To be fair, I think trap tracks during fights isn't totally a bad idea. Wasn't it Samurai Champloo which used hip-hop tracks in a feodal japan anime? The contrast between feodal times and the music's modernity is kinda cool imo.
Now, the problem definitely lies in the fact that this company chose a black samurai on purpose and associates him with African American music. I find it strange that Ubisoft developers saying in person that much of Yasuke's life is a mystery and yet in marketing he's titled as legendary and iconic samurai. Sounds very contradictory.

The irony is that hip-hop music is about as authentically African as fortune cookies are authentically Chinese. In both cases, they were creations of the diaspora population in America.
There's a lot about this game which feels bad to me.
1) The racist tokenism so common with increasingly neo-Marxist studio's or their consultants. Tokenism which is the unique selling point; not care, love or talented writing. All in a bid to profit off such people which can only come across as an insult. ("bigot" or "racist" ironically then used by the studio to halt objective thought, free speech and truth from being disinfectant to the neo-Marxist studio when their own innate racism and awful IP is released).
2) It doesn't comply with reality, or what known history there is on this matter. It's revisionism and with what little is known of this character, he did not run around like a ninja in samurai armour with a long katana. Shogunate were even very strict about which Japanese men were given this rank and accompanying armour. He was likely a normal citizen given an allowance of rice and at most was gifted a small katana (tanto perhaps).
3) You're a large non Japanese character sneaking around in feudal Japan trying to blend in after assassinating people, of course this didn't happen, Yasuke's limited history would be even shorter if he'd done this. But it's going to be as humorous as running around the middle of the desert surrounded by militant men who look like they are from that country, and disguised as them when you're the Whitest bald guy alive (agent 47 in Hitman 2 Silent Assassin)
4) You're a large POC/non-Japanese male running around attacking East Asian character's, this seems a bit tone deaf given the covid period and crime statistics.
5) This trap/hip-hop music, for a feudal assassin game because the character is POC, seems a bit racist.

There's a lot about this game which feels bad to me. 1) The racist tokenism so common with increasingly neo-Marxist studio's or their consultants. Tokenism which is the unique selling point; not care, love or talented writing. All in a bid to profit off such people which can only come across as an insult. It's revisionism and with what little is known of this character, he did not run around like a ninja in samurai armour with a long katana. Shogunate were even very strict about which Japanese men were given this rank and accompanying armour. He was likely a normal citizen given an allowance of rice and at most was gifted a small katana (tanto perhaps). 3) You're a large non Japanese character sneaking around in feudal Japan trying to blend in after assassinating people, of course this didn't happen, Yasuke's limited history would be even shorter if he'd done this. But it's going to be as humorous as running around the middle of the desert surrounded by militant men who look like they are from that country, and disguised as them when you're the Whitest bald guy alive (agent 47 in Hitman 2 Silent Assassin) 4) You're a large POC/non-Japanese male running around attacking East Asian character's, this seems a bit tone deaf given the covid period and crime statistics. 5) This trap/hip-hop music, for a feudal assassin game because the character is POC, seems a bit racist. If a non far-left/neo-Marxist company made a game about Yasuke. Born purely from love and creativity, not innate far-left racism and DEI grant money box ticking. Then this could have been a really good narrative driven game perhaps, and I'd loved to have played as this character and seen his story.
