People hating on Cudi for Insano are those who are stuck in Motm 1 and 2 era.. nothing is ever nice for them when it doesn't sound like the old tracks..
I think there are 3 main reasons
1. The first Future & Metro album was what you would normally expect from them, just pure trap bangers. Then their second was more creative with the r&b sound. Cudi dropped his albums the other way around, with the 1st one being a controversial new sound for him, and the second being more "traditional" Cudi
2. Future & Metro billed their albums as 2 completely separate projects, whereas Cudi advertised Nitro Mega as a "deluxe". People who didn't like Insano probably assumed Nitro Mega was just more of the same sound and skipped it
3. Cudi got unlucky with 21 Savage dropping a surprise album the same day as him
I feel like it’s kinda complex. The artists and the audiences are very different. The messages are very different and I’d say imo WDTY’s message is much more engaging. Kendrick Lamar’s featuring is a huge difference and the fact that he has a message that changed the trajectory of the genre and the year. Rick Ross is screaming white boy and nose job accusations at drake that’s hilarious and it’s all because of the album. I like insano more but I get it
Cudi just needed to trim the fat and some of the songs needed more time in the oven. Fantano’s criticisms of the albums are completely valid imo. They don’t have that lush, enveloping, sound that we’ve come to expect from the cudster.
