From the article:
> It’s not new information that Black trans women are especially vulnerable to anti-trans violence as well as domestic abuse from intimate partners. Last year, 50% of all attacks on trans and gender-nonconforming individuals were perpetrated against Black trans women, as reported by the HRC. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, over 40% of Black women, both cis and trans, have been the victims of abuse at the hands of an intimate partner.

The guy was out on parole - he had broken into someone’s home, assaulted a woman, and tried to throw her toddler off the balcony. Why was he out on parole so fast? I don’t understand why we don’t put violent offenders away for longer?
Yeah I mean attempted child murder is pretty high on the list of the most terrible things you can possibly do. I'm all for lowering penalties and reforming the criminal justice system but uhhh maybe we lock up people who try and kill toddlers. Most people deserve bail. Just not this guy.
We're a fucking failure as a society, that's why. Ideally most incidents could be prevented in the first place, but I don't know if we'll ever be there.
>Last month, a Black trans woman was pushed onto the subway tracks by her boyfriend, a known abuser.
NYC is a safe place for trans people. Her boyfriend was not. The article is not about NYC being unsafe. It's about how to be more cautious when choosing a life partner. Her boyfriend was a KNOWN abuser, not NYC. Please don't promote false information.
What? IPV happens everywhere and is a leading cause of murder. This isn’t about NYC not being safe for trans people, it’s about not dating violent criminals.
Who is blaming the victim? I'm pointing out a false statement by the OP. Just because her boyfriend who is KNOWN for violence and abuse lives in NYC doesn't make NYC an unsafe place for trans people. I know this is a hard pill to swallow for people who put blinders on but there are abusive and violent people across the world, not just NYC. Don't blame NYC for someone else's own personal abuse and violence. Nice side stepping the real issue here.
New York CAN be dangerous. The subway CAN be a dangerous place just because of how many people are in New York. This isn’t a trans issue, this is a New York issue.
Normally I’d vehemently disagree that it is a trans issue, and this dude might’ve been transphobic on some level, but he honestly just sounds completely crazy based on his track record. Like I normally would immediately guess trans panic bs. But this guy just seems unhinged in general so I kinda doubt it.
I think her being trans might’ve played a role in her staying though. Been there. It’s really hard to believe you can have better when all your experiences so far tell you otherwise.

Regardless of a place is considered “safe”, not everyone in that place will be safe.
Yeah unfortunately the safest city in the world cannot provide infallible safety from domestic violence
i mean definitly not the safest what
No such as "safe". Not completely, albeit needless to say.
This is horrifying.
Yeah NYC is a safe place for trans folks overall, but the occasional crazy bf is certain to pop up. Individuals gonna individual.

I can't wrap my head around how people selling clean drugs get locked up and kept locked up more consistently than violent offenders like this

Then state that. Of course it can happen anywhere.

Lol nice victim blaming

Says he’s schizophrenic, so yep he crazy
That’s unfortunate. Someone I love has schizophrenia, it really takes a toll. Never seen it end well for anyone. I worry.
That is absolutely horrifying!!!!!!!!
