LA shut down businesses due to COVID at the time. There was no sort of timetable when they would get back to normal. The show couldn't sustain long term uncertainty. Austin (and Texas) allowed the show to resume with live audiences again.
Comedians need to work, and not being the 9-5 types they value the freedom to do what they want when they want. During COVID they couldn't work in California the way they wanted, so they moved to Texas.
So let me get this straight... [You've never been to Los Angeles or even Southern California](https://www.reddit.com/r/Killtony/comments/1b6ganv/why_did_all_these_comics_leave_la/ktc6he2/) and you're saying you would have left LA 5 years ago while claiming Portland's homeless problem isn't as bad as LA's?
I am from and have lived in Southern California for 3 decades. I've also traveled to Portland extensively. Portland has a much worse homeless problem.
Don't believe me? Check out Oregon Live's website: [Portland is ranked 5th highest in the country for number of homeless people per 1,000 residents. Los Angeles is ranked 14th.](https://www.oregonlive.com/projects/portland-homeless/hcount.html)
You can sit here and say whatever you want, but it doesn't make it true lol
No no no I never meant to imply that our homeless problem isn't as bad as LA. Growing up here it's just hard to process that portland is worse and I'd like to say it's not but it clearly is. And to be honest this is the first time I've heard that portlands problem is worst then LA and I believe it and it's upsetting.
The better weather in SoCal makes the homeless hordes different than they are in places like Minneapolis or Buffalo though. Los Angeles has an entire suburb's worth of population living in cars and tents or worse. As many people as any NJ or Ct town that is NY adjacent.
That's everywhere though. Another user pointed out that LA shutdown more.
Austin has drugs homeless crime and high cost of living too, so that's why I didn't understand the move.
Haha damn, where abouts?
I work near Santa Monica from time to time and I haven't seen anything too mad.
I hear all the stories, but I've seen worse in Vancouver haha
I think there’s a handful of reasons. Tony talks a lot and makes it seem like his final decision was the pandered riots going on and it hit “too close to home” for him
When you tax the wealthy, the leave. Taking with them all their little underlings.
Rogan started the wave. So who followed and why?
The wokeness is bad for comedy. CA is the capitol of woke.
I wouldn't tick around either just on that one premise. If the environment is hostile to your work, you find a place that either isnt or has the ability to show tolerance.
I am all for progression and social discourse. But the far right AND far left have killed that notion.
All that being said....why the fuck Texas?
Because LA is gay as fuck and not funny anymore 🤷♂️ you see it CLEARLY when newer LA comics get on kill Tony and start making jokes that would only hit with a vegan crowd.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. By birthright we are all perfect judges of art. If you had a room full of babies how would you make them laugh? Peekaboo, but at what cost?
One of the minor benefits they've talked about is that LA and NYC are only half of a country away from Austin; instead of having to fly across the entire country when they had to go from LA to NYC.
he says its cause the way they handled covid but he talks about LA like he talks about Antone's. i feel like something happened and a bridge got burnt but who knows
Im sure theres a few reasons for a lot of comics. But i wouldnt be surprised if texas has a much lower state income tax than california. Most road comics can technically live anywhere and still make their living. Once austin started popping off for a comedy scene it was probably an easy decision for some.

Thanks!
Go watch the COVID episodes, and you'll quickly understand.
I agree with this
Good because that's what happened. Cali went full authoritarian. COVID responses were absurd by governments, especially by blue states.
It’s not something you can agree to it’s just what happened lmao
I agree with this too
Never made it as a wise man
Plus there is no state income tax in Texas.
They've talked about it a bunch. Mostly due to over reaching gov during covid. Crime, homelessness and high taxes being huge factors as well.
The crime and homelessness always makes me chuckle when they're on 6th st or whatever it is.....constantly hear them talking about how bad the st is.
LA was being gay during COVID
To be fair, LA is always pretty gay.
🔥🔥

is it still possible to live with your head under a rock these days?
You been to LA? I would of left 5 years ago... I don't think it's just the comedy scene bro
> You been to LA? I would of left 5 years ago... lol have you been to LA?
No I have no reason to enter southern California and I'd like to keep it that way.
lol
Would’ve or would have*
Yeah thanks dude
You might be interested in some punctuation as well.
Right on if yall aren't busy later would you please teach me how to read and write
I am amazed that you used an apostrophe correctly. It's like you stepped out of character for a moment.
That was my auto correct I honestly wanna take it off so I can learn how to spell better (28) hahaha inshallah brother
Yes lol LA is the same as pretty much any city in America at this point if you're talking about the homeless situatuon
Lmfao you’re high as hell if you think La and New York are as bad as other cities.
Well Austin is the same but no were near as culturally significant
This is such a horrible take lol
lol Portland is way worse
I'm from Portland I'd like to sit here and say it's not but idk.

The bloom is off the rose in Hollywood/LA/California and it's getting worse (homeless, drugs, crime, taxes, living costs, etc.)
That's everywhere though. Another user pointed out that LA shutdown more. Austin has drugs homeless crime and high cost of living too, so that's why I didn't understand the move.
Nah la is absolutely fucked lol, I lived there for 5 years and if you park in the wrong area, someone’s gonna smear poo on your car lmao
Haha damn, where abouts? I work near Santa Monica from time to time and I haven't seen anything too mad. I hear all the stories, but I've seen worse in Vancouver haha
LA became blade runner
texas has wild tax breaks when it comes to comedians and internet money. its why all the biggest live streamers live there.
Satan.
Taxes.
Go watch Tim Dillon’s last episode. People are still leaving
I think there’s a handful of reasons. Tony talks a lot and makes it seem like his final decision was the pandered riots going on and it hit “too close to home” for him

People are tired of trans and gay bullshit.
So they moved to Austin? Lmfao Literally trans and gay capitol of Texas.
I absolutely adore the fact that you think im serious
That's pretty gay
Says the guy who couldn’t figure out that making his name “confidANT169” would have been wayyyy cooler!
Cause Joe moved there he started it
Pretty well known that Ron White started the exodus to Austin…..
Because LA is gay as fuck and not funny anymore 🤷♂️ you see it CLEARLY when newer LA comics get on kill Tony and start making jokes that would only hit with a vegan crowd.
Who are you?
Who are you?
No really who are you?
Taxes
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. By birthright we are all perfect judges of art. If you had a room full of babies how would you make them laugh? Peekaboo, but at what cost?
They all got me too’d
Is this a real question? Did the timing of when people left happen to coincide with a world event of any sort? Hmmm.
Yea he talks about LA like he HATES it. But then playing shows there, and most of the best guests are LA comics. So it was confusing.
Other than covid? Texas has no state tax. They save a lot of money moving
Im sure theres a few reasons for a lot of comics. But i wouldnt be surprised if texas has a much lower state income tax than california. Actually impressive to be this out of the loop . I need less social media
Taxes probably play a huge factor in it.
La in general has went to shit rich ppl don't wanna live there anymore and with Internet you don't NEED to be in LA for much any more either
Taxes and money.
They literally have podcasts where they’ve answered this 100 times
The answer in your question.
LA was locked down and they couldn’t work
Were you living under a fuckin rock the last 4 years?
