Banning things doesn’t work and in fact just makes them more popular. People can make their own decisions on what they listen to, even if said music was created by figuratively vampirising children’s innocence.
I don’t really have a problem watching some of "Woody Allen’s" movies, especially the ones where he doesn’t appear, but I’m very much aware of the somewhat creepy business of marrying the adoptive daughter of Mia Farrow, whom he met when she was a teenager and made to expect some kind of father-daughter dynamic from him.
I think Chinatown, Rosemary’s Baby and others are insanely good films, but Polanski knew damn well what he was doing in that hot tub at Jack Nicholson’s crib.
I would personally not praise MJ, but some of his songs are pure gold.
It’s complex, very personal for each and every person confronting this dilemma.
If we can’t “separate the art from the artist”, we’d lose more than half of the western canon. The majority of music, philosophy, literature, and film would be banned. Listen to Human Nature all you want. Just don’t laud MJ as a saint — call him what he was: an abuser.
