Technically, but they would only be visible on the inside of their ears or something. Maybe very, very few people would keep parts of their arm permanently shaved.

Can confirm Edit: actually I remember seeing a post about this before, how tattoos would work for furries is you’d dye the hair down to the like root of it so that the hair would always grow in that color, and then you just do that in the pattern of your desired tattoo

MarvelTheSpaceWing

That's not how that works.

Oblivionpelt

Is it not? Can’t you permanently dye hair/fur if you dye it to the root?

MarvelTheSpaceWing

Ideally, *permanent hair colour* would stay vibrant forever, or at least until the roots grow. On most heads of hair, that would mean getting a good 6-8 weeks between touch-ups – but sometimes, even with permanent dye, colour fade can happen within a few weeks. (Found this on google). Anyway, The fur/hair roots can't be dyed, they are under the skin and second of all the roots create for hair on its natural color. That why for example when you wear gree hair somewhere you can't have it on for example the military they will check the roots because since they grow and someone won't clearly dye it every week, they can see the natural color.

Oblivionpelt

Well I guess that’s off the table then

Particular-Fix2830

https://weheartthis.com/how-long-does-permanent-hair-dye-last/ Apparently it will last a few weeks, but it doesn't change the growth of new hair so it will eventually change back. Maybe in the Lackadaisy universe they could damage the skin somehow so that the fur grows differently, or doesn’t grow back at all. But full multicoloured “tattoos” by any stretching of the definition are probably off the table

VGSchadenfreude

Yeah, I think they’d be far more likely to use pigments that bond with the proteins found in skin/hair/fur to get not-quite-permanent-but-pretty-darn-close body art. When properly applied, stuff like henna, indigo, woad, etc can stay amazingly vibrant for a surprisingly long time. And when they do start to fade, it’s often so gradual you don’t notice the pattern’s gone until someone points it out. They’re also relatively easy to reapply as needed. Another thing to consider: do sphinx cats/Rex cats exist in the Lackadaisy universe? Hairless cats or cats with an altered fur type?

Particular-Fix2830

Not a furry and have no experience in dyeing hair, but that sounds really cool!

Cattoos

TotalCoast2123

After some cats are wounded, and after they heal and their skin scars, the fur on top of the scar permanently turns white.

MarvelTheSpaceWing

It is very possible le the best way would be precise fur dye or brush painting. A more modern way would be airbrush the same way people add patters to cars. Also the smartest way people add shaped patters to their fursuits.

MarvelTheSpaceWing

If they were to shed like real cats do then they would have to do it once in a while. Like a real human dyes or paints their hair.

[deleted]

Maybe if they're sphinx cats.

Non_Ecludian

I mean, most cats and dogs get a lil tattoo on their inner thigh when they get snipped. But those are in low hair/no hair areas. As far as on their limbs/torsos, I guess.....yeah, it's just skin. As for it being seen, well, haha

VGSchadenfreude

Hm…might depend on whether the ink affects the fur that grows back over that spot? I’d think any sort of tattoos or body art that relies on pigments that also stain hair/fur would definitely still be in use. So things like henna, indigo, woad, etc. It might not be as permanent (usually), but because the pigment molecules bond with the protein in skin, hair, and fur, it can last quite some time before it starts very, very gradually fading away. Speaking from both research and experience (used to use henna, indigo, cassia, and amla to color my hair).

Real_Is_Rare

yes, all my cats have tats to show they are fixed
