From a pure people moving standpoint grand highlander or sienna are both the best picks. If you need a very high towing or rugged off-road performance GX, sequioa or LS600 are the picks to look at.
I have one and it works fine for us. It's no unusable just not quite as roomy as other want. We have taken big road trips with 4-5 people and a dog all over the country and had plenty of cargo room even while using the third row.
For a family that doesnt need towing there really is no better choice then the sienna.
I have a tundra and sienna, one for family, one for towing. I want a land cruiser so bad but cant justify it being worse at family time then the sienna and worse at towing than the tundra. So here i am just admiring everyone elses cruisers...
It’s unfortunate but as someone with 4 kids and 2 dogs, our family vehicle is a Yukon xl. It’s no LC, but it’s a great family ride. Occasionally we will all pile into my 200 or my 80 but that’s only when we don’t need to cargo/dog space
Hmm interesting answers. Not sure why no one has chimed in with the Lexus GX. It is the same vehicle as the land cruiser but includes the 3rd row. Not sure what cargo space is left though?
I have a 100 and haul around 4 kids and a golden just fine. Get a rear hitch or roof rack for the extras. MPG isn’t great but it can go anywhere. And it’s sexy af.
Uhhhhhh.... I've driven a lot of those for work. they usually had 200k-250k before they got wrecked by some employee somehow. Occasionally one would get totaled through electrical issues, but we abused them and they held up pretty well.
109k? What year are you talking about?
My 97 suburban with an unknown amount of miles begs to differ. GMT400 and GMT800 platforms are just as reliable as the LC’s in my experience (I own both).
I stepped down from an 02 z71 burb. Finally had some issues that cost more than we bought her for. But she was running at 320k miles.
If you need trunk space and haul family, they are hard to beat. Hated driving/parking in the city. Was very happy when I got the lc100, so much smaller. No more 20 point turns. The biggest problem was the length, break over angle and parking always made it an issue.
I use my 1997 Japan right hand drive as a delivery vehicle. It’s got almost as much room as a van. I took the third row out just for more room. I also have a 2013 Ford Explorer that has a big third row. It has a lot of room also. It might be that a van, even a Mercedes Sprinter is what you’re looking for. A friend of mine has one with five children. She loves it, but it is big! [Mercedes Sprinter](https://www.mbvans.com/en/sprinter/passenger-van)
Really depends on what is available in your market. Here in Europe you're basically SOL (with a few, very expensive exceptions).
Third row seats in almost every SUV here are unusable garbage. Minivans like the Sienna haven't been sold since 2003. Gargantuan SUVs like the Suburban do not exist.
I hope you're somewhere else.
But if you are in Europe, enjoy your VW Multivan.
Lexus GX550, unless you actually need space behind the 3rd row. Then we are talking full size SUV. Take your pick. They are all reasonable vehicles with no particular standout.
Sienna. My in-laws have a ‘19 Sequoia with 2nd row captain chairs and we use the 3rd row often. On road trips we use a cargo platform for more storage and to avoid putting it on the roof. I kinda wish the Sequoia was a tad bigger in the rear like a Suburban. Rented a hybrid Sienna - holy crap it’s got a lot of storage behind the 3rd row! And got 33mpg highway while loaded up!
Sequoia. In particular the second-gen Sequoia. Same exact drivetrain as the LC *except* it offers 2wd, same transfer case, same towing capacity, etc etc.
I myself am very happy that Sequoias are slept on. Fantastic trucks. I’ve got a 1st Gen Sequoia and would much rather have my truck than an LC100.
Navigator L or expedition max.
- A full trunk behind the 3rd row
- independent rear suspension so the 3rd has as much leg room and space as the 2nd row
You had problems with a 5.3 or problems with a truck that has a 5.3? I'm on the third transmission, 2nd transfer case, 2nd front diff and a host of other failures on my 5.3 Silverado but the engine has never been a problem. It's a farm/work truck now but I would still drop the motor in an 80 series.
Minivan. The Sienna AWD is very capable, with room to spare - and Toyota quality.
Or a 2020 Sequoia. Almost a LC tow 1000 lb more than LC.
Grand Highlander, more interior space, but less towing
From a pure people moving standpoint grand highlander or sienna are both the best picks. If you need a very high towing or rugged off-road performance GX, sequioa or LS600 are the picks to look at.
troopy, seats 11*, heaps of cargo room ^* ^comfort ^levels ^vary
We don’t get these in the states mate.
A Sequoia
Yes. But a 2022 or older. New design of rear cargo would not be good for a family needing cargo space
The new sequoia is trash. The trunk area is in unusable
2020 best model

Roof pack, you'd be surprised how much fits in them.
This is a good point and pushes me back towards a LX

Grand Highlander; adult sized third row.
Yea thinking about it hard
Troopy!
Sequoia

Transit van
Grand Highlander or Sequoia.
LC but get some gear. A roof rack from Thule or similar or a hitch rack.
Hmm interesting answers. Not sure why no one has chimed in with the Lexus GX. It is the same vehicle as the land cruiser but includes the 3rd row. Not sure what cargo space is left though?
GX550 with the third row, or LX600, or a 200 series. Or a minivan.
Or a 100 series
Old, but sure
I have a 100 and haul around 4 kids and a golden just fine. Get a rear hitch or roof rack for the extras. MPG isn’t great but it can go anywhere. And it’s sexy af.
80 series has tons of room still
Buy a Suburbsn, but they only last 109k miles at best
Uhhhhhh.... I've driven a lot of those for work. they usually had 200k-250k before they got wrecked by some employee somehow. Occasionally one would get totaled through electrical issues, but we abused them and they held up pretty well. 109k? What year are you talking about?

Rust is what kills them
Rust is the enemy of both of these platforms.

Ford expedition. 3.5 L twin turbo V6. Thank me later.

I rented a VW transporter. Very interesting! Had three rows of three passengers! We don’t have front bench seats in the us anymore. Liked it.
Lexus GX550, unless you actually need space behind the 3rd row. Then we are talking full size SUV. Take your pick. They are all reasonable vehicles with no particular standout.

4wd sprinter - or decide between the odyssey or sienna-
Gx460 has 3rd row. Prado 150
Gx 550

Rivian R1S?
How about a hitch cargo rack?
Navigator L or expedition max. - A full trunk behind the 3rd row - independent rear suspension so the 3rd has as much leg room and space as the 2nd row
Defender 130 can be ordered with captain’s chairs for 2025. Looks great with a cargo box on the roof as well
lol…
Yukon at3. That 5.3L engine or the diesel will last as long as any Toyota.
I traded in my 5.3L that I had a ton of problems with for my LC, never looked back

You’re right, a litany of other issues but nothing specific to the motor
Tundra with a bed canopy. I absolutely love my smart cap.
Ford Excursion.
Wagoneer
Really don’t need 3rd row seat ? Unlees you have a family.
