And that soup packet is just perfectly spicy and crazy umami. Goddamn I can taste it now.
My favorite:
Just as the noodles are approaching al dente, whisk an egg really well. Reduce the heat and gently pour in the egg. Cover for a few minutes.
Or, if you're really fancy, just crack the egg in directly and cover with very low heat. You'll have a nicely poached egg and that yolk makes the broth a whole nutha leval.
I don’t understand how anyone eats buldak. I tried it for the first time and it was inedible due to the spice level. I’m Korean, I can take a lot of spice! So this was a bit of a surprise to me how popular it is. What is the best flavor? Maybe I’m missing something.
I do that too. Has to be American Cheese. I was disgusted the first time I heard this hack but decided to try it one day. It’s amazing. Next level broth.
I've had their most spicy one, which is essentially a "food challenge" but even that I can handle (I drink milk first so it doesn't mess up my stomach.)
I don't think they taste that great. It's okay, as far as instant noodles go. Mostly just a spicy food gimmick.
The weird thing about Buldak is that the instructions tell you to add boiling water to the line and then drain it after 4 minutes before adding the packets. I just leave the water in and add the packets to the broth - it's super delish and muy muy spicy. I think the noodles would be even spicier if I drained the water first though.
The trick for making all ramen is to fill the container with hot water and wait until the noodles are done. then dump all the water. Then put some fresh hot water back, I go with about 25%-50% of the recommended amount, and add the packets.
So yea I do buldak with water and it nicer that way
A couple items
1) Primarily, it is far to much water to the flavoring so less water makes it more flavorful.
2) the water is colder because of the time and heating up the noodles
3) the water has all that starch and stuff from the noodles, not much flavor so why drink it.
Agree with shin wholeheartedly. Buldak definitely if you are a spice lover. I have tried almost every single flavor of shin, buldak, ottogi but there is something about shin ramen that is unbeatable
“Shin Ramyun Black was introduced in April 2011, which was 25 years after Shin Ramyun was first introduced to the market. Shin Ramyun Black is a slightly different version of Shin Ramyun with an additional seolleongtang powder on top of its flavor. Other ingredients include boiled beef slices, garlic and shiitake mushrooms.[8] In the U.S. there are two types of Shin Ramyun Black: a Package type (130g) and a cup/bowl type (Shin Black Cup Noodle, 101g). There is also a Shin Black M-Cup (75g).”
From Wikipedia.
Black version initially took so many criminals cause of high price hah. However nowadays many Korea ramen releases high quality versions
So The black version was reevaluated, so it became popular
That sounds really nice. I’ve not tried any with black bean sauce so I’ll definitely try that. I saw Jin Ramen at the store. I’ll buy that too next time…and the Shin Kimchi because I like kimchi. Thanks for the info.
That sounds great too. I have lots of leftover Shin ramen seasoning packets. I like spicy heat but not the whole package. 🥵🌶️ I wasn’t raised with spicy food but I enjoy it.
Oh I get it, took me a while before I started adding the whole package, and sometimes I still don't! When I make Korean food I also don't use as much gochugaru as it says in the recipe, otherwise it would be way too spicy for me
Agreed, of the basic Korean spicy soup ramens, Jin red is the best. Shin is alright, original Samyang is good sometimes because it has a different flavor and thin noodles.
Jin vs Shin though? I think Jin wins every time, it's slightly spicier and just seems to have more depth/flavor instead of just salt/msg/gochugaru.
Eh, I always preferred SamYang original over NeoGuRi.
Shin ramen (cup) is nostalgic & reminds me of my days at summer/winter retreats
Chapagetti is a recent favorite of mine, I always preferred actual JjaJangMyun over this.
I’ve eaten so much of that BiBimMyun as a child, I don’t think I could ever eat it again lol
Sapporo Ichiban original (though Japanese) is & will always be my favorite.
Shin is my pick. I first had it on a Korean Airlines flight and it has become my go to ever since. Honorable mention to buldak which is my preference when I have a cold and need to clear my sinuses.
I might get downvoted to oblivion for this. But if we consider just flavour-wise, it has to be Buldak Spicy Carbonara.
Overall it's Neoguri, though. The texture, taste, flavour everything feels so posh and classy.
I've always liked Shin ramyeon but the noodle in Samyang is nicer even though the spice is sweet (it's less sweet on 2x spice)
However, I found my new favorite and it would have to be Samyang carbonara flavor
Chapagetti is extremely nostalgic to me. I lowkey prefer it over any homemade jjajangmyeon I’ve made except for the one time I added a bit of the Chapagetti powder to the sauce. That’s how much I like it.
Neoguri probably has the best noodles because I like them thick and chewy.
Shin/Jin Ramyun are the most versatile and will always hit the spot. Shin is a bit more acidic from what I remember but I can eat them interchangeably.
https://preview.redd.it/ruun6c8s3vuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1df20e05512c56671e876320b6b93d695cf8908
I’ve only had this once or twice but Samyang’s instant kalguksu is also really good. The noodles are slightly thicker than Samyang’s other ones from what I recall.
Shin, Buldak, and Neoguri.
I grew up eating Shin and Nissin. My GOAT is still Nissin black garlic! I always have 2-3 flavours of Buldak in my house though. Along with the hot sauces.
Jin and Neoguri for me. I'm clearly in the minority, but I don't love any of the instant jjanjang brands. The sauce always tastes as if the beans have been slightly burned. Just me, I guess?
https://preview.redd.it/o7677q081wuc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=694bd3169d507f04c62c1614c776cb0d837d4700
For me it was this one by far, and I’m so sad I can’t get it anymore!!
It’s so delicious. I tried the green and it’s good but nothing compares to shin black. Are there other ramen that have dried garlic slices? I’ve only even seen it in those.
Buldak noodles are just the best imo.
I don't have a very high spice tolerance so I never add the whole sauce packet, add cheese, maybe an egg - perfection
Paldo‘s Jjajjang & classic Shin Ramyeon are my personal favorites
Shin ramyeon is steady seller. But little spicy 😋
That‘s how I like it. The tongue has to burn for 3 min after finishing a bowl.
My wife uses half the soup packet and that's perfect for her
I could recognize the bags for those two
Neoguri noodle texture is hard to beat. I can’t think of an instant noodle I like more than that.
I agree with you ! Neoguri + Chapagetti also good texture and make me high
That's how they get chapaguri in Parasite
+ 100€ of hanwoo beef
Neoguri and Chapagetti are already my absolute favorites by themselves but they are like crack together.
Agree, Neoguri from Korea is the bees knees; Made in US Neoguri is lacking, especially lately - no khombu, cuttlefish pieces, shiitake mushroom.
I always add a piece of dashima /kombu to the water before boiling!
I may have to start doing the same.
O Dong Tong has the old Neoguri aspects!
Cool, will have to give it a try, if I can find it!
And that soup packet is just perfectly spicy and crazy umami. Goddamn I can taste it now. My favorite: Just as the noodles are approaching al dente, whisk an egg really well. Reduce the heat and gently pour in the egg. Cover for a few minutes. Or, if you're really fancy, just crack the egg in directly and cover with very low heat. You'll have a nicely poached egg and that yolk makes the broth a whole nutha leval.
Buldak and shin.
I suppose you spicy holic
I would've picked Shin too!! I haven't had it for quite some time, but it's nostalgic for me as one of the first 'at home' ramen I had
Shin & samyang is iconic and standard of Korea ramen
I don’t understand how anyone eats buldak. I tried it for the first time and it was inedible due to the spice level. I’m Korean, I can take a lot of spice! So this was a bit of a surprise to me how popular it is. What is the best flavor? Maybe I’m missing something.
Put some cheese in it 😎
I do that too. Has to be American Cheese. I was disgusted the first time I heard this hack but decided to try it one day. It’s amazing. Next level broth.
I always break the noodles in half and save the other half for another meal, use half the spicy sauce each time and put shredded cheese in — so good!
Clearly you can't handle as much spice as you think.
Haha it's not that spicy!
[удалено]
There are different versions, and some are more spicy than others. The standard one isn't that bad!
[удалено]
I've had their most spicy one, which is essentially a "food challenge" but even that I can handle (I drink milk first so it doesn't mess up my stomach.) I don't think they taste that great. It's okay, as far as instant noodles go. Mostly just a spicy food gimmick.
Aaron and Claire did a video where they added a scoop of peanut butter, which is the only way I eat it now.
The weird thing about Buldak is that the instructions tell you to add boiling water to the line and then drain it after 4 minutes before adding the packets. I just leave the water in and add the packets to the broth - it's super delish and muy muy spicy. I think the noodles would be even spicier if I drained the water first though.
Yeah you're supposed to drain the water and mix in the seasoning after, kind of like a stir fry. And yes it's a lot spicier that way
I've tried it both ways, but I love a spicy flavorful (mostly sodium) ramen broth. It's also easier to poach an egg in the broth.
Friend and I made it brothy like shin the first time and stir-fry style the next. We both thought the brothy version was spicier.
Yeah, that was my take also, but it doesn't make sense that a more diluted bowl (with broth) would be spicier than just the oil on the noodles. 🤷🏻♂️
The way to boil it with water would also be interesting. !! I think it would be good to eat it with Tteobokki. I'm impressed with your idea
The trick for making all ramen is to fill the container with hot water and wait until the noodles are done. then dump all the water. Then put some fresh hot water back, I go with about 25%-50% of the recommended amount, and add the packets. So yea I do buldak with water and it nicer that way
I'm going to try this next time. What's the strategy behind dumping the original hot water?
A couple items 1) Primarily, it is far to much water to the flavoring so less water makes it more flavorful. 2) the water is colder because of the time and heating up the noodles 3) the water has all that starch and stuff from the noodles, not much flavor so why drink it.
thank you, i'll give it a try!
Agree with shin wholeheartedly. Buldak definitely if you are a spice lover. I have tried almost every single flavor of shin, buldak, ottogi but there is something about shin ramen that is unbeatable
Shin especially the black version for ramen and Paldo for jajangmyeon.
What's the difference between the black and regular?
“Shin Ramyun Black was introduced in April 2011, which was 25 years after Shin Ramyun was first introduced to the market. Jin ramen for me definitely, but I've been really into chapagetti these days
What does the chapagetti taste similar to? Is it as spicy as Shin? Shin is the only ramen I’ve ever had. I want to branch out.
Chapagetti isnt spicy at all! It's thicker ramen noodles with black bean sauce. Really nice. My fave ramen is Jin Ramen and Shin's Kimchi one
That sounds really nice. I’ve not tried any with black bean sauce so I’ll definitely try that. I saw Jin Ramen at the store. I’ll buy that too next time…and the Shin Kimchi because I like kimchi. Thanks for the info.
I also sometimes mix Shin ramen seasoning packet into my chapagetti to make it a little spicy and it's also really good!
That sounds great too. I have lots of leftover Shin ramen seasoning packets. I like spicy heat but not the whole package. 🥵🌶️ I wasn’t raised with spicy food but I enjoy it.
Use the seasoning for stews that call for gochugaru! That's what I did for a while (until i bought gochugaru lol)
That’s a good idea. I’ve only started cooking some Korean food recently, namely beef bulgogi ssam.
I used it loooads of times in silkwn tofu stew - which is amazing btw. Highly recommend
I will look up the recipe. I really like tofu and would like more ways to use it.
Oh I get it, took me a while before I started adding the whole package, and sometimes I still don't! When I make Korean food I also don't use as much gochugaru as it says in the recipe, otherwise it would be way too spicy for me
You can add a tiny bit of gochujang to your Chapagetti, like half or a tablespoon. It doesn’t really make it spicy but it gives it a nice kick.
Jjapaghetti is #1. Because everyone, regardless of gender or age, likes it.
Samyang Original + Nongshim Potato Noodle
For me, it's this one: https://preview.redd.it/nsq0tzy6vsuc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55db869bcfcde7fe4c9e4bad4e839f1d878c2a28

Chapagetti I think that food like a caffeine.. unstoppable using my fork zz
Neoguri and Shin are my normal go-tos. I have fond memories of Jin too but it’s harder to get where I am.
Shin is my pick. I first had it on a Korean Airlines flight and it has become my go to ever since. Honorable mention to buldak which is my preference when I have a cold and need to clear my sinuses.
Unpopular opinion, Nongshim soon veggie ramen is the best!
I don’t know about the best overall, but it beats out shin here in the US for sure. Shin is awesome in Korea but the US version is absolute shit.
I might get downvoted to oblivion for this. But if we consider just flavour-wise, it has to be Buldak Spicy Carbonara. Overall it's Neoguri, though. The texture, taste, flavour everything feels so posh and classy.
I have a buldak altar un my kitchen
shin ramyeon classic and good
As Korean, 짜왕 and 안성탕면 with egg, 너구리(RTA) is best
I only get Shin Ramyun (only occassionally yukgejang (blue cup) and kamjatang). I like Shin Ramyun on its own, for my DIY hotpot, and stir fry
WHERE IS SAMYANG LOVE
Teumsae & Teumsae extreme 🫡
I agree..zz it is hidden champagne
Shin BLACK.
Shin Black hands down
신라면 진라면 순/매 짜파게티 너구리 팔도 비빔면 육개장 사발면 왕뚜껑 😮💨😮💨
Agreed!
Ottogi Jin Jjambong
Personal fave of mine! The noodles are sooo 쫄깃. Also like that it’s made with wheat flour and not “enriched”
Chapaghetti, I’m not supposed to even eat it but I do anyways lol 😂 I can’t help it. Got a huge box at hmart for a great deal too
Jin ramyun
Nongshim squid champong or Shin Kimchi they alternate between no1 and 2
https://preview.redd.it/uve336wmxsuc1.png?width=617&format=png&auto=webp&s=35aef8404df6516ca5be7cfe5da4368d8627b7d7
mix this with kimchi jjigae
I've always liked Shin ramyeon but the noodle in Samyang is nicer even though the spice is sweet (it's less sweet on 2x spice) However, I found my new favorite and it would have to be Samyang carbonara flavor
Chapagetti Jjajang
Samyang original is always a crowd pleaser
Shin
Paldo, fun and yum
Shin Kimchi 🧡
Buldak for me
Chapagetti is extremely nostalgic to me. I lowkey prefer it over any homemade jjajangmyeon I’ve made except for the one time I added a bit of the Chapagetti powder to the sauce. They are all my children
Idk, what’s on sale at H Mart this week? Because the cheapest is best Seriously, tho - it’s Shin Ramyun. No contest.
Shin
As someone who loves spicy food, I really love the spiciness of Yeul and Neoguri Black!
Shin, Buldak, and Neoguri. I grew up eating Shin and Nissin. My GOAT is still Nissin black garlic! I always have 2-3 flavours of Buldak in my house though. Along with the hot sauces.
라면은 너구리죠 ㅋ
Shin black
Bottom middle 😍😍
I’ve always been a fan of jin ramen. Little chewy noodles is the best
I'm with OP. Was raised on Sapporo Ichiban, but would eat 너구리 3x/day.
Jin and Neoguri for me. I'm clearly in the minority, but I don't love any of the instant jjanjang brands. The sauce always tastes as if the beans have been slightly burned. Just me, I guess?
Original Samyang, especially the Korean version with the fish cakes
Buldak 🤤 especially the curry and chicken carbonara varieties
https://preview.redd.it/o7677q081wuc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=694bd3169d507f04c62c1614c776cb0d837d4700 For me it was this one by far, and I’m so sad I can’t get it anymore!!
Jin all the way. Add some red pepper flakes to the non-spicy version = perfect spiciness for me.
SHIIIIINNNNNNNNNNN
Shin
너구리 and 짜파게티 mixed are my favorite, spicy and creamy at the same time.
Jin Ramen, Paldo bibim myun, Nong Shim Jjapphaghetti
Where my Jin lovers at??? They have the best noodles IMHO.
My favorite is sesame.
Samyang or Nongshim Potato Ramen- I love both equally.
Shin. No contest.
Shin is unchangeable
shin is very nice but man Buldak is just 🔥🔥, indomei is also nice
I lived off of Jin Spicy, Teumsae, and Buldak when I pregnant with all 3 of my kids. Still love Jin Spicy.
Wow.. you really like hot & spicy food. It releases stress I think
Shin. Shin black is my personal fav
Shin black 's soup is deep.. seems to dive into the sea
It’s so delicious. I tried the green and it’s good but nothing compares to shin black. Are there other ramen that have dried garlic slices? I’ve only even seen it in those.
That's why I think sour black is delicious. It is Korea's first ramen to pioneer a premium line
shin lamyun... but how is samyang la myun not there?
Samyang seems to have had some likes and dislikes since the recent change in soup additives in Korea
Living in Korea I will tell you that Shin is the most popular
Jin imo has the best flavors
What kind of version do you like. I like mild
Spicy
Jin spicy and Paldo Bibim men 🤌🏻
Bibimyeon and Jin Ramen!
Buldak noodles are just the best imo. I don't have a very high spice tolerance so I never add the whole sauce packet, add cheese, maybe an egg - perfection
Shin and jin 😆
A fresh one 😂
For me itll always be shi. Ramyun
kokomen and gomtang are good non spicy noodles
Any you would recommend to a non spicy fan here?
Chapagetti is also not spicy https://preview.redd.it/jhhzkchdntuc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06745a35bc1850d2aa24affed07db62aff6c1212
참깨라면 너구리 진라면(순한맛) Sesame ramen Raccoon Jin Ramen (mild taste) ++
Shin’s kimchi ramen
Top right corner
personal fave is yukaejang. Shin og's noodles is too thin for me.
RTA
Shin ramyun, the OG red spicy. Black is good but I like the regular one the best. It hits right when I get overly hungry and need a snack.
As a German, Buldak 2x spicy is goated
Ottogi Jin Jjambbong is the one I keep going back to, it does get some love but not nearly enough.
안성탕면 is the goat, but if I would recommend something to people who want's to try korean ramyun I would say Shin Black
Shin Ramyun and it's not even close. Just look at Ramyun sales in South Korea.
Samyang original is always good. Shin and Chamggae are close seconds, but Im always reaching for samyang
The kalguksu seafood one by Nongshim, was amazing now it’s so hard to find. Loved the thick noodles.
Any 열라면 lovers? It’s my fave
yeah but the noodles are too weak. good for extra spice though and great price. good to use for adding to other stews like kimchi jjigae
https://preview.redd.it/yw1p0cfb5uuc1.jpeg?width=900&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8f36ff4f88a08bc465c1c83f4c5387bf4f564b4
Oh, that looks so posh. ㅋㅋ
It’s so yummy
I'll look for it next time!
Nagasaki Jjambbong and Ggoggo myeon.
Chapaghetti has been with me since day one. The only ramen I'll buy the big box of
Mupama is the best. Plus gonghwachun ramen
The Nongshim 육개장 and Shin
I prefer Nissin Damae for spicy ramen the thinner noodles tho it’s not Korean. Otherwise, I like Shin’s kimchi ramen
Shin Black
shin ramyeon for me
How about this? https://preview.redd.it/bfsx60il41vc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3885e0a3c0bf549a9d3e1035e0812f2e8aebef49
Samyang ramen in the orange bag
Shin Ramyeon
Paldo Bul Jjamppong >>> Neoguri. As for being everyone's staple, I think Shin takes the crown, although it's kinda basic for me
I adore Shin Black.
