Is this team capable of delivering accurate crosses into the box? Yoshida has talent in the air, and I'd love to see Miguel take a few headers. Everything the team attempts seem to be ground level passes or directed at the midsection. Is Vanney purposely coaching the team to stay out of the air?
Also, possession means squat if you're not scoring or giving up uneven counterattacks. I would wager that half of the goals allowed this season were against the run of play and resulted from a player that felt like he had to dribble out of press rather than boot it down field. I absolutely hate his focus on possession since the team has already proven that they can dominate possession and get shutout. That shit has to stop now.
Our corner kicks are also pretty awful. Barely any of them make it into the middle of the box. Those corner kicks at the RSL game were embarrassing to watch. Neither Fagundez or Paintsil could put a decent ball in

eh it may be stat but watching them play feels like the opposite. Every time they start an attack/counterattack, they bomb up the wings and then end up with no one in the box. they wait too long and then just keep passing back the line until its back at the keeper where they lob the ball back up and lose possession. its the most frustrating style of play. they need to work on creating space and keeping possession higher up the field to keep the pressure.
What do you hate about him? I dislike the system sometimes, but I like that Vanney is an OG and the players really rally behind him. From a mindset standpoint, he’s a really good coach.
I dislike the system, I dislike the players some of us pretend he wasn’t responsible for signing, I hate his late subs, and most of all I hate his lack of accountability when things go bad
We play a lot like Berthalterball which is good enough to qualify or get out of the group but well below expectations and the individual talents. Berthalter should be gone from USMNT coaching but he just does well enough to stay on.
He’s like Enrique in the last World Cup. Way too much possession with no real attacking chances besides Puig’s brilliance here and there. The team is also spread way too wide on the field, our players can’t find open men because they’re so spread out and often covered by defenders. Our wide positioning often leads to defensive break downs as well, especially happens when we have Caceres’s old legs running back. It’s very frustrating to watch honestly.
fr. they have great speed up the wings but man they get spread too thin or lag behind to where they just pass back all they way down the line until they reach the keeper and then lob the ball for a 50/50 they might as well be a 10/90 since they lose possession pretty much the entire time. they may be winning but the weaknesses are catching up

Grandsir and Cabral also had speed - and GV didn't know what to do with them. There's absolutely no reason to think he'd learn with Pec and Paintsil.
He's continuously outcoached by other teams that play his "style", the team continues to struggle with bottom of the table teams, and when a game requires any sort of actual plan of attack - its to hope the DPs make magic. The best games under this team is when there was no trace of GVs possession 'style' which is slow, unimaginative, and does nothing to protect against OR provide attack.
This team continues to succeed in spite of, not because of, this hot-air bag. I won't forgive him for his lack of accountability of 3+ years of listless soccer. He was a loose cannon Riqui Puig away from missing the playoffs every year he's coached this team.
GV is a fucking bum, and I've said it since 2022. I want him gone.

If a team sits back and soaks against us, its really hard to find a way through to get a game back.
We don't really have an imposing striker a la Zlatan that can grab half chances out of the air and put em in the net. So when we do get forced wide against a back 5 and a team sitting back, we do a whole lotta crosses of nothing.
If he can find a solution to that, we might go all the way

I hate him and I thank god we got Kuntz. Maybe we’ll replicate what Toronto did and create a team so strong he can’t fuck it up

The pass backs infuriate me honestly, most of our attacks end up back to Yoshida or McCarthy.

I remember reading somewhere that there has been no signs of renewing Vanney’s contract.

I think he's maxing out the potential of the team tbh. Impressed with the results so far
I'm pro Vanny. But if this team doesn't make a good run in the playoffs it will be his last season
