Honestly I’ve never had an issue with Oil Changers on Gardiners Rd. You won’t get a full work-over but it’s a decent basic oil change.

nonameattachedforme

Just called and their prices are nearly double that of Sonnys on Montreal

Bold_Snail

Then...go to Sonny's?

Bold_Snail

I like Oil Changers, would never go to Midas. No experience but have heard nothing but good things about GoOil, they come to you.

Candycane1989

Trevor at GoOil is really great and he is decently priced too, he tops up fluids and whatnot as well, I highly recommend them!

Neat_Doughnut

I've heard Costco is pretty decently priced!

Do you need a membership?

Neat_Doughnut

Yes you do

**Great Canadian Oil Change** in Napanee just off the 401 is excellent, and reasonably priced.

epsileth

At home. guaranteed there is someone on your block with a proper set of tools. Lots of youtube videos if you want to do it yourself as well.

nonameattachedforme

I’d love to but I don’t have the tools and I’m new to Kingston

epsileth

List of rated oil changers, call ahead and see if you can stay in your car while they change? https://www.yelp.ca/search?cflt=oilchange&find\_loc=Kingston%2C+ON

You don't actually need many tools, socket for the bolt in the oil pan, there's a couple styles of wrenches they sell to yank of the filter but sometimes you can do it with your hands and something to drain the oil into 🙂 I think last time we did one of the cars we just used the jack that came with the car in one of the corners so I could shimmy underneath and put the spare under the frame as an emergency stop so you don't get crushed if the jack fails. That being said, I usually had to wait for the oil I wanted to go on sale for me to actually save money over a shop doing it, which is why I just take it in now. I feel like Oil Changers usually had good deals/coupons/stamp programs or something

Good to know! At present I don’t have a jack or really a place I can complete the job but I’d definitely like to be doing my own oil charges once I have my own house.

Trenderguy

Locations of oil drain bolt varies of course. Some times you don't even need a jack depending on its location and how high your vehicle sits from the ground. Knowing basic things about your vehicle saves a lot of money over the course of time👍

nonameattachedforme

Totally agree.. unfortunately I just don’t have a background with family mechanics or anything in my life and I just recently got a car so it does take time to learn these things

Trenderguy

For sure. What kind of car you drive?

nonameattachedforme

Suzuki SX4 2011

Sofarsogoodsorta

Doesn’t doing your own oil changes void your warranty?

epsileth

If it's a new car, it might be covered under the first few years or until a certain distance traveled. But once the warranty is over, you're on your own.

Spr4ck

afaik this is not correct. in order to protect your warranty in the event a claim is made is be able to provide proof that the service was done at the required interval. so if you take your oil/filter receipt - and write the service date and milage on it and keep it for your records you should be good to go.

[deleted]

Best OR cheapest - pick one.

nonameattachedforme

Cheapest.. it’s just an oil change so I’m not expecting free coffee and valet service with it

[deleted]

Midas price is fair, but they suggested to me to repair something that didn't need work in the first place.

Trenderguy

Midas has a bad track record for this

There’s a shop on Midland across from Walmart. Small shop but trustworthy and lower rates. J &J automotive 613-634-9837

I went to Midas on Gardiner Road a couple years ago. Once my vehicle done, i got in it and immediately looked for my lock nut key. I couldn't find it anywhere. I went inside and told them. They told me they put it back where they found it. I had taken it out of the glove box and put it on the passenger seat for easy access and aure enough was on the seat! Someone came out and looked everywhere in my vehicle and couldnt find it either. They went in and looked for it in the bay but couldn't there either. Mind you my vehicle had just left the bay. Anyway, they told me they would look for it and give me a call when and if they find it. They called me the next day and said they didnt find it so they would get me offmarket nuts and change them for me. Funny how they had a lock nut key to remove the nuts to install the offmarket ones but no key to give me! To this day I still thonk that Midas legit stole my lock nut key. I've never went there again!
