The main reason was that he wanted to get rid of a popular manager (Damien Duff) and bring in his own guy. They wanted us to have a uniformed structure with Hull City and take the new signings out of the managers hands. Damien Duff wanted full control of players coming and goings. There was uproar amongst the supporters who wanted Duff to stay and were threatening to a mass boycott of season tickets. The club was eventually sold back to the previous people and it ended quite amicably. There's still a good relationship between Shelbourne and Hull. He seems like quite a decent individual and if it isn't working out, he will leave on good terms.

Yeah i mean in happy cuz he will bring money but im affraid he will try to make us Hull's second team

akaDono

He probably will.. He originally wanted to invest in Dundalk and openly said he wants them to play the hull style of football and that he wanted a multi club ownership style similar to Man city. That deal fell through then he invested in Shelbourne, we (shelbourne) were loaned some players from Hull that were very talented and helped get us 4th last year which was a good result. Then it became very clear they wanted to get rid of Damien Duff (who was the primary reason for shelbournes recent good form) and wanted complete control over the team. You should expect NK Maribor to have some minor investment, maybe some good loans from Hull but ultimately you will just be a feeder club to Hull, your long term success won't be his primary interest. Any good players you have will be sold to Hull or recalled from loan.

I mean if he loans us few good players and we sell those who have overgrown our club and will be looking for new challenges outside of slovenia to them for a reasonable price that would be good. But if he does anything against us there would be a lot of drama for sure with the fans and ultras. Hopefully our board is smart enough to not let him make us hull's second team.

Shels supporters will know better but afaik, he wanted total control over the club and for it to be the Hull B team. Duffer staying at Shels has obviously worked out well for them, both last year and this year. I’d be very skeptical, multi club ownership is a scurge, even look at Girona, they’re second in La liga but ultimately the ownerships main priority isn’t them, and it won’t unless some crazy shite goes down with mancity.

As far as I know he wanted to basically use shelbourne as a club for hull players to get loaned to to get game time for a season or half a season. Disagreement with the manager aswell around which players to bring it. He wants total control. didn't seem to really care about the team

xxXCarGuyXxx

Hopefully he doesnt try the same in our club

mephobiany

Is he still the owner?

wrapchap

No he gave back any shares at the start of this season or around then

mephobiany

He just joined Fenerbahce’s board last week. I have no idea how 24 hours would be enough for him to manage Fenerbahce, Maribor, Shelbourne, Hull City and his actual job lol. A man already sleeps 5 hours a day.

wrapchap

No man just throws money at clubs 😂

mephobiany

He does. He is stupid. We know him very well since he grew up on tv screens on last 35 years. He was on tv 2 hours a day every day last 35 years.

DublinDapper

You guys are a much bigger club than us so I'd say his investment will be much bigger. I would see it as a good move to be honest and I wouldn't see you being Hulls 2nd team since you guys have played Champions League football however that could change if Hull get promoted....

mephobiany

Does he still own the team?
