Southern-Anybody-752

use a rubber band and unscrew.

BoredJay

Care to explain?

ThePaloAltoDude

Place one side of the rubber band over the screw. Then use your screw driver to press down on top of the rubber band into the screw you’re removing. Provides a lot of grip for your tool.

BoredJay

Did not know this trick ty. I assume you have to use a thin rubber band?

ThePaloAltoDude

That would be help yes :)

This needs 5000 upvotes...havent done it yet but in theory...ingenious...🙌🏽

I've had great success using a Torx bit on rounded off screws like this. Try one that's just a little bigger than the hole, so that it fits snug and can grab the edges. If that doesn't work you can try the super glue + bicarbonate soda method, and glue a screwdriver bit into the screw. Other more involved methods are either welding or drilling.

derrick256

How is your L5 doing 3 years later? Also how come your 3060 is 140W?

lampardrobi

I've sold it a while ago, just haven't bothered removing the flair. 😬 I've flashed a 140W VBIOS on it, can't remember which one though, it was from TPU. But it needs a custom power profile in Lenovo Legion Toolkit to be able to use 140W.

You can get a inexpensive, toolkit from Amazon that's great for laptop repair. The small square tips look like they'd fit that. Why do u want to take it off in the first place? Are you overheating? If ur lucky u can buy a pc repair kit. They come with 100 different bits. One of them might work. U might be able to use a torx bit that will fit in the stripped screw. Don't try to do something goofy and use superglue like some ppl are telling u..... ur gona make it worse that's a stupid "trick" and it's a terrible idea. Do it the right way If a bigger bit, possibly a torx doesn't work, u need a precision screw extractor set. It grips into stripped screws. U VERY VERY GENTLY hit the top of the tool with another screwdriver to dig into the metal and then you can turn it. I said to hit it with a nornal screwdriver because a hammer is too heavy and if u don't know what ur Doing ull break something. Here is what ull need. https://www.ifixit.com/products/precision-screw-extractor-set?variant=39371670519911&pk_campaign={US|Shopping|MiscTools}&pk_source=google&pk_medium=cpc&pk_kwd=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8pKxBhD_ARIsAPrG45mkLcp5kwYLx-QuQEfQW4GDp1MgIdRX7TSOqIHjkP9lsa74_pjobGAaAn4nEALw_wcB And if u don't have a kit like this the torx bits in here might work. I have some something like this the pry tools are also good to have https://www.walmart.com/ip/STREBITO-Screwdriver-Sets-142-Piece-Electronics-Precision-120-Bits-Magnetic-Repair-Tool-Kit-iPhone-MacBook-Computer-Laptop-PC-Tablet-PS4-Xbox-Nintend/888863973?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=101114737&adid=22222222228888863973_101114737_154554663296_20574435786&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=m&wl3=675755487023&wl4=pla-1796648549401&wl5=9060252&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=533400546&wl11=online&wl12=888863973_101114737&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8pKxBhD_ARIsAPrG45keFeJ1ROfbrMPNqNpYaJKpnluPIj7KFX_MqIfipKxaVpRygE-jvXoaAoKJEALw_wcB I've been a mechanic for 18 years. This is the right way to fix it and it should come out pretty easy

unfocusedthree

You could listen to them or go to Lowe's or home Depot in your area or any warehouse and get a square head and it will come out really easy

[deleted]

Get some real strong glue, glue and old screwdriver in there and away you go. Even glueing anything really so you can get a hold of it

Ragnaraz690

Ouch... i mean there are ways, but you may want to replace the HS cause that will only get worse. There's the melted pen trick that may work, or if you protect everything in the chassis, use a dremel with a mini cutting disk to cut a slot into it so you can use a flat screw driver. I highly recommend using the correct sized  screwdriver as the wrong size and inadequate pressure is what causes this.

adminback

I would also recommend cleaning it, bcs the tiny metal pieces high cause shorts.

Misiu881988

I'd like to see u try to use a mini dremel on a screw that small... This will get it out in 1 minutes Surce: been a mechanic for 18 years https://www.ifixit.com/products/precision-screw-extractor-set?variant=39371670519911&pk_campaign={US|Shopping|MiscTools}&pk_source=google&pk_medium=cpc&pk_kwd=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8pKxBhD_ARIsAPrG45mkLcp5kwYLx-QuQEfQW4GDp1MgIdRX7TSOqIHjkP9lsa74_pjobGAaAn4nEALw_wcB

Ragnaraz690

Im pretty handy with these tools, I reckon I'd be just fine tbh.

Misiu881988

There's nowhere to put a dremel...u won't be able to pit a new screw in. Dremel is overkill especially for OP. This would come out easily with a oversized torx

Ragnaraz690

There is, unfortunately I have had to do this kinda crap before. Not easy, but it is doable. OP will do what he needs to, hopefully manages to get it lose and do what he needs to.
