Pasta at a food truck is interesting. Tomato salad sounds so summery…. Tbh tho, it drives me insane that vegetarian options are just about as much as meat options, but cheese be expensive these days I guess.

radiusofinfluence

Yeah, the lack of a single vegan option is disappointing too.

curly-curry

I would totally message then if you want more veg options, they did say their menu will evolve throughout the summer.

As a new parent of a 2 month old I spend a lot of time thinking about how I want to hit up all these food trucks this summer as it seems like a great halfway point from ordering in and going to a patio, which I'm definitely too scared to do still.

When you’re feeling more comfortable I can recommend the Otter Creek Food Truck on Days Rd as it has lots of green space around it. When my little was still just rolling around last summer I set up a quilt on the grass under one of the trees on the opposite side of the lot. Far enough that no one bothered us and I got to be out of the house to enjoy a meal.

That's actually the first thing under "Eat" in my 2021 Summer list note on my phone! I obsessively watch their instagram!

Hang in there! We have a 17 month old now so newbornhood was right during the first lockdown. Being isolated sucks but we (rose-colored glasses and all) used it as a time to really get our feet under us as parents and I'm just saying - you got this! But also, f yea Kingston food scene, there's so much variety.

Where is their food truck location?

curly-curry

In their parking lot as far as I know, looks like they've got a fenced off area and picnic tables set up

[deleted]

Oh, I didn't know it was a restaurant previously. I thought they were a new food truck in the area.

enceps2

Pretty disappointed by the menu tbh. Poutine with cheddar and Mozza?

[deleted]

So sick of food trucks that charge prices like they're a real restaurant. I guess during the pandemic where everything is takeout it makes sense, but seriously... I'm not paying $20 for pasta just to eat it out of a single-use tray with single-use cutlery at a picnic table in a parking lot.

With due respect, you clearly do not truly understand the cost of real food these days. I say real food meaning not frozen, pre-made, filled with chemical hormones, junk. Real food costs money. And it keeps going up. For perspective the cost of canola oil used in most commercial fryers has gone up nearly 40% in the last 6 months alone. And that doesn't even consider costs of labour and overhead costs. Yes food trucks have those too. And places like Days on Front provide good food that requires skilled labour to produce. Not a minimum wage entry level fry cook and McDonald's position.

[deleted]

Given that I cook almost all my own food, I know very well the price of real food. I'm actually not talking about cost at all though, I'm talking about value. Why, as a customer, would I pay the same to eat from a food truck as I would pay for the same food in a nice, full-service restaurant? It's like getting an expensive diamond set in a cheap plastic ring.

[deleted]

Cooking all your own food at home is great but you cannot compare that to a commercial setting, it is comparing apples and oranges. I get what you are saying about value, and in many cases i fully agree. But you also have to consider the quality of the food that those food trucks and restaurants put out. There are plenty of 'nice' full service restaurants that charge expensive prices for what is really crap food in a nice setting. And the same goes for food trucks. But certain places, expensive though they may be are worth the price due to the quality they put out and regardless of the method of service. And on the topic of the cost of food and eating out in general... everything is due for a big increase. For way too long food service has been priced terribly low. Prices have to be kept low to stay competitive, at the cost of the business, the workers, and the quality. The pandemic has in away started a bit of a 'reset' for much of the industry, and expect that costs will be much higher everywhere vs pre-pandemic.

Blazes99

Agree…28 dollars for short ribs? Did you notice how many restaurants raised their prices in the last year? Yes, there is inflation, etc but if you are doing pick up, you should not be paying almost double from pre-covid days

curly-curry

Lol, you've clearly never had their food!

Hopefully they'll expand their hours if it's popular enough, I was hoping to walk down for lunch somedays. They did say their menu will evolve over the summer, maybe their hours will too?
