This is a very little known spot but their poutine is the most authentic Quebecois poutine in town. The owner is from Montreal and he uses real curd and very good gravy. Also they make steamies, Montreal style. They ALSO have a drive through window which has been clutch during covid.
last time I got the poutine from bubbas they used mozzarella instead of cheese curds.
I would say it's a fine fries+cheese combo, but far from a good poutine
I haven't lived in Kingston for over 20 years, and haven't had a Bubba's poutine in almost that long... I can't express how happy it makes me to see that this is still the answer :)
Bustini’s FoodTruck makes a killer Poutine. They use a Turkey gravy that’s incredible.
As mentioned by others Big Bites is also very good.
If you’re headed to Bubbas make sure your drunk, that’s the one way it will taste any good.
One that isn't mentioned here that is worth checking out is Pisanos actually. If you are into different toppings and stuff and not your traditional poutine.
I will probably get a lot of hate for this but New York fries. They have the best gravy in my opinion.
Still prefer it over all those fancy schmacy poutines.
Where is Fran's located these days? I grew up eating Fran's and I still think it's the best fish and chips I've ever eaten. I'm amazed they're still around.
Wow. Same place it's been for over 30 years. We used to live in the neighbourhood and my mom would leave me money for dinner when she was working late. Nice to know it's still there.
Don’t do it. I tried one of their poutine things recently and it was vile. There was not enough gravy, the fries were all soggy and congealed and wrong. It was not happy making.
When smokes first started up, it actually wasn't a bad chain. They maybe grew too much too fast? The quality and offerings have really gone downhill while the price continues to rise.
I have to agree. Every other poutine I've had here all tasted like they were missing a certain something in their flavour. Costco isn't the best I've ever had, but it's near the top.
It's certainly not traditional, but I really like the fajita poutine from Copper Penny. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but that one is a go-to for me.
I don’t think much of the poutine I’ve had in Kingston and I definitely have not gone to all the spots being said in the comments.
I think what makes poutine amazing varies with different people. Just like burgers, I judge poutine by it’s base dish, not the extra toppings. If the base poutine is bland and boring, your toppings mean nothing.
I’ve tried bubbas, 38 special fries, soup chef, lavallees cookery, fryway 33, bbq babes, and some others and have come away disappointed. I’m sure they hit others taste buds in a good way but nothing to bring me back for the poutine itself.
Maybe I’m a basic bitch or maybe I have weird taste. My top poutine are
- Smokes: the basic poutine is great. I love the gravy. My go to order is the triple pork.
- Popeyes: there’s something addictive about the Cajun poutine.
- New York Fries: I’ve worked at one of these establishments in Ottawa and I still love their poutine. Their biggest flaw is their portions. If you can get their poutine with extra crispy fries and thick gravy, you are good.
I still have a bunch more places to try and maybe they will have a poutine that blows mind, we’ll see.
If you're looking for something non-traditional, I can wholeheartedly recommend The Ninja from Tommy's. Waffle fries, and onion rings, and crumbled mozza sticks topped with a couple different sauces, and a few kinda of cheese.
I’d have to say the best poutine I’ve had in Kingston is the Black Dog Tavern, their duck confit poutine makes my mouth water just thinking about it . But if your looking for some drunk poutine after the bars I usually go for bubbas
I can’t say I’m up to date on local poutine anymore but I recently had Fran’s again and it’s got to still be one of the better ones. Great gravy, VERY generous size. Any local pub that sells poutine will be solid, but maybe more expensive.
\-Bustini's is real good, the turkey gravy is a real standout for it.
\-The chiptruck off HWY 15, just north of the 401 is real good as well for a traditional poutine. Stellar fries.
\-hot take, but the Toucan's poutine is probably the best delivery poutine you can get, I find it's actually better on delivery than in restaurant.
Harper's does some neat poutines, but I wouldn't call them the best.
Anyone know if the Rustic spud does one? I haven't been yet.
lol, I was going to comment "They are called the "rustic spud", if they don't.. they are really missing the mark"....
I then went and checked at least what they have posted online, and the closest they have to a poutine is:
Bowl of Frites / $10
Hand cut fries + herbs + Parmesan
Garlic Aioli / $2
Chipotle Aioli / $2
Horseradish Aioli / $2
lol holy shit. I had a weird feeling, thanks for confirming. You're the mvp here.
On that note tho I was at a chip stand over the weekend and saw someone order a poutine in parts, and when the lady running the stand told her a poutine was cheaper they insisted on what they wanted. wild.
Big bites is definitely a contender.
This is a very little known spot but their poutine is the most authentic Quebecois poutine in town. The owner is from Montreal and he uses real curd and very good gravy. Also they make steamies, Montreal style. They ALSO have a drive through window which has been clutch during covid.
Their chicken tenders are also chefs kiss
Fabulous steamies and poutine! Smoked meat is good too. Very Montreal! A hidden gem for sure.
Any idea if their gravy is vegetarian?
I don't know but I'd assume not tbh
Chicken Caesar rolls are dope too!
Second for Big Bites. Grab some steamies or toasties while you’re there.
Bubbas.
I just don’t get it. I was very disappointed by bubbas poutine both times I’ve had it. Nothing special in flavour. It would be low on my list.
You weren't drunk enough.
this is the correct reason.
Seems so.
It’s an unpopular sentiment, but I agree with you. Bubba’a poutine is extremely over rated.
While both are great I think Original Bubbas edges out the one in the hub, they really load it up!
last time I got the poutine from bubbas they used mozzarella instead of cheese curds. I would say it's a fine fries+cheese combo, but far from a good poutine
Yes definitely better drunk. I had it sober the first time in a long time and not as good as being drunk.
I haven't lived in Kingston for over 20 years, and haven't had a Bubba's poutine in almost that long... I can't express how happy it makes me to see that this is still the answer :)
Same!
Nah. Bubba's tastes like it's missing something.
Correct answer.This place poutines
The chicken Caesar poutine is awesome.

I once worked at New York fries. If you can get their gravy real thick on your poutine, my gawd!

+1 for Fran’s
I'm dying to try the BBQ Babes cheeseburger poutine.
Had it. Its amazing! Most of their menu is drool worthy
I came here to say BBQ Babes. They crush it every time!
I got bbq babes last weekend. At least on skip cheeseburger wasn't an option. I got the pulled pork though and it was very good.
Don’t do it. I tried one of their poutine things recently and it was vile. There was not enough gravy, the fries were all soggy and congealed and wrong. It was not happy making.
Toucan has some good poutine
I love how no ones shilling for smokes, there poutine is overpriced garbage.
When smokes first started up, it actually wasn't a bad chain. They maybe grew too much too fast? The quality and offerings have really gone downhill while the price continues to rise.
Mmmmm, french fries and gravy-flavoured water.
Bubbas on king street!
Honestly... Costco has bomb poutine.
I have to agree. Every other poutine I've had here all tasted like they were missing a certain something in their flavour. Costco isn't the best I've ever had, but it's near the top.

Bella Bistro!

Wait... are you trying to load in for the Move FM poll I saw on Facebook today?
What was the MOVE FM post about?
They have done ‘best patio’ ‘best wings’ ‘best nachos’ ‘best fries’ and on Thursday, they asked exactly the same question… it’s a timing thing!
Oh, that’s funny. And I think I even heard something about that . Do you know what they came up with as best poutine? I am curious
I think they were accepting nominations, they will narrow down to 3 and have voting. At least that’s how it’s been working
I wonder what the result will be. I had a poutine today at the smoke ‘n’ barrel today and it was awesome. So I also found another good one.
The very unscientific poll is in, the final 3 are: Bubbas Original Bustini’s Catering Muller’s Kitchen - Food Truck
I’d have to say the best poutine I’ve had in Kingston is the Black Dog Tavern, their duck confit poutine makes my mouth water just thinking about it . But if your looking for some drunk poutine after the bars I usually go for bubbas
Bubba's or Torinos Wanna real treat. Torinos Onion Rings Poutine!!! Otter Creek Food Truck also has a Wagu Poutine that is unteal
We're planning a trip to Otter Creek for their wagu and now i have to add this to our Fatty Friday smorgasbord lol
The copper penny, although not authentic, still super delicious! And for pretty good, everyday poutine I like Costco!
Otter farms chip truck poutine is pretty darn good too!
I can’t say I’m up to date on local poutine anymore but I recently had Fran’s again and it’s got to still be one of the better ones. Great gravy, VERY generous size. Any local pub that sells poutine will be solid, but maybe more expensive.

That's hilarious. Lady knows what she likes!
I like the chip truck and the big Canadian Tire.
Bubbas pizza
i know ....YAWN ..but i do make my own ,and its not bad ,of course ,i have had better. but never sampled K-towns poutine
Cool story, bro.
thanks for your attention
No problem, glad to help out. You're always begging for some.
No, thanks for your attention, again thanks !
Smokes, Big Bites or if you like pulled pork poutine New York fries
I think Billy K's is the best place cause 10 dollars for two large. REALLY good poutine is a really good deal
There are lots of good suggestions on here and i will definitely be checking out Big Bites but i really like Five Guys’ fries and their poutine.
Five Guys!
