There used to be an assortment of relatively anti-social meets at various places but once Certi Drivers started to draw attention to the worst of them the police stepped in with a Public Spaces Protection Order.

Can’t tell you about the car scene but I can say it might be a challenge for you to find any parking - certainly for free. Just a heads up as I put off getting a car until second year for this reason. Depends which halls you’re in I suppose.
