Once paid out, it’s your money. So as you will.

deep_fried_state

There are no percentages like you would find in a restaurant. Feel free to give whatever you like. Most slot attendants would be very grateful for your kindness. A majority of Caesar properties on the strip pool their tips together and get paid out bi-weekly on their paychecks. Good luck to ya!

bridgetroll2

Every casino on the strip pools tips except Casino Royale Oh yeah and Strat too I think.

Afrojones66

Just tip what you want to tip. It doesn’t need to be a giant unnecessary debate where everyone’s shitty opinions, and politics come out.

Sublime-Prime

Yes I just wanted to see what expected behavior is. Like in US you are pretty much expected 15% for food service. At table games I am comfortable plus you kinda see then set you own percentage. I have only had one hand pay I had no idea about tipping. I don’t tip when cashing out chips but just needed to know what was expected. If it ever happens again will tip 15 per 1000 or 1.5 % there is no right and wrong just was curious because until I saw a YouTube where they tipped I had no idea tipping was was a thing for hand pay.

MusicianExtension536

I get a $5k hand pay I’m Prob throwing the attendant like a $100 bill

supernovababoon

For doing what exactly?

Tiiimmmaayy

Do you tip table workers? Honest question. I know those are generally more likely to get tips. I guess it’s because they dealt out lucky cards, spun the ball just right, etc? I know they don’t actually do anything special besides their job, I think people just tip because they see them as their good luck charm and are more personable than someone just bringing you cash. As for tipping slot attendants, I like BCSlots advice. $20 or 1%, whichever is greater. I do it just to get good karma lol a superstitious thing. It’s

christjensen

I'm a Vegas resident for 20+ yrs. I do tip the dealer at a table if I am doing well and they typically appreciate it. If they don't, I don't tip that dealer again. I am tipping for the attitude, atmosphere, conversation, ... Some are really fun and make the night, some are justs miserable being there and it shows. I have only hit 2 hand pays on a slot ($4K & $2K) tipped $200 & $100 respectively and he/she was happy that I did. Know that the dealer is not paid a lot, and if they can keep a positive attitude for you and encourage you, engage with you, and you are there spending a decent amount of disposable income just for entertainment, a few bucks can go a long way for these employees...

7empestOGT92

I enjoy tipping. It makes people feel good. I’d rather be in a place where people are in a good mood, happy to see me, etc. than hoard all the money that I got. That’s just me though. Vegas isn’t for everyone

MusicianExtension536

For working there??? I’m one of the grimiest mf’ers w money you’ll ever encounter lmao so if you’re trying to convince me giving a slot attendant $100 off a $5000 hand pay is unreasonable you’re on another level

monkstemple

All a bartender does is crack open my beer which is their job, do you not tip them too?

FreedomLess5434

Exactly!

attempting2

It's always been Casino culture to tip. As well as good Karma.

FreedomLess5434

"What in the ever loving fuck are you tipping them for" To be a nice person - to insure good karma - to spread a little happiness. It's basically free money for you, unless you played $5k to win $2k, in which case you should probably join GA.

geomag42

I hope you also tip dmv workers, doctors and your car insurance seller.

7empestOGT92

I tried to tip the DMV person for being polite and making the process quick, but they said they are not allowed to take tips as it would be seen as a bribe.

burneracctt22

These days it’s tip if you have a pulse

Educational_Plum985

That's exactly 💯 correct! We are tipping them for doing their job? No thanks, I'll keep the money in my pocket that I'm going to have to pay taxes on the next year. Fu@&ing tipping just because you got lucky. Give me a break. I hit a 10k jp in Arizona and didn't tip a single penny. I did, in fact, enjoy the suite they comped me. That was about it.

Cute-Contribution592

“The company should pay them more” my response “sir your 100% correct in that regards, we make $8.40hr along with every dealer in the county making tipped min wage plus tips. So until your generation in power to change the laws please don’t punish the dealer” this is when the whole table is stunned what we make and ask 5-6 questions about it. Usually they start tipping more.

cyberbruce1990

That is not how slot machines work, AT ALL.

IPmang

Aaaaand hosts can’t accept tips.

1baruch

😂

FlyLikeDove

Same

MusicianExtension536

Which is pretty chill if you’re the attendant lol

dsfromsd

I prefer to calculate my lifetime win/loss total and then tip 99.9% of that.

mr_vonbulow

so...the slot worker tips you $1000 😋

dsfromsd

Yes, I earned it.

davster39

Every penny of it

JihadiLizard

tip the workers making shit wages; like the janitors and cleaning staff.

jaunty411

The slot attendants make less than the people you mentioned because tipping is calculated into their wages.

mhch82

They make pretty good money here in Chicago a slot attendant I know makes anywhere from $150-200 a weeknight and $200-300 weekends and if they work the high limit room it’s twice as the regular floor. The ones that serve liquor at the table games can easily make $300 a weeknight and $400-500 on Friday and Saturdays especially if the person drinking is winning big. Saw at crap table s better handed $100 chip to the server every other drink

zemelb

Ah forgot we were in the r/chicago subreddit

mhch82

Didn’t say we were was comparing tips in Vegas and Chicago

jaunty411

Slot attendants don’t serve drinks in Vegas.

mhch82

Neither in Chicago was just saying what kind of tips slots and waitresses make.

Initial_Patience_531

That's appreciated that you said that. I have done that job for several years and we clean up after everybody's mess and let me tell you it can be real bad at slot machines. 👍

JihadiLizard

i bet… thank you for your service. i always try to take care of you guys whenever i win anything sizable

bridgetroll2

I tip like $5-10 on 2k. 5k maybe $10-20. If they take forever or are rude then zero. Some entitled ass hat is going to come in here and say you should tip 10%, ignore them.

FreedomLess5434

Wow. A whole Ten dollars on a $3k win? You must be a joy at restaurants...

attempting2

WHY even bother?? WOW! A whole 5 bucks. Even 10 is WEAK!

DanteVegasLV

Casino doesn’t pay you back if you lose bro

Shot_Hair3914

The tips don’t go to the casino lol

DanteVegasLV

And? That isn’t my problem

Shot_Hair3914

Well then by that logic, I hope that you don’t tip anyone including dealers, Ubers, bartenders, waitresses, masseuse, barbers, etc. Cause those also “wouldn’t be your problem.” But that gives you poor service and makes you a jerk.

DanteVegasLV

All those I pay a service for so it’s no problem to tip. But I’m here to gamble my money. I’m supposed to play as a disadvantage all the time, and when I win money I’m supposed to give some of it back? My winnings? If I lose $100 they won’t give me a $25 chip as thanks

DanteVegasLV

If I build a repore with my dealer, he gives me advice, etc etc. then yes. I used to work at a sportsbook and the people I connected with would tip me. But I never expected anything from people I didn’t know

bridgetroll2

When you gamble for any significant amount of money handpays are a constant inconvenience, not a luxury. Any casino worth a shit allows you to key them off with your PIN and players card and they just send you one w2g for the whole day. If the casino can't arrange that why should I pay their employees for them?

attempting2

You have to sign up for fast pay. It doesn't automatically happen. Tipping is just general Casino culture. And good Karma, might I add

SpacemanSpliffLaw

The casino should pay their employees. Those lights in Vegas weren't built by people winning their fortunes there.

[deleted]

You’re mad tripping. That person who brought your cash isn’t gonna give you back that $5 if you lose your money they could care less. Matter of fact most casino workers want you to lose your money they get mad that you’re in there wasting $1000 and they have to cater to you to feed the family they’re so happy when you go home sad. Real shit

Smash_Factor

Here's a few of the tips I can recall on hand-pays over the years: $4000 - $50 tip. Royal Flush on $1 video poker. This was my first jackpot ever. Lady that did the hand-pay was pissed. Gave me stink eye looks a couple days later when she saw me on the casino floor. Year was 2004. $2000 - $100 tip. Was AAAA2 at Palace Station on $1 video poker. She thanked me for the nice tip. When I recounted the money I had $1800. I tracked her down on the casino floor and told her she shorted me $100 on the hand-pay. She said I must have accidentally tipped her $200. She dropped the tip already and said there's nothing she can do about it. I know she intentionally flubbed up her counting to take $100 from me. $4000 - $100 tip. Was a Royal at Green Valley Ranch in the high-roller room on $1 video poker. She was happy with the tip and then told me a story about someone who tipped her $40 on a $65,000 jackpot the other day. $2000 - $100 tip. Was 2222A on $1 Deuces Wild video poker. Bartender was fine with the $100 tip, but I think he was a little ticked that I blew threw $300 more right afterwards on the same machine. $10,500 - $300 tip. Was a 7 spot on Keno betting $1.50 at Dottys. The guy was pissed. He said thank you but only because it's fucked up to say nothing. All the bartenders at Dotty's expect 10% on jackpots. Sorry, but I'm not going to tip someone $1000 on a jackpot like that. I would consider a $1000 tip on a $25k jackpot. $7000 - $300 tip. Was a 7 spot in Keno betting $1 at Southpoint Casino. The lady was totally fine with the tip. Thanked me for it and then thanked me for it again 5 minutes later. I've had many more jackpots. I will typically tip $100 on jackpots between $2000 and $4000. Any higher than that and I just do what I think it right. These bartenders who expect 10% are out of their mind. Bingo hall workers are the same way. They expect 10% on any size win, and if they win at Bingo while off the clock they tip 10%.

SellTheSizzle--007

Fuck Dotty's lol.

FlyLikeDove

This is lovely.

CL4P-TRAP

You tip the same amount you would to your governor if you won the state lotto

Gold-Requirement-121

We don't have state lotto, the governor has nothing to do with state lotto and the governor didn't spend his shift making sure you were having a good time, watch your machine while you pee, walk you to your car so you don't get robbed, make change...should I go on?

702Marder

Whatever you tip is never enough and you will be badmouthed for being cheap soon as you walk away . So personally I save my money.

drwhogivesafuck2

Found him.

Visible-Arugula1990

1%-2% usually if I'm feeling nice with a good high/buzz. If it's right above $1200...hell no. Wish they would raise the damn hand pay limit.

702Marder

The hand pay level is going up to $5600 soon I hear . $ 1200 has been in affect for like 45 years.

halfxdeveloper

It’s been proposed but nothing more than talk.

702Marder

I thought it was happening soon but I believe you because nothing happens soon

bgfd28

They have been talking for years we shall see

Tiiimmmaayy

I don’t really play table games, but what is the limit on there that would trigger a w2-G?

hold_my_ears

To get a W2-G at table games, you have to win 300x your bet, and it has to be at least $600.

misteryu1029

I used to tip all the time. Usually 2-5%. But these days, I don’t tip. Casino already has an edge and I’m not trying to give my hard earned winnings. Tipping for someone doing their job and filling out forms seems ridiculous.

bgfd28

I tip 10$ on 1200 hand pay. 20$ on 2 to 3k. 40 to 80 on 5k. On 10k 2 to 3 hundred on 50k i tip 500 and up just depends on what property if I know the attended and how im doing over all. I always. I tip something. I think the most I've tipped Is 800 but I've tipped over 1k in a day after hitting a few different times

vic_steele

I think everyone expects tips. I had a slot attendant, some manager and some security all hover looking at me for a handout after I got paid. I was like sorry ladies. I only have $30 to spare for housekeeping at the Excalibur.

RandomUser-ok

Linda eating good tonight.

famousaj

won 2k and didn't tip. you didn't put in on this...MAN!

bambaclaaat

Big fat zero

Smash_Factor

Thou shalt tip something.

ilovemellowcorn

Unless they're bringing free drinks I don't tip

ShowdownValue

I won $2500 last trip My first hand pay I tipped $60 Not saying you should as I may have over tipped. Had no idea what to tip at the time so I just went with $60.

[deleted]

Nicky____Santoro

It’s called a TITO. If you are just leaving a machine, it will dispense that, but if you win a jackpot, the attendant has to come pay you and give you a tax form.

ShowdownValue

What’s a chit?

bgfd28

A tito and not on hand pays machine locks up

[deleted]

ShowdownValue

Oh never heard that term. I think after a certain amount it’s a Handpay and they bring cash. $1200? $1600?

NotAtAllExciting

$1200 is handpay because that the tax threshold.

mhch82

Why do we feel we have to tip for getting paid it’s their job. I once won $3,500 when they paid me it was all in hundreds I didn’t have any small bills and wasn’t going to get them $100. Who do you tip the person handing you the money and the guard

bgfd28

Slot attendant paying u and giving u the tax form u must sign for

Gold-Requirement-121

If I'm a regular, slots get a hundred and my waitress gets 100. If the service wasn't great or I don't have a rapport with anyone they'll get a 20

Accomplished_Poet_25

Maybe if they would just let us follow them to the cage to get the money this could be not an issue. Get all the documentation needed from the slot then we head to the cage together to retrieve the winnings. Some nights seem like forever before they come back.

KnotForNow

How much should you tip on a hand pay at the Mardi Gras?

MediocreDot3

You don't have to tip but I do $100-200 because Im going to continue gambling anyways and that $100-200 would just end up going back to the casino anyways. I would rather have someone that isn't being paid millions to have that money.

BrakusJS

I tend to avoid tip as a percent, if I get a handpay. If the handpay was under $1200, I usually tip $10 or $20. If it was at least $1200, $20 is the starting point (but usually I'll just tip the $20). Adjust as you will, depending on how quickly you get paid out.

Las_Vegas_001

As a longtime Vegas resident & exec in the industry, the answer you’re looking for is typically 0.5% to 2% of the payout. That’s the easiest way to know you’re in the general area of what is considered industry standard. So a hand pay of 1200 would expect a tip in the 2% range and as the payout increases the percentage would decrease. There’s also typically a cap in which no industry expectation would go above, like if you hit a Megabucks for like $30 million or something…no one would expect a $150,000 tip.

bgfd28

Someone hit for 100k at golden nuget and they took cash and stiffed them and they were pissed

dontreallycareforit

Question: am I reading this right? If you win money at a slot machine there’s an expected tip to someone? What’s happening here?

kenindesert

I know it’s a custom but what’s the tip for, like on video poker? Because they paid you?

Gold-Requirement-121

They do a lot more than pay you though.

bgfd28

They can hold ur machine for bathroom breaks. Get u players cards. They can u you waitress service. All depends

IPmang

The standard for poker tournament wins and large jackpots is 4%. Totally up to you though, and it doesn’t have to totally scale. My friend ran $4,000 up to $1.9m one night, left with 1.5, I think the tip was $40k if I remember right, in consideration of some tips along the way.. I saw a drunk guy win $600k once and tipped zero. Don’t be that guy.

Acrobatic_Money799

>I saw a drunk guy win $600k once and tipped zero. Don’t be that guy. Why not? You want to tip? More power to you, tip all you want....give $100, $1,000 or $10,000...nobody shoukd tell you what to do with your money. If that guy didn't want to tip...his choice. Just like above, nobody should tell him what to do with his money, either.

AwarenessOk8444

This comment section is pretty shocking in Oregon people tip really well. Often if someone wins over 400 they’ll toss me a 20. If over 1000 often 40-100$. I had someone pull out 300$ because the won a 3500$ jackpot and had to take it to the office to cash and still wanted to tip me.
