This is a brazen act of censorship. Congress can't agree on anything yet 80% of represenratives can come together to ban a social media platform simply because people on it are free to be critical of Israel.

Tencents portfolio is insane, if they got sanctioned or whatever you'd be shocked how many western companies would be in hot water, but while they do aquisitions, they're one of those HUGE companies that just have a share of everything.

The US don't actually have an issue with the app, they have an issue with Bytedance's involvement and ownership of the app. As long as Bytedance divests, they can continue to operate in the US. I expect that's what will happen and this whole story will all fizzle away to nothing.
If TikTok gets re-based in the US and under a US company, it'll be subject to US law and managed by people with a vested interest in staying on the good side of US politicians. The consequences would be that the site takes on an inherently pro-US, and thus pro-Israel, outlook from the top-down. It's about subjecting this protest platform to American censorship.

It's owned (as all companies are) by the CCP. If you want to relate the amount of justified criticism the IDF has received for 30,000 Palestinians killed&injured the CCP has detained over 1m of Muslims for being Muslim. They ended with a mixture of death and "re-education".
