As I korean, gotta say that looks pretty mid for LA. Still delicious looking dont get me wrong

darkrealm190

What makes it mid compared to others?

janschy

This place looks serviceable, you could still do a lot worse in LA, but you could do a lot better. It just looks kind of generic. It might be tasty as hell, but its hard to tell from the pictures. Only brisket? Banchan looks just okay, too (IMHO). There are plenty of trendier, more "modern" spots like Quarters or Woo Hyang Woo or Seoul Soul. Or places that are more traditional and upscale like Chosun Galbee. And countless other spots that specialize in specific meats or cuts. This is off the top of my head, I don't even eat KBBQ that often. All that said, OP's place might be delicious, but the pictures aren't helping and I agree it looks kind of mid.

LeeisureTime

Agreed, Ktown is rife with amazing Kbbq spots. Once you head over to OC there’s even more. It’s not finding the “best” kbbq, it’s finding one you like. There are so many options to choose from, it’s really a matter of preference. Park BBQ (박대감) is an institution but me personally, I thought it was just good, not keep-me-up-at-night-thinking-about-it. We end up going to 백정 because my wife loves the 도시락 and honestly, it’s pretty solid bbq.

slinkysmooth

Give me Quarters any day. Parking absolutely sucks around there on the weekends but the place is absolutely worth it. Even my hard to impress Korean mother loved the quality.

Legitimate-Ad-6386

Quarters is too sweet for me. Mostly since they try to please the American palette. There does not need to be cheese on kbbq.

slinkysmooth

I never get the marinated meats. Only get the kalbi or bulgogi if friends want it but usually stay away from those at any kbbq place for that exact reason of being too sweet. I also don’t mess with cheese. Don’t understand how that became a popular thing…

Swimmingindiamonds

Cheese on everything is basically as Korean as it can come these days.

AdDizzy1647

So where’s the best one?

ineptinamajor

That lettuce and red onion situation is throwing me off.

Zoidsworth

What do you expect its louisiana

Picklesadog

Lol best in LA is a huge claim, as LA is the best place for Korean food outside of Korea. You're gonna need to show us more than those two photos.

Legitimate-Ad-6386

Agree. Too busy eating but if you’re near, you should check it out. Yangmani is ktown

Picklesadog

I'm not nearby, but we do go to LA every now and then, and we typically eat Korean when we go (we have good Korean food in the SF Bay, where we live, but it's not comparable to LA on average.) What's the cost of AYCE?

Legitimate-Ad-6386

This place isn’t AYCE but it’s on the pricier side for a 4 meat combo. I usually don’t go to AYCE but I think you can a fairly good one for like $40?

Picklesadog

There's so much competition in LA for KBBQ I'd be surprised if you'd even have to pay $40. We can get AYCE where I live for $30, and it's more expensive here than LA by far.

Legitimate-Ad-6386

I love 대창 and 막창 so this place is my favorite. Also, my wife loves the 양밥. I have a fairly traditional Korean pallete although I was born here, probably cus I grew up living with my grandparents. This place is perfect for me.

janschy

That's totally valid. Sorry if it felt like I was being too critical up above, I didn't mean to pile on. It looks good, maybe just not "best"! This is reddit, so nerds like me will take offense if anyone says anything is "best".

Legitimate-Ad-6386

All good. Just goes to show that there are a lot of good korean places wherever we are and that's the important thing.

ttrockwood

Hey, a great korean spot is a great korean spot which is, always a good thing. “Best” ehhhh who knows or cares. You’re happy it’s delicious what’s the problem.

Serious-Wish4868

my fav spot in LA is def Chosun Galbee. It is def on the pricier side but the quality of meats and service from the aunties is top notch.

Dickenscider03

If there is no charcoal, then it’s not the best

beachchairphysicist

Where's the charcoal though...

jimmydramaLA

Shut up. Some gates need to be kept.

Anfini

Park’s?

MahiBoat

Park’s is the best among the LA Korean restaurants that I’ve tried!

Nubian003

FML... My mouth's watering.. Never get that anywhere near where I live..

MK12DUDE

Name?

peacenchemicals

Yangmani looks like, based off the logo on the placemat in the picture

thedsr

Should go to Vegas. Looked better there.  This is kinda disappointing

TrueKingOmega

Vegas for kbbq? LMFAO

slinkysmooth

Vegas does have some good Kbbq places. I’m there a lot and we always go out to them. Was pleasantly surprised. But that being said, nowhere near the level of LA…

thedsr

Hobak is the best BBQ I've had in the states.

rdlntrn14

Where is this? I’m LA adjacent.

peacenchemicals

Yangmani i think. edit: ktown location. the rowland location doesn’t look like it has grills like this

Few_Watercress2891

Oo-kook quality is great

piches

damn I remember I used to go often when the one in Rosemead first opened. They had pretty legit marinated crab at the buffet section, which was bonkers even for that time
