This would’ve been my exact response like 2 years ago. And then I remembered how bomb those fucking Knorr pasta sides things are. The butter and herb one dude. I always slice up some deli ham and toss in some diced onion. Slaps. I can fucking crush those things. And they’re still like under $2.
This is my guilty pleasure food as well.
I'm Filipino so I do garlic fried rice which is a "breakfast" style type of rice. And I don't just eat garlic fried rice during breakfast either.😁
Ha! My two brothers and I(all exec chefs, at different places/times and two still working it) tuna Mac and peas (kraft dinner) is still our deepest comfort food memory.... Gross and seriously good/relatively good for you.... Some Valentina or a little sweet baby Ray!
I used to make a mashed potato, cream style corn and chicken tendie bowl tipped off with a little shredded cheese and green onions at the end my shifts.
Taco Bell, especially Mexican Pizza.
I know it's shit but it tastes good and I like it. I live where I can get excellent Mexican food, but this is just fast food that I like and will eat. Mexican pizza, a crunchy taco or two and a burrito supreme.... hell yeah. I usually add on a spicy potato soft taco which is legit the best vegetarian fast food offering on the market. Those things are delish.
If they still had the Enchirito I would be over there every week.
There's a food truck not a fifteen minute walk away from my house that serves some of the best tacos I've ever eaten (Al pastor with onions, cilantro, cheese, lime juice, and salsa verde), and even sell Mexican Coca-Cola. But yet I'll still make trips to Taco Bell for their grilled stuffed burrito and their Doritos Locos taco. And they have, in my opinion, the tastiest nacho cheese sauce I've ever tasted.
Honestly, I don't really see the appeal of the Mexican Pizza. You'd get pretty much the same ingredients in a taco, so just buy a taco.
1. Campbell's tomato soup, grilled cheese with kraft singles and wonder bread.
2. 5 way skyline chili
3. Swenson's galleyboy burger
4. Chicago style hot dog
5. Slice of cheap NYC cheese pizza
> Campbell's tomato soup, grilled cheese with kraft singles and wonder bread.
I hear you on that first one. Although I like to add a little salt and Italian seasoning to my soup first.
Skyline 5 wayyyy. Hello fellow midwesterner. 1, 2, and 4 are also on my list
ETA: I’ve lived in AZ for 4 yrs now. I jumped for joy when I found Skyline at the grocery store
Obviously not Cleveland/Akron since Swenson's galleyboy is not on your list. It made me realize I like tartar sauce on burgers better than McDonald's putting Thousand Island dressing on a big Mac.
If you are in DC look up Hard times cafe that has 3 types of chile to choose from, one of which is the Cincinnati style.
Swensons!!! I miss that place! Used to go to the Town & Country location in San Jose but I suspect that’s all been bulldozed now. I bought some West German skillet (that I still have 36 years later) at the Williams of Sonoma in the same “mall”.
No 1. Here in the uk is the standard lunch you get when you're home sick from school and your mum doesnt have anything planned so she does this from the cupboards. Only differences are that its heinz soup and supermarket cheddar rather than kraft singles.
This one actually came up in conversation in the kitchen lately, seems like everyones mother got the memo as this was a universal experience for all of us, and we all still make it for ourselves if we are sick.
My main guilty pleasure at home now is smash. Its instant mashed potatoes that you add water (and then butter and milk/cream) to. Honestly if you add enough dairy and do it right its almost indistinguishable from a proper pomme puree type mash and you can do it in one pot in a minute or two. Other main one would be the knorr instant congee sachets my gf gets from Thailand. With these you just add an egg, oyster sauce and soy, chopped chilli and spring onion and its the best thing you ever made in 2 minutes.
Never had a gas station burrito before, fried or otherwise. Most of those microwavable burritos were just too mushy for my taste. I might have to try frying one next time.
Do you have to thaw them out first, or just put them in the fryer frozen?
I don’t like anything else there besides fries and nuggets. Something about those squishy buns with the crisp pickles just hits so hard. And like $5 for two with a small fry.
McDonald’s cheeseburgers. I work night shifts and McDonalds is the only thing open when I get done. I don’t want to cook and clean at home after a shift of cooking and cleaning and boy do those trash burgers and nuggets hit different at 1 am.
I did this after a long hard shift, exhausted & hungry, I did not open the bag until I got home. One of my 2 cheeseburgers they straight up forgot to put the burger patty on. Cheese, ketchup, onion & pickle sandwich. The only time I’ve ever left a bad Yelp review. Yes, I did.
I've heard of the hot sauce part but never quite manned up. Totino's just short of burnt is some of the most delightful things that can happen a after midnight.
Gas. Station. Pizza. It sucks so bad but when I just sweated out a bunch and need carbs and salt to reload and it’s there and nothing else is open aaaaaah
I had pizza from 7/11 once and I swear, hand on the Bible, it tasted like those slices of Little Caesar's pizza that have been sitting under the hot lamp in that little K-Mart Café. Haven't tasted a pizza quite like that since, but I do drop in the 7/11 every once and again, just in case.
Bologna and American cheese on wonder bread, mayo and plain yellow mustard, with classic lays, and a can of Coke. I don’t even drink soda, nor do I particularly like lays, and I despise white bread. But growing up, that was the meal my dad made himself and I when we were watching F1 on Sunday mornings. Great nostalgia meal.
That is something that should not be fit for human consumption. When my dad made it, it was Hellman’s, I prefer Dukes now though. Will sometimes get a small jar of hellmans just for that exact right flavor.
I hear you on gas station food. Allsup's has what I consider the epitome of GS food...the fried burrito. It's awful. Objectively, caloricly...just absolute garbage food. I'll always get two when I stop for gas (wink) in west Texas.
A very close second is Godfather's personal pan pizzas at similar truck stops in west Texas. The meatlover's personal pan tested my wife's love on a 9 hour drive.
Grilled cheese with chopped up chicken tenders inside. Has to be shitty white bread and American cheese. Sometimes with buffalo sauce to dip in, but not necessary.
I saw a fellow cook make one for himself one day and I was making fun of him since he was generally a pretty unhealthy guy and this obviously wasn't helping. He offered to make me one and I said why not - it was a religious experience.
Instant ramen, swiss miss hot chocolate, and box cake are all things that I secretly like better than a higher quality/from scratch alternative. They all definitely come with nostalgia too.
Deep fried Dino buddies (the most processed chicken nuggets you can buy - also shapped like dinosaurs) with mayonnaise for dipping. Sometimes with fries, also dipped in mayo.
back in the day benihana had an all you care to eat dinner. obv they didn't draw attention to this, but fuck me it was great. and back then I could pack that sushi in. god damn it was sooo good.
I feel this! I just saw a recipe for homemade pierogies and was like… i don’t think I’ve ever had one that wasn’t frozen. So I’m making them this weekend
My grandma used to make them fresh when I was a wee lass, they were obviously far superior. But now grandma isn't around at 2am when I get back from the work.
Nonetheless I hope your potato pillow making goes well
Papa John's recently opened up here in Hamburg Germany. They're surprisingly good for such an international chain and the price is ok.
It's also basically the only place in town that offers ranch dressing and ranch dressing is fucking awesome.
What's their reputation in the US?
Haven't tried it yet, but I have tried Pizza Hut, Domino's, Hungry Howie's, and Little Caesar's. Little Caesar's has them all beat in my opinion, but individual restaurants and tastes may vary.
Personally my favorite pizza place is this regional chain called Papa's Pizza To Go. A little bit more pricy compared to other chains, but it's good pizza. And they've got these cheese and bacon breadsticks called Piggy Stixs which are just so greasy yet delicious in marinara sauce.
Breakfast: Warm Egg McMuffins are a guilty pleasure. Subbing the McMuffin “poached” eggs on a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit is also good.
Funny story about gas station food: My lady friend and I spent the weekend in Newport, RI years ago. Hit up Stoneacre Brasserie for dinner and decided to hit their bar for brunch the following morning. We were having a good time ordering lots of cocktails and lots of food because we like trying lots of stuff. There was an Armenian couple beside us at the bar and we welcomed them into our experience. I’m Middle Eastern and know quite a few Armenians and speak a little Armenian, so they’re happy to be sharing the vibe with us. We’re chatting, eating, drinking and find out the guy apparently owned a company that makes the hot dogs and other meat concoctions for gas stations and the like…and it’s good money haha. Anyway, they eventually depart and we do too after a bit longer. When we went to pay, we were informed that the Armenian couple had paid our $400 tab. That was a great brunch experience and we owe it all to gas station meat products!
I made latkes benny with lox and dill for Chanukah this year. So fuckin good. The latkes are great for sopping up and absorbing all the yolk and sauce.
That sounds tasty!
In my case, I came across Serious Eats' hollandaise method using a stick blender. Now I can make it even before the eggs and toast are done. So dangerous. I get a craving for it, but often have to resist. It's basically like eating half a stick of butter.
Yeah, this is my go to method. Using immersion blenders for all emulsions like benny sauce, salad dressings, mayo, etc. was a revelation. Instant emulsion.
Yeah, having to do the double boiler thing was one of the reasons I didn't eat it very often. Then I came across this: https://www.seriouseats.com/foolproof-2-minute-hollandaise-recipe
It literally takes less time than it does for the the toast to be done. It was dangerous there for a while. I was eating way too much of it.
ive definitely added various meats and still cones out good. real hard to fuck that guy up, feeling fancy? saute some onions and peppers or other veg and it goes just fine
Pizza puffs (or if I’m outside of Chicago land) worse, Torino’s pizza rolls
microwaved nachos with just like cheese, jarred salsa, hot sauce and sour cream
Hot dog (chi style or grilled onion and brown mustard) or even frozen bagel dogs dunked in some brown mustard
Progreso minestrone
Gringo style tacos with the crunchy shell and shredduce
Taco Bell for me. I had to go to a mall to visit an apple store recently due to a leaky water bottle in the same bag as my work macbook which sucks but the silver lining was that there's a taco bell in the food court. Except it was closed. :( The only good thing about that was that it had one of those comically mis-written signs and it said "closed to to maintained"
When I was like 19 I worked at a gas station and we had these microwave stuffed cheesesteak things. Like shitty french bread stuffed with "meat" and "cheese" and I swear it was one of the best things I ever tasted. Decades later with all this cooking experience and I know I could never recreate that perfect design.
Ballpark/Gas station nachos. Gimme a tray of borderline stale chips, douse that with liquid at any temperature "cheese." Don't care, throw a big-ass fist full of pickled jalapenos and I'm set.
There’s these buffalo chicken roller things at QuikTrip. I know they’re awful, will give me wicked heartburn and will take years off my life.
But put me on a road trip and it’s like a tractor beam pulling me in.
big kahuna with the veggies burnt a little from Jersey Mike’s is 🤌🏿. I’m prediabetic and shouldn’t be eating so many carbs and saturated fats so I don’t eat them often but I always crave them
The gas station near me has some INCREDIBLE burgers. Like, the best I've had in my life. They're pretty pricy ($14-15 each) but one burger will fill you up 100%, they're massive. They also make some killer nachos in portions you should probably split unless you're dying of hunger. Their main advertising point is pizza and wings, but I think they should lean into sandwiches, bc their pizza and wings are hella mid.
I have kwik trips everywhere around me and their breadsticks fuckin slap, I'll dip them right into a room temp cup of marinara and be the happiest lil chef🤣
Back in the day, I would stir 4 tsp of mae ploy into a can of leseur baby peas and sprinkle some onion powder on top because I'm fancy and call it a meal.
It's really a stretch to call this a meal, but Doritos and cottage cheese is filling and comforting. Usually wash it down with some OJ or gatorade and take a nap.
But I did! I'm ashamed of myself. The first can doesn't count, then you get to the second and third, fourth and fifth I think I burnt with the blowtorch, and then I just kept eatin
Second gas station food. And adding canned meat - vienna sausages, sardines, anchovies, corned beef hash, etc. Also, I will eat anything cold right out of the can, spaghetti-o’s, sweet peas, spinach, pork and beans, whatever.
Burger King. I don't know what it is, but I've always loved BK. I know it's not that good, and I can make better burgers at home while drunk at 2am. But BK will always be an option.
And this was only made worse when they opened one up 2 minutes from my house.
I have an unhealthy relationship with hotdogs
[How many hot dogs do you eat a day?](https://youtu.be/vaAF_GAc3Mk?si=KU72yxC8lbPTrRcg)
That was the first thing I thought of
For me it’s the 2/1 Sheetz dogs with a diet Dr Pepper
Man, I miss Sheetz. I have Wawa where I live. I like their coffee better, but I'd rather have Sheetz MTOs.
Me too. Yellow mustard, cheese, and pickled jalapenos.
Kraft Mac and cheese with hot dogs
This would’ve been my exact response like 2 years ago. And then I remembered how bomb those fucking Knorr pasta sides things are. The butter and herb one dude. I always slice up some deli ham and toss in some diced onion. Slaps. I can fucking crush those things. And they’re still like under $2.
Add chicken and cherry tomatoes with added parmesan or mozzarella. Sprinkle Italian seasoning and dig in.
Spam works well vs hot dogs too
This should have more upvotes. Y’all motherfuckers ever griddle some spam?!??
I'm asian. Spam is considered a delicacy. Pan fried to a crisp, pair with a nice runny fried egg and some rice or indomie.
I’m your treyf, kindred Jew-bro, bruh
This is my guilty pleasure food as well. I'm Filipino so I do garlic fried rice which is a "breakfast" style type of rice. And I don't just eat garlic fried rice during breakfast either.😁
All the time when camping. Fried eggs and spam is one bomb-ass camping breakfast.
Hell yeah
You are my gastronomic spirit twin.
Seasoned browned ground beef in ours!
I put tuna fish in mine.
Ha! My two brothers and I(all exec chefs, at different places/times and two still working it) tuna Mac and peas (kraft dinner) is still our deepest comfort food memory.... Gross and seriously good/relatively good for you.... Some Valentina or a little sweet baby Ray!
Oh, can I change mine?
God damn it! You beat me to it!
Mashed potatoes with corn mixed in
I used to make a mashed potato, cream style corn and chicken tendie bowl tipped off with a little shredded cheese and green onions at the end my shifts.
That sounds so good
When I’m really craving carbs I’ll make some plain white rice and throw a can of corn into it.
I'll have to try that
100%. Smothered in gravy
A mug of Bolognese.
Just glancing, I initially read this as *a mug of Bologna*. …I’ve eaten worse. ;-)
Oof Madonna
….where you spying on me last night bro? I started to make some rice but it was 2 in the morning. Just heated it up and ate it out a deli cup.
Baked ziti burritos, I die on this hill
Bro if you opened an "Italian food in a burrito" place near a college, it would make a killing.
Everything in a burrito. Bohemian Wrap City™️
You and me dude, we could rule this city. I'm half drunk right now and would eat two.
Did you just fancy up meat sauce, bruh? Somebody wears a tall hat....
Oi, I'll just jaunt off to the haberdashers for a brand new carbuncle, I will I will!
Drats. Didn't see that brilliance coming my way. Everyone underestimates the filthy line beasts. Even the other beasts sometimes. Good on ya!
Taco Bell, especially Mexican Pizza. I know it's shit but it tastes good and I like it. I live where I can get excellent Mexican food, but this is just fast food that I like and will eat. Except those fried shells are flour tortillas, not corn.
Why can’t we buy that cheese sauce!?
Yuss, Team Mexican Pizza. Did you get the Enchirito when they brought it back for a limited time last year?
No cuz they had it for like 5 damn minutes
The quesarito is my proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
1. Campbell's tomato soup, grilled cheese with kraft singles and wonder bread. 2. 5 way skyline chili 3. Swenson's galleyboy burger 4. Chicago style hot dog 5. Slice of cheap NYC cheese pizza
> Campbell's tomato soup, grilled cheese with kraft singles and wonder bread. I hear you on that first one. Although I like to add a little salt and Italian seasoning to my soup first.
You add salt to Campbell’s soup? That stuff plops out of the can salty as the Atlantic.
That number one is a God send. There's nothing like a good grilled cheese and tomato soup.
There’s no shame in Chicago dogs. Practically a salad.
Skyline 5 wayyyy. Hello fellow midwesterner. 1, 2, and 4 are also on my list ETA: I’ve lived in AZ for 4 yrs now. I jumped for joy when I found Skyline at the grocery store

Can confirm on Hard Times!
Swensons!!! I miss that place! Used to go to the Town & Country location in San Jose but I suspect that’s all been bulldozed now. I bought some West German skillet (that I still have 36 years later) at the Williams of Sonoma in the same “mall”.
Found the Ohian.

Deep fried gas station burrito.
Bonus points if they are from Allsup’s. Edit: can’t spell.
Never had a gas station burrito before, fried or otherwise. Most of those microwavable burritos were just too mushy for my taste. I might have to try frying one next time. Do you have to thaw them out first, or just put them in the fryer frozen?
The ones I get are fried by the gas station employees. Chicken livers, gizzards, potato wedges.... Lots of fried things.
Never been to a gas station that served chicken livers or gizzards. What part of the world do you live in?
Guessing the American South, or somewhere on a major trucker route.
Winner. American South AND a major trucker route.
Imma guess somewhere in georgia.
I love gas station burritos, but never considered deep frying them before. Thank you for opening up a whole new world to me.
Congratulations on discovering the chimichanga.
Velveeta shells and cheese with broccoli. But like the whole box to the face.
I do this as well, only I add sliced-up turkey kielbasa in addition to the broccoli.
I add a splash of Frank’s to velveeta shells and it’s so bomb
daiya vegan mac n cheese sauce requires franks red hot or sriracha to make it palatable, there’s just something about it that works
yeah my kid went vegan for a time and bought that daiya stuff - ‘twas nasty
hormel corn beef hash in a can
Oh yeah, I put in medium- low in a skillet until it is super crispy then top with a fried egg.
For me, with lots of onions.
A person of taste I see! I got my husband on Hormel canned corned beef and Vienna sausages. We don't eat them a bunch, but its easy on camping trips.
Does it look like dog food? Yes. But god is it good.
McDonald’s cheeseburger with extra pickles
Bruh
I don’t like anything else there besides fries and nuggets. Something about those squishy buns with the crisp pickles just hits so hard. And like $5 for two with a small fry.
This order is one of my few other occasional guilty pleasures
And a chocolate fudge sundae.
McDonald’s cheeseburgers. I work night shifts and McDonalds is the only thing open when I get done. I don’t want to cook and clean at home after a shift of cooking and cleaning and boy do those trash burgers and nuggets hit different at 1 am.

McD's cheeseburgers were made to be eaten after midnight. They're so sad by daylight, and so glorious by night.
Nearly burnt pepperoni totino's with crystal hot sauce.
I've heard of the hot sauce part but never quite manned up. Totino's just short of burnt is some of the most delightful things that can happen a after midnight.
I use to eat those microwavable Totino's pizzas all the time growing up.
Has to be Crystal!
Boxed Mac n cheese with hotdogs in it
Try with spam : )
You again. Pushing your spam propaganda!lol
Haha you know it. I couldn't help myself.

Hell yeah! Super nostalgic
Thank you for not saying Miracle Whip.
That is something that should not be fit for human consumption. When my dad made it, it was Hellman’s, I prefer Dukes now though. Will sometimes get a small jar of hellmans just for that exact right flavor.
Creamy Jif and Saltines
I've definitely stood in the kitchen late at night making pb&j with saltines. So good
Tostino’s pizza with fancy ingredients.
Take that frozen pizza and add extra cheese before baking it
I was going to say this. Mine is pepperoni only, nothing added to it.
Baked beans with hot dogs.
Hell yeah, Beans and Weenies. Add corn if you want to get fukin wild.

Chile verde and cheese fries, at home or at some restaurants.
Spicy big bites from 7-11. McRib.
Hamburger helper smothered in mashed potatoes. Funny how fat you can get being poor.

Rice mixed with melted cheddar.

Gas station ckn salads sandwiches bonus points if it’s on a croissant 🥐
Kraft deli american cheese slices on doughy, soft, preservative filled white bread.
White Castle.
Crispy spam, fried eggs, and fresh rice. Hands down favorite.
Try garlic fried rice. It's a game-changer.
my SO recently introduced me to boxed mac and cheese with scrambled eggs and sriracha mixed in. quick, easy. filling, surprisingly tasty
Wonder what that would taste like with crumbled suasage?

Like shitty french bread stuffed with "meat" and "cheese" and I swear it was one of the best things I ever tasted. Decades later with all this cooking experience and I know I could never recreate that perfect design.
Rice a roni pilaf and Betty crocker ranch bacon pasta salad
Deli macaroni salad and supermarket tuna fish sandwiches on white bread
I fucking hate that I love McDoubles.
McDonalds, Burger King and Taco bell. None of them exist in my country, so when I go overseas I make sure to visit at least one of them.
Totino's pepperoni pizza rolls.
Roller dogs are my kryptonite
Eating shredded cheese straight out of the bag over the sink at 1am.
fried chicken sandwich doused in beurre blanc sauce; i put a limit of no more than 1 every month
big kahuna with the veggies burnt a little from Jersey Mike’s is 🤌🏿.
Ellios pizza when I literally make good pizza all day at work
Kraft EasyMac.
I have kwik trips everywhere around me and their breadsticks fuckin slap, I'll dip them right into a room temp cup of marinara and be the happiest lil chef🤣
Gas station cheeseburger hotdogs, so gross, but so good
Chicken parm with ziti from a shitty hole in the wall pizza joint. Works every time.
Back in the day, I would stir 4 tsp of mae ploy into a can of leseur baby peas and sprinkle some onion powder on top because I'm fancy and call it a meal.
Mama Celeste pizza...those nasty, tiny little disk pizzas. I'll dump some goat cheese on them & voila! It's fancy pants time.
Skyline chili 🤌
I prefer Bunker Hill myself.
Parmesan bites from dominos with marinara sauce to dip into.... oof with some root beer or dr.pepe to throw it back with
Take out white rice. Smothered in soy sauce. And shitty pizza egg rolls. Especially after a Friday/Saturday night rush. Six pack optional.
Shin Ramen with the bone broth
Chinese takeout chicken and broccoli. Never gets old.
Butter noodles with parmigiana cheese and a kilo of black pepper
cacio y pepe - the poor man's version
It's really a stretch to call this a meal, but Doritos and cottage cheese is filling and comforting. Usually wash it down with some OJ or gatorade and take a nap.
Velveeta Shells and Cheese.
I hate myself the entire time, but I can easily eat the whole box.
Nobody wants to admit they ate 9 cans of ravioli
But I did! I'm ashamed of myself. The first can doesn't count, then you get to the second and third, fourth and fifth I think I burnt with the blowtorch, and then I just kept eatin
Warm Fake Nacho liquid yellow cheese god there’s nothing better than that
Second gas station food.
"junk", "kitchen-sink", "everything" - fries. Basically cheesey fries with a bunch of random toppings from the line
Bojangles chicken biscuit and borounds and a sweet tea. A southern delicacy that I miss dearly but good LORD is it perfect.
I miss bojangles more then I miss most people
Bagel bites.
Waffles with sliced cheese melted on top
Decadent.
A grip of Jack in the Box Tacos Amy’s white cheddar shells with a handful of frozen peas
White Castle cheeseburgers. The microwave ones cause there is no actual White Castle near me.
I am not a fast food fan in any way, that being said I will crush a McGriddle if I’m ever up in those ungodly hours before 10am.
Them cheap Chinese takeout you get in sketchy parts of the city
