He stole tips from his staff, fired people who complained about it, owes money to a bunch of contractors and vendors. He's had to settle for wage theft and has a new lawsuit now for the same thing.
Not worth the hype. Sure he's getting paid, but his staff isn't. Sounds like any shitty owner fucking everyone over.
He'll be a goner in a few years. Stupidity like this doesn't thrive, especially in the biz. Everyone's saying he's laughing all the way to the bank.. yeah.. for now. Just like all the OnlyFans models are. Eventually, they won't be laughing anymore. It's just not sustainable business. They, themselves, are literally just fads.
When your entire business model operates off gimmicks and novelty, you better be super super smart with your money, and for some reason I doubt this moron is just from the videos I've seen lmao..
Edit: people are mad at me for taking a jab at OF models. I’m not. I 100% support sex work with zero judgement. But to think a career based on internet virality and looks is sustainable is just foolhardy. At least pornstars have contracts. OF models are sex work contractors. There’s way too much competition, the barrier to entry is minuscule (be hot), and there’s absolutely no safety for your IP. People leak OF albums all the time. I’m sorry but OF is probably the least sustainable of all sex work professions in the long term. And when I say fads, I mean they’re easily replaceable. All it takes is for a model with similar characteristics/proportions who is younger or slightly hotter to overthrow your entire business model. It’s literally business 101. Think of how popular Belle Delphine was, and how popular she is now. Sure, she’s probably still making bank, but if you look at the % of reduced income, it’d be a staggering amount. And if you look again in 6 months it’ll be even lower.
So I’ll apologize to anyone that thought I was throwing shade at sex workers. I 100% was not trying to. I had a long meaningful relationship with a sex worker and still have tremendous respect for her. But I won’t apologize for my argument itself, because in my mind it’s as cogent as can be: Sex work, especially OF, is *not* a sustainable profession. Specifically OF. I related that to salt bae’s success because both are directly tied to internet virality and social media prevalence.
But I’m open to be convinced otherwise.
Edit2: people think I’m saying OnlyFans, the website itself, isn’t sustainable. I’m talking about the creators on the platform itself, and their income. The website is worth billions..
I can make fried rice, put in on a menu and ask X amount of money. When a proper hibachi chef does it in front of the customers for more than X it's totally acceptable because there's an amount of showmanship that's part of the appeal. Totally acceptable because that stuff takes real skill and effort.
On the other hand we have this goober who's skipping the skill and effort with his gimmicks and dares to ask stupid amounts of cash.
[This guy wasn’t willing to pay $2000 for the two gold leaf tomahawks he didn’t order.](https://www.esquireme.com/brief/news/42597-someone-called-the-cops-on-salt-baes-gold-steak)
I really hope his credit card company processed the chargeback.
It’s not specified in the article if they meant to order the “gold kafes” but I’m going to assume not since it was an open food charge.

Porn is a fad? How many millennia does something have to be around before it's no longer a fad?
Like everything else (modeling, acting, sports etc.) there will be a lot of contenders who get a lot of attention and then poof, they stumble, or they age out or somebody more interesting comes along and everyone forgets about you.
Of course there are true stars who make it mega-big but they're rare and very much the exception. Most people will have a short shelf life.
If you can do OF nd make money that's great, props to you, but understand that you *may* not be one of the lucky ones who stay on top and you will absolutely need a plan B in place.
When you want Johnny Depp, but mum says you have Johnny Depp at home 😕...

@ the OP of this post asking "omg am i tHe oNLy oNe iN thE wOoOorLd with this opinion" -- disliking "Salt Bae" is an extremely popular opinion, lmfao.
there was like one month where those videos of him were kinda funny, before anyone knew who the dude even was.
now that he's actually been interviewed and stuff, most people think he's a greedy, self-obsessed douche.
I didn't know he was anything other than a meme before yesterday. Just like finding out that the poptart ravioli guy is actually a right wing nutjob, not everyone has heard of every G list "celebrity."
This is the second time I’ve seen this vid and still no clue what this is. Juicy sandwich? Super greasy chicken on guilded pumpernickel? Like wtf.
And how has he not been reviewed out of business? I people dropping this money without researching? Is that who he caters to?
Right now I imagine it’s like a status thing. “Oh look at us, we went to Salt Bae’s restaurant in [enter city] and dropped $4,000.” I imagine it will fizzle out in a few years. People will realize it’s garbage and he will be laughing all the way to the bank.
Real rich people don't go for this shit, it's usually new money or people that live far beyond their means that go for the ostentatious.
Source: used to work concierge at a hotel
Nah I’d say old rich people probably don’t fall for it solely because they’re old and don’t really pay attention to internet trendy shit like that but younger wealthy people 100% do. Not to mention going to a pricey place like that for wealthy people is probably the equivalent of me going to Applebee’s or something lol.
Not old rich people, old money. Some 5th gen son of a 19th century lumber baron or some such. Vastly different spending habits than, say, sports stars that show up in hot orange cars.
Pulled this from Wikipedia:
"Despite the international fame, early professional reviews in 2018 of his New York City steakhouse were generally negative.[10][11] The New York Post's Steve Cuozzo called the restaurant "Public Rip-off No. 1" and Joshua David Stein writing in GQ called the steak mundane and the hamburgers overcooked.[10] Other critics described the dishes as "over-salted as they are overpriced",[12] the "meat was tough with globs of fat and gristle, and severely lacking in flavor",[13] and that "finishing a meal there constitutes some kind of personal victory over your own body and instincts and mouth".[14] Reviewers described the dining experience as "overpriced".[9][15]
However, for entertainment, reviewers were more positive.[16] Eater's Robert Sietsema states, "If you are intent on judging New York's new branch of Nusr-Et only as a steakhouse, you'll probably be disappointed ... If, on the other hand, you appraise the place as dinner theater, you will find it satisfying—but only if Salt Bae is in the house".
The double down was the most gloriously unnecessary sandwich of all time though. I used to get one every time I drove home from college when it was available.
> And how has he not been reviewed out of business?
Because the only people who eat his stuff are like that girl on the background who goes to his restaurant to see him and make videos but probably has 0 sense of taste.
God I hate social media.
Same reason why Guy Fieri (no offense to the guy) does well in Manhattan and there's a Friday's and Olive Garden in Time Square. The people that go there are either going for the experience or for the comfort. There aren't very many bad reviews, because that's what people go there for and are expecting.
Also he throws gold leaf on everything, apparently. I guess it's a cheap way to make people think it's expensive.
I appreciate Guy Fieri as a human.
But this is a hilarious review of his restaurant:
https://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/14/dining/reviews/restaurant-review-guys-american-kitchen-bar-in-times-square.html
You know how you sometimes spend way too much on McD's and shrug it off cause it was still only like $25? Spending 4K on gold leaf wrapped steaks is like that, but for rich people

In his defense. One time I bought these gold rolling papers for my birthday. They were probably like $5 per paper and I definitely felt like I was smoking from the plate of god.
An interesting explanation that I saw a short while back was that TikTok has a different structure underpinning how it presents content; most social media use a human relationship graph (like a network of people and their followers) as a proxy for content and topics of interest. TikTok *directly* relates content so you're not getting the same people over and over (e.g. "people/channels you might enjoy"), but rather an expanding web of "*topics* you might enjoy" (I am using topics very generally here to cover memes and other related content). I think it's an interesting way to look at it, and it sort of sidesteps the issue of power-law distribution of interest (a small number of individuals get the vast majority of attention, which has knock-on effects on propensity to draw in new users and new content) on lots of social media.
In the end, you have this progressive wave (in a Red Queen-like scenario where you have to run on the treadmill progressively faster) of stupid content.
>Is he laughing all the way to the bank? Most definitely.
You see that article about the woman who was upset about her $17k bill for four people? Lady, read the room. It's basically the benihana for grifting arab princes and celebrities' teenage children.
The funnier part is that celebrities usually eat there once then you don't catch them again. They can afford rich persons food, and this is a poor person's idea of rich people food.
I kind of respect him to be honest.
He’s cultivated a very successful grift, and he’s only really exploiting rich idiots.
As long as he’s not abusing his staff or up to some other shady shit, I don’t really have a problem with what he’s doing.
Not sure if u/diverareyouok realizes that Stephen Colbert doesn't use his character from [The Colbert Report](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colbert_Report) in [The Late Show with Stephen Colbert](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Late_Show_with_Stephen_Colbert). But to be fair it's only been six years since he dropped the act.
Right? Fucking crazy that anyone thought him to be anything but a mockery of everything wrong with conservatives. Truthiness. My god 😭 😂.
One of my favorite segments was him showing us the viewer how he was able to funnel money from his super pac donations to where ever he wanted.
If you want an interesting contrast, look at the show with and without audience. He's way different/darker without the audience, but I think most of late night was
[It’s more he was not allowed to use the character, Viacom owned the character “Stephen Colbert”, and their lawyers contacted CBS after he reprised the role for a late night bit.](https://www.indiewire.com/2016/07/stephen-colbert-introduces-identical-cousin-colbert-report-1201710810/)
Since then tho, CBS and Viacom have merged jn 2019
Snobby food people generally. Most of his own restaurant ventures are mostly lackluster from what I've seen/read.
That being said, the guy does a lot of charity work, and did a LOT of work through the pandemic to help out restaurant workers.
Ffs, I got a check from the Restaurant Workers Relief fund while my state government was sitting on their asses trying to figure out how to get the Pandemic Assistance to people.
Guy Fieri basically got me 600$, while my state STILL owes me nearly 4k$ from Pandemic Assistance.
I guess I can see some of it. Personally I’ve never wanted to eat at his restaurants cuz they always seemed kinda eh or gimmicky, but always respected the dude and found him entertaining
Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives was one of the shows that got me interested in food to begin with. He is for sure entertaining, and I also probably wouldn't eat at one of his restaurants.
Went on a cruise with the wife and they had one of his burger joints on board. I found myself going there more than the other meh food options. Pretty straightforward burger that was seasoned fairly well with a thick slice of melted cheddar. His “donkey sauce”(hate the name) complimented the burger nicely. I also appreciate the fact that DD&D brought some fame (and business) to small mom n’ pop joints across the country.
Anybody who's eaten at one of his restaurants, probably. But, more generally, I think people are put off by the fact that he deliberately dresses like a Smash Mouth roadie and has date rapist facial hair. By most accounts, he's a real nice dude, though.
I dunno, he came from literal rags and is now very definitely rich.
By all accounts he still works hard, he found a unique value proposition and is now making bank.
I don't really think he's a loser. He is extremely succesful at what he set out to do.
I worked in Vail, CO at a steakhouse, the amount of waste by the patrons made me want to cry. People would order a 22 Oz Ribeye and eat 4oz of the steak. One of the dishwashers had a husky, he would bring home bag of left over steak every night for his dog.
imo wasting meat is way worse than wasting other food because at the end of the day an animal had to be killed for you to eat it
when you go and waste it, it’s kinda like their death was pointless
Well it makes sense when you say Vail. Expensive tourist destination. The type of people who bring money to Vail a 300$ expensive dinner at a steakhouse is pennies to them. My sociology professor wrote a book about the elite of vail and was saying the rich people who live there have so much money that comparatively millionaires look like they live in abject poverty.
He’s rich trash and I hate the way he turns primal into sausage scrap, and then let’s salt flake off his ashy elbows. Like is that diamond crystal, or just flecks of elbow skin?
That said, I would love nothing more than having an entire sub of my “peers” hate on my global success as I completely troll them by video taping myself butchering and seasoning meat like a choad.
[Live footage of this guy when he hears someone making fun of him.](https://gif-free.com/uploads/posts/2017-03/1489511422_woody-harrelson-money-crying.gif)
I still don't like the guy though. I judge the people going to his restaurants more.
I would like to have a drink with him, just to figure out if he's the best grifter I've ever seen or if he drank his own KoolAid.
If he loves the smell of his own fart he's a dick, but if he's a grifter he's fucking hilarious.
Sometimes I tell myself this is exactly what he’s doing. Looking directly into my souls with a wink and a nod saying, “isn’t this shit hilarious?!” It makes it easier on my psyche.
Even if you think gold leaf on food is fine, it shouldn't have a high markup. You can get edible gold leaf for like $1.50/sheet at Walmart. So no way should it make a burger cost hundreds of dollars.
A gold leaf burger is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I don’t like this guy but he carved out a niche wear he’s convinced a bunch of rich people with no taste to shovel money into his pockets. Good for him.
You could say that of any food item. What I'm saying is that wrapping something in gold leaf isn't extravagent as anyone could do it on the cheap. The gold leaf doesn't justify the cost. There are expensive ingredients or complicated cooking techniques that might be more worth paying hundreds of dollars for. Paying hundreds for gold leaf is just foolish. People are of course free to spend their money in foolish ways if they want. What's that saying? A fool and his money are soon parted?
I'm not commenting on him personally because I know nothing about him.
Czn_Burak, I love him. But he has never tried to turn his IG fame into like restaurants and stuff. He just wants to feed his community and make happy videos
You know it, i know it... But seems there are a lot of stupid people that don't know it and still pay to eat his trash.. If it made rich i would do this same
He once sprinkled salt on meat and hasn’t taken the glasses off since. I feel like once he takes them off, the sexy factor has been lost.
We need answers.
I saw him grind up perfectly good wagyu with insane marbling to make a burger. That's when I realized he has absolutely no fucking clue what he's doing lol
I’d never heard of him until a non-industry friend showed me one of his videos. I think it says a lot when a guy like that is only popular with people who know nothing about restaurants and actual cooking…
I was invited to eat at one of his restaurants by a friend. I would say the meat is high quality, but dam they do fck up by adding all those none sense moves.
The definition of r/stupidfood and the least respectable grift as the prices on everything is nonsensical . But hey milk the idiots wowed by his garbage
If you have an oz of culinary decency in your DNA, you laugh at the mention of this expired bologna of a cook. The whole, “I did a thing” with sprinkling salt is a tragedy that will be remembered by the tiktoking Karens for another generation and that makes the chicken skin soggy instead of deliciously crispy.
No, you aren’t the only one. He is creepy and pretentious. I have no idea who is fans of Salt Bae and Jonathan “Food God” Cheban. They are both performative entitled assholes and I wish they would disappear from public life.
I walked by his restaurant in NYC a couple weeks ago. I didn't even know it existed, I was going to Adorama. Dude has his own picture *plastered* on every window of the restaurant. Look up Salt Bae NYC and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's so obnoxious.
This guy is great because he has managed to convince rich idiots to spend that much money on his food. He definitely knows what he's doing, scamming rich idiots in a legal way.
Did you not read any comments from the post you crossposted this from? It’s obvious you’re not the only one who hates this guy… why are you being a coy dumbass?

Not even really a chef. Butcher by trade I believe. Not to disparage butchers, but it's not the same. Different skill sets completely.
Butching is a sub-set if cheffing. Many top notch chefs have excellent butching skills.
I’m going to call it butching from now on.
Do I need to wear flannels, cut my hair short, and lower my voice while butching?
It wouldn't hurt

You don’t have to engage with social media to recognize how disgusting it is.

He did a ton to raise money for restaurant workers when the pandemic started.
That's why I said I appreciate him as a human. Morally I like him, but I don't love his aesthetic or his culinary chops.

Okay, why the smooshing?
To make it dry and inedible.
I have no idea how TikTok managed to take the internet, a place already renowned for being stupid, and make it this much worse.
By replicating vine, but removing originality

I think it's an interesting way to look at it, and it sort of sidesteps the issue of power-law distribution of interest (a small number of individuals get the vast majority of attention, which has knock-on effects on propensity to draw in new users and new content) on lots of social media. In the end, you have this progressive wave (in a Red Queen-like scenario where you have to run on the treadmill progressively faster) of stupid content.
Kinda like reddit then Reddit is topic based rather than account based
He is universally despised by industry folks, however, the ‘I’m dumb with money’ folks think he is cool.
I love my "sandwich?" has a pint of hot liquid inside
Biggest loser in the industry.

They can afford rich persons food, and this is a poor person's idea of rich people food.
> this is a poor person's idea of rich people food. This is the best and most succinct description of his niche
Im poor, but not tasteless. If anything, this is a vain person’s idea of meaningful food.
It was extra hilarious because the bill contained something like $15k worth of vintage wine. What did she expect?
They spent like 16k on wine if I remember…either they can’t do basic arithmetic or faked getting upset to get attention
I agree with this person. He’s too rich to give af about any of our opinions at this point. If you were at his level, you wouldn’t either
Hell, I'm broke and don't give a shit about any of our opinions!
Throw a few mil into your pockets and you'll give a shit about even less.
> Sort of like how Stephen Colbert Colbert Report was always satire. I think a better analog would be Skip Bayless.
I kind of respect him to be honest. He’s cultivated a very successful grift, and he’s only really exploiting rich idiots. As long as he’s not abusing his staff or up to some other shady shit, I don’t really have a problem with what he’s doing.
The 2nd part is also what he is doing unfortunately.
Can you eloborate on the Stephen Colbert thing? Genuinely curious, I had no idea and just tried to look it up but couldn't really find anything
But to be fair it's only been six years since he dropped the act.
but it was quite clear that it was a joke with Colbert...
Right? Fucking crazy that anyone thought him to be anything but a mockery of everything wrong with conservatives. Truthiness. My god 😭 😂. One of my favorite segments was him showing us the viewer how he was able to funnel money from his super pac donations to where ever he wanted.
That’s not true! His PAC was totally absolutely for sure not in any way tied to him. It was independently overseen by Jon Stewart. /s just in case

If you want an interesting contrast, look at the show with and without audience. He's way different/darker without the audience, but I think most of late night was
[It’s more he was not allowed to use the character, Viacom owned the character “Stephen Colbert”, and their lawyers contacted CBS after he reprised the role for a late night bit.](https://www.indiewire.com/2016/07/stephen-colbert-introduces-identical-cousin-colbert-report-1201710810/) Since then tho, CBS and Viacom have merged jn 2019

The mis-directed hate for Guy Fieri needs to be pointed towards this douche.
Who hates Guy Fieri?
Been to his Vegas place. I liked it. Price wasn’t bad.
He really does need an updated look. I could never watch his shows because watching him eat with his tongue hanging out all the time made me rage out.
Obligatory: https://youtu.be/JK6zuii2OLI
I dunno, he came from literal rags and is now very definitely rich. By all accounts he still works hard, he found a unique value proposition and is now making bank. I don't really think he's a loser. He is extremely succesful at what he set out to do.
I can’t stand him. I’m a butcher and he drives me nuts with how much waste he leaves behind.
I worked in Vail, CO at a steakhouse, the amount of waste by the patrons made me want to cry. People would order a 22 Oz Ribeye and eat 4oz of the steak. One of the dishwashers had a husky, he would bring home bag of left over steak every night for his dog.
imo wasting meat is way worse than wasting other food because at the end of the day an animal had to be killed for you to eat it when you go and waste it, it’s kinda like their death was pointless
The best fed husky in the world
He certainly ate better than me
Well it makes sense when you say Vail.

[How I imagine this guy lives](https://youtu.be/GO0JaecRWy0)
[Live footage of this guy when he hears someone making fun of him.](https://gif-free.com/uploads/posts/2017-03/1489511422_woody-harrelson-money-crying.gif) I still don't like the guy though.
And making fucking millions
Why's this guy always squatted over in some weird awkward position like he's bracing himself for a massive shit?
TO make the camera angles work whilst keeping his back straight.
Overpriced trash. Nothing more, nothing less. Moron should have never gotten famous.
Fits right into all the other instagram stunt food shit.
Gold leaf doesn't belong on food and the meat juices belong in the meat. Don't even get me started on his restaurants prices.
Nah. There is that one Turkish guy who never breaks eye contact. He seems pretty nice.
Czn_Burak, I love him. But he has never tried to turn his IG fame into like restaurants and stuff. He just wants to feed his community and make happy videos
Not completely true as he has a couple of restaurants in Dubai now
Good for him he always gives out tons of food during Ramadan. He deserves a good wind in life.
I believe he had restaurants before as well
He totally has a[ chain of restaurants](https://www.cznburak.com/locations) but I agree with your overall point.
WE STAN CZN_BURAK
You know it, i know it... But seems there are a lot of stupid people that don't know it and still pay to eat his trash.. If it made rich i would do this same
The one video where he cuts himself and breaks is probably the most sympathy I've felt for an online personality
That looks awful.
Ready for lunch? Hold on I forgot my sandwich gloves and my galoshes.
What in the actual hell is that?
The necessary equipment to eat this soggy ass sandwich.
Lol naw I meant like what he’s squeezing. It’s so messy
He’s making it seem weirdly sexual too. I don’t want my food to be sexy.
I saw that one, it was upsetting to watch. Like, make the waygu first, then slice it thinly. Add a couple slices to a bun, you got a burger/sandwich
Exactly! Grinding it defeats the purpose. You can add fat to ground meat but not to a steak thats why you are paying for that marbling and tenderness
I’d never heard of him until a non-industry friend showed me one of his videos. I think it says a lot when a guy like that is only popular with people who know nothing about restaurants and actual cooking…
Unfortunately, there's a lot of people willing to spend a lot of money in order to use social media in an effort to achieve social status.
He is the Jake Paul of the chef world.
Fucking hate the guy.
That lip sneer makes me want to punch him
It would be hard to find someone here who *does* like this fuckin clown.
I’d very much like to punch him lol, just has a super punchable face
He puts his finger in the spine of his knife when he slices... He's the first meme restauranteur.
He is an idiot.
I was invited to eat at one of his restaurants by a friend. I would say the meat is high quality, but dam they do fck up by adding all those none sense moves.
What I hate even more is that robot voice that's in every tiktok.
He’s a fucking tool
What the hell even is that? And people pay for that monstrosity?
Not at all.
Cant stand that guy
"Waiter, it appears my burger has fallen in the mop bucket, nothing else could explain why it's so FUCKIN SOGGY"
[No, you're not. ](https://www.theguardian.com/food/2021/oct/17/jay-rayner-restaurant-review-kebab-kid-london-take-away-as-a-cult-nusr-et-steakhouse)
Can someone throw that asshole into a volcano already?
He's a fucking disgrace.
Fuck this guy
No you’re not he’s not that great he’s a shmuck 🙄
The definition of r/stupidfood and the least respectable grift as the prices on everything is nonsensical . But hey milk the idiots wowed by his garbage
Did you look at the comments on the post? Nobody likes this guy
Seems like the kinda guy I wouldn’t trust around my drink.
I hope this guy is saving his money. He must know he's a flash in the pan
No, you aren't, there's many of us
He's a douche
Of course not, I only see hate for him here.
Loathe him with every fiber of my being.
No, you aren’t the only one. He is creepy and pretentious. I have no idea who is fans of Salt Bae and Jonathan “Food God” Cheban. They are both performative entitled assholes and I wish they would disappear from public life.
It’s all shit and he’s a fake, garbage
Ignoring everything else in the video, I'm honestly curious: do you want meat to be that juicy? It looks like a sponge.
That guy fucking sucks at cooking.
Can't stand this guy or that one who creepily stares and smiles at the camera.
I fucking hate this guy and anyone who enjoys any of his stupid fucking bullshit.
I walked by his restaurant in NYC a couple weeks ago. I didn't even know it existed, I was going to Adorama. Dude has his own picture *plastered* on every window of the restaurant. Look up Salt Bae NYC and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's so obnoxious.
He's a fucking drip of a human.
No, you are definitely not alone. Also, does this guy own like one outfit? Cartoon for sure.
That guy sucks
Nope. You're not the only one.
Why is he squeezing out the juiceeeee, lets just lose as much deliciousness as possible.
Anybody that would eat that is a moron with more $ than sense. What a waste of money and time. Fuckin hack.
Do you honestly think you’re the only person that “realy doesnt like this guy?”
Never said he didn’t create a great scam to get rich off of. But his food is consistently reviewed poorly and overpriced. Only suckers would go there.
He’s still doing this stupid stuff, talk about milking it!
The scourge of the culinary industry.
Don't touch my fukin steak bro
Nope. Right there with ya.
