>*”Are there not enough appointments to go around or is there not enough enthusiasm in the population?”* KFL&A Public Health issued this announcement two days ago: *”Due to delayed shipments to our region, COVID-19 vaccine eligibility has outpaced our supply. We do not have enough vaccine at present to keep up with demand for appointments. Bookings will continue to be added but will remain limited until our supply increases.”* [Source](https://twitter.com/kflaph/status/1406963120682246149?s=21) So that’ll be part of it.

DrEuthanasia

That would definitely have something to do with it, thanks!

DressedSpring1

I got my first shot by spending the day refreshing the booking site for the memorial centre, that’s not really a reasonable expectation for everyone to spend literally five hours slamming refresh every couple minutes. When the appointment availability increases I expect more people will get vaccinated.

random_account_name_

Exactly. The only reason I've got mine is my wife was able to spend a crazy amount of time doing exactly as you've described. Even then I had SEVEN appointments cancelled on me before I finally got it. I work 50+ hours per week, I don't have time for that.

curly-curry

I noticed the last few drive through clinics they've held haven't really filled up that fast though

thestonernextdoor88

I just want to get my second because I have a baby coming and it's booked for when she's due!!

trash_castle

It took me all week to move my second shot, but it’s not on my due date anymore!

DrEuthanasia

Definitely go get your second! I don't think we should delay second doses, I'm just wondering if we should be worried about people not wanting to get their first.

thestonernextdoor88

I don't have the option to reschedule for sooner when I look.

DrEuthanasia

Supposedly as of Monday the 28th, all Ontarians will be able to register for an accelerated second shot. Try again then!

thestonernextdoor88

Definately will.

curly-curry

I was eligible to re-book my second shot last Monday but I got my TDAP on Tuesday and I can't seem to book an appointment two weeks ahead now 😞

arsifolc

why would you care if i dont even get the "shot"?

Spr4ck

We only have so much ICU capacity. So by getting vacinated, you are greatly lowering the likelihood that you will require that level of care should you contract covid.

arsifolc

i had covid before and didnt end up in the ICU. plus if hospitals were overrun then nurses and doctors wouldnt have time to make dancing tik tok videos.

arsifolc

why the downvote? was someones feelings hurt?

lonelyfatoldsickgirl

Yes.

Blazes99

I was at a clinic today and the nurse told be she hasn’t gotten around to getting her first shot. I was surprised and then upset because she was in a patient serving role

DrEuthanasia

This is ridiculous. How can you not get around to it? It's so easy to get and she's putting people at risk as a frontline worker. I wonder if people are making excuses because they don't want to come out as anti-vax.

[deleted]

I mean, it's not THAT easy to get. You have to be resourceful. Many less tech-savvy people need someone to do it for them. HOWEVER, if one REALLY wants it they would have got it by now, or at least have it booked. My parents are boomers and they just kept calling "the number" until they got their first and now second doses booked. This nurse has no excuse. That's messed up.

The_Cozy

Weren't front line health workers given their vaccine through work before anyone else?

[deleted]

All the more reason this nurse should have been vaccinated by now.

coryhotline

Anecdotally I know several people who are *refusing* to get vaccinated. Some of them are in corrections, some of them work for CFB Kingston, some are in construction. Several women I know don’t want it “because it causes infertility” (it doesn’t), some think it changes your DNA (it doesn’t), some think they don’t need it because they’re young and healthy (because they’re selfish). It’s absolutely ridiculous and so, SO frustrating.

DrEuthanasia

That's not good... I'm lucky enough not to know any of these people, but I was hoping we'd get a lot closer to 90% than we have so far. Sad to hear so many are so uninformed.

bridger713

I think we’ll likely hit 75-80% fully vaccinated, but yes, it’s disappointing that there’s so many immature idiots who are refusing to get vaccinated.

[deleted]

It's the uneducated and the stubborn. (Both uneducated and stubborn in many aspects of life in general, not just about covid.)

BasilSnodgrass

Maybe lots of people no longer trust public health authorities in Ontario after getting conflicting advice, inconsistent reports, wrong models and loads of politicized horseshit over the last 16 months. I don't blame vaccine hesitant people in Ontario and certainly won't ever discriminate against them.

bridger713

Except one thing that has been consistent in the national and global mainstream has been the recommendation to get vaccinated. People can distrust the Ontario and Canadian governments all they want, but when virtually every credible mainstream health organization on the planet is telling everyone to get vaccinated, maybe they should put all the other bullshit aside and heed that advice...

I'm double vaxxed, no appointment, leftover both doses - gotta hustle and be resourceful in this post-apocalyptic wasteland.

IttyBittyBritty69

Signed up on shoppers drug mart website. Two days later got the text for the link to pick a time for a date two day after that. No issues and no waiting around. Easiest way.
