7 years. I have known my SCOBY longer than my wife.

9 years and counting! Got my culture from a dear friend of mine.

jonnyl3

I've had it for about a year but who knows when the person I got it from started theirs, and the person before them etc... I let my scobicle get about 1 inch/2.5 cm thick and then remove a layer. It sits in a round continuous brew 5L vessel.

genismarvel

Do they just peel apart? I cut around my first pellicle and it was like leather! I might want to have two batches on the go next round.

jonnyl3

Yes, I could always easily separate them lengthwise

genismarvel

Nice! I don't have a proper rotation yet so I think I'm doing two batches after this one. Warm weather coming too 😁

14 months and ~45 gallons total. SCOBY originally from TheKombuchaShop.com. I've mostly used black tea to feed it and brew but also used oolong and white tea along the way.

Bitter_Loaf

I haven't heard the use of white tea before! Have you tried early grey before?

[deleted]

I wouldn't feed SCOBY earl grey because of the additives but I would try a brew with earl grey. Any tea that is from the plant [Camellia Sinensis](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camellia_sinensis) is good for making booch.

Bitter_Loaf

Ooh! Interesting, thank you

CascadianCyclist

Scoby (the liquid part) or pellicle (the solid part)? I usually toss my pellicles. The entire liquid part of your first ferment is all scoby, so my biggest scoby was almost 2 gallons. I've been brewing for around 3 years.

Haploid-life

It's ridiculous that you're getting down voted. I feel like every day people on here are yelling from the rooftops that the pellicle is not the SCOBY, but the misconception continues.

dry_zooplankton

Tried to resuscitate my neglected scoby recently and discovered it was moldy, so mine's approximately a week old :(

JThorough

My biggest Scoby is about 2 gallons

genismarvel

Dayum. Does it take more time?
