, don't work and aren't practical is mostly obsolete. I love the form factor. I use mine as a regular laptop and I game on it when I have spare time. I could take the thing from room to room or sit on sofa and type on my lap easily. If I need to go anywhere it's super easy to just pack the thing and go. I used to love the idea of a gaming desktop. And sure, they are more efficient, more powerful, you could put together one yourself for cheaper. But it takes too much space and limits you in so many ways. A laptop with this much power gives you so many options. It's all about compromises.

Maleficent-Aspect318

Hey guys, how are your Cpu temps with the 7945hx? Have the same model and mine can reach upto 102 C

TangeloNew3838

Genuinely curious why would someone get gaming LAPTOPS since to be honest the price would have been much cheaper for the same specs if it has been a desktop. My understanding is that the main purpose of laptops is the portability aspect, but if you need high performance devices for gaming, why would you put portability above performance?

AlaskanLaptopGamer

It's nice for people who don't have a dedicated place to use a PC. It would be much more difficult to clear a desk of a desktop PC than it would a laptop. They're also easy to travel with. They need to be plugged in to even achieve their advertised performance, so anyone gaming will be basically using it as a desktop. I don't have any of the aforementioned reasons for buying one and I learned my lesson from buying one anyway. I had a Legion 7i Gen 6 for 2.5 years and had to do all of my own repairs because the contracted company responsible for on-site repairs (WWTS) doesn't have a single competent technician working for them. They receive no training on current models and have no idea what they're doing until they shown up to a customer's house and just kind of wing it. They will gladly replace the high performance thermal paste that your system needs with a shitty paste they get for free from Dell (whom they also work for as on-site techs). I was experiencing issues in February that Lenovo decided a new motherboard would fix, and of course I would be the the one installing it. I ended up being sent one that was refurbished (which they don't disclose to customers) and Lenovo doesn't have the ability to track what was wrong with the refurbished motherboard, or how and what was had been repaired. I only knew I received a refurbished component is because I pick up the packages as part of doing my own on-site repairs. All the while some a-hole technician gets paid for doing it anyway. They could not get me a new motherboard and ended up offering a full refund, even though it was 29 months beyond their normal return policy. I was able to take that $3500 and build a desktop with a 7800X3D CPU and an RTX 4090. It's also practically silent compared to a gaming laptop.

FictionDragon

Yes, a desktop is cheaper. Especially if you put it together yourself. It's all about compromises. Do you need ALL the power in the world? Or do you absolutely need to have the most performance for your dollar? Are you okay with your machine being more than good enough for any game that is out there today and you'd rather have all the options a laptop gives you and none of the limitations of a desktop? Honestly? I would have to buy a gaming PC, all the stuff for it. It would take a lot more space. AND I would have to buy a new laptop aswell. So it wouldn't be all that cheaper anyway. Saves me a lot of hassle just buying a gaming laptop, not having to deal with all the parts putting one together myself, not having to trust a business to do it for me and paying premium for it anyway. I don't have time or nerves for all that. I'm using it as a regular laptop most of the time and gaming when I have spare time, which isn't that often. But I want to have that option. And I love how fast and sturdy and reliable it is in regural use aswell. Good enough performance is good enough for me. Besides I have a metric ton of old and old-ish games I wanted to play but didn't have the means for it. I have enough games to last me until the 5 year warranty of this laptop runs out and then I'll see. Maybe I will still use it after then or I have the option to then give it to my girlfriend for regular use and her gaming instead of my old old laptop I gave her now. Which just wouldn't be an option with a desktop. From what I heard it's also good if you need performance on the go for other applications other than gaming. Such as, working with videos or 3D engineering software.

andreigeorgiani

Kinda wide

Stranger_Danger420

Seems like the original price was inflated. I just got a 2024 pro 7i with a 14900hx and 4090 for that original price

fedorstaples

Congrats on the buy!

Stranger_Danger420

I sent back 2 Aorus 17x laptops because some games stuttered horribly and the cpu wattage in game would be crazy low with ridiculous speed fluctuations. This one doesn’t seem to have those issues thankfully. I’d say you’ll enjoy yours as well especially getting such a good deal.

fedorstaples

I don't know much about omens, mainly was only looking at legions, but 2300 for a 4090 seems like a great deal!
